10 YEARS OF - Achievement For All
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the story of Achievement for All 3As Ltd., which began in February 2011 with an absolute
commitment to improving outcomes for all vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people. At the start I
was joined by two volunteers, Nicola Laverton (Head of HR), Cherry White (Governance and Operations),and our
Chair for 9 of the 10 years, Brian Lamb OBE. We grew into a national charity employing over 200 fantastic leaders
and experts
Since 2011, AfA has reached over 5 million leaders, teachers, parents, carers, children and young people in 15
countries. AfA has an amazing breadth of delivery embracing 2 -24 year olds, special educational needs and
disability, leadership, wellbeing, teaching and learning, parent and carer engagement, and wider opportunities.
The impact and reach of our work has been achieved through the skill and professionalism of our magnificent
coach teams, leadership and central staff, and the support of our trustees, partner organisations, international
governments, funders, and the Department for Education who provided the initial grants that enabled us to begin
our journey.
My thanks to you all,
Sonia

AFA NEWS IN 2013

28th May 2013 Charity celebrates 2nd Anniversary through the impact of its work with more than 450,000
children
Education charity Achievement for All 3As is celebrating its second anniversary with further evidence of the success of
its work in over 1500 schools across England.
The charity, established in May 2011, has grown from a makeshift office in a dining room in Newbury, to a staff of
more than 355 education professionals and 1500 school-based champions. Together they are committed to
improving progress in reading, writing and maths for more than 85,000 vulnerable and disadvantaged children,
including those identified with special educational needs. A further 450,000 children are benefitting from the positive
impact of this work in their schools.
An independent review of data from the past year demonstrates a significant impact on these children. Many,
including those with special educational needs, are making as good or better progress than the national expected
levels of progress for ALL children across all three subjects. Wider outcomes such as behaviour and attendance are
also shown to improve.
AFA NEWS IN 2013

Sonia Blandford, founder and CEO of Achievement for All 3As said
‘It’s been a privilege to be part of the Achievement for All 3As journey. The impact on the children and the schools
involved has been profound. Many of the children involved are making faster progress in reading, writing and maths
than their counterparts in other schools. Schools see such success from these children, who have previously
struggled, that many are rolling out the programme across their whole school population.’
Achievement for All 3As is now expanding its work, focusing on other opportunities to improve the lives of vulnerable
and disadvantaged children and young people, through developing partnerships across the sector in other settings
such as Early Years and abroad including in the United States.
Brian Lamb OBE, Chair of Achievement for All 3As
‘The difference that Achievement for All 3As has made in just two years is outstanding. Throughout the country
parents and children are seeing for themselves the positive impact on their lives and ultimately their children’s future
chances.’
“The joy of coaching for me has always come from helping
someone to answer EM Forster's question: How do I know
what I think until I see what I say?

This has led to school colleagues developing clearer and
sharper perspectives of issues and, consequently actions
that are tailor made for their school communities. In turn,
they have experienced the same when coaching parents in
                  and through Structured Conversations.“

9 October 2015 Achievement for All impacts on over 2-millon people
National education charity Achievement for All has released a
report revealing its impact on 2,303,175 people including pupils, teachers
and parents alike, since the charity began four years ago.
The charity, which offers support programmes to schools and settings to help
them improve outcomes for the lowest achieving 20 per cent, has directly
helped 172,111 children and young people make the academic progress they
should.
It has supported nearly 70,000 teachers and helped over 250,000 parents and
carers engage better with their children’s learning and with their education
professionals. Others it has helped include school leaders, wider
professionals, and pupils at Achievement for All schools who were not in a
target group, but still benefitted from the programme.
The report reveals that Key Stage 2 pupils studying at Achievement for All
schools achieve an average point score (APS) which is 31 per cent higher than
that of their counterparts. For Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils this increases to a
staggering 41 per cent.

an Achievement for All primary school in Wantage.

Recently announced as ambassador for education charity Achievement for All, David visited Stockham Primary School

David said: “It has been great to see first-hand how the charity works and to see the benefit it can have to the children
as well as additional support for the teachers. The school was absolutely full of life and there was such happy

"We have found that Achievement for All has really helped us to bring a
focus to our Pupil Premium strategy.
The support tools that are in place for teachers to understand and plan
for impactful learning for disadvantaged students have really enriched
and strengthened our breadth of approach and understanding of
strategies that we can employ. The emphasis placed on
communication was so important just at the point that we had to go
                                             into lockdown.”

AFA IN THE FUTURE?
I am a coach for AfA , but I also a tutor, assess and facilitate on the NPQs, as well as being a SEND Advisor for …). For
those non-AfA roles, I come across reference for AfA all the time. AfA is mentioned explicitly in the Code of Practice, in
the Whole School SEND materials I work with for the LA and is a big part of the module Teaching and Curriculum
Excellence in the NPQs.
It makes my jobs easier to have AfA as a golden thread through all my work, it makes sense and is hugely visible for
me. I just thought you should know this and hopefully a little further reminder of the enduring impact AfA has had
over the recent years. This all demonstrates that these principles have a significant place in teaching the next
generation of leaders and teachers - thank you! Louise McGinty
It is a privilege as an Achievement Coach to watch and support a school community as it develops personalised
learning and developmental experiences for disadvantaged learners and their families.
It's an even greater privilege to celebrate their success with the Quality Mark, which confirms that this work has had
a positive impact on vulnerable learners' outcomes and opportunities and on the school community as a whole. Bob
Basley
"COVID-19 has directed us towards a
‘new normal’ when planning how
schools can prepare a child for the
future: the emphasis is on personal
development, communication skills,
sell-efficacy, self-regulation. These
aspects are central to the
Achievement for All Core Strength
model that underpins our wellbeing
programmes which are designed to
support all children as they
experience unprecedented challenges
in their lives."
