RULES: General Terms and Conditions

The fourteenth Lyon International Chamber Music Competition (CIMCL) is for trio piano, violin,
cello. It is open to artists of all nationalities born after 10th April 1983.
The competition will award 3 prizes (1st, 2nd and 3rd), as well as a few special prizes.
The competition will take place in Lyon, France, from Tuesday 10th to Sunday 15th April 2018.

The composition of the jury may change if one of the members is unable to attend.

APPLICATIONS

The closing date for applications is postponed to January 15th 2018.
Candidates must submit the following documents:

      Duly completed application form in a excel compatible format (.xlsx)
      Duly completed Biography and repertoire form, in a word compatible format (.doc)
      A recent photograph of the trio (black and white, 300 dpi, size min. 10 cm x 15 cm)
      Copy (100 dpi, jpg or pdf file) of identity card or passport of each musician
      Application fee of 180 € (non-refundable if the trio withdraws from the competition, or if
       the duo is not pre-selected)
      An internet link to the video recording of the compulsory piece for the pre-qualifying round
       (youtube, dropbox, etc.)

The application fee must be paid by international money order, payable to the CIMCL.

Any bank costs will be charged to the candidates. Please, specify the name of the trio when you
make the bank transfer for easier identification.

ADMISSION

The organisers of the competition will pre-select candidates.
Candidates must send an un-cut live video recording of :

Ludwig van Beethoven : Geister Trio in D-major op.70 n°1, 1st movement, without repeat sign.

Video streaming to be sent by internet link : Youtube, Vimeo, Dropbox, etc.
Artists must be filmed with an immobile camera. The video should display the artists’ names, and
the date and place of the recording

Only completed dossiers will be accepted. Candidates will be informed by e-mail of their
admittance by the 9th February, 2018.

TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION

Candidates must pay for their travel and accommodation costs.
Accommodation in rooms is offered in limited number. Attribution will prioritize geographic distance
between interested candidates. Note that in this case, the artists could be asked to play in private
for their hosts.

REGISTRATION

Candidates must register and present ID at the competition secretariat on Monday 9th April,
2018, between 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Lots will be drawn at 4pm to determine the order of
play.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsal rooms will be available for candidates from 11 a.m. on Monday 9th April and throughout
the period of the competition. The competition organizers will provide a schedule to ensure equal
use of rehearsal rooms.

COMPETITION PROCEDURE

The competition venue will be disclosed to candidates when participation is confirmed.
All rounds will be open to the public. The jury reserves the right to interrupt the contestants’
performance or to select some movements from the pieces chosen. The order of the selected
pieces is left to the discretion of the candidates.

The Franck Krawczyk score, set piece for the semi-final, will be edited by Plein Jour
((http://pleinjour.com/) and available for purchase from February 2018. Scores can be ordered on
www.acappella.eu (contact@acappella.eu).

Musical rounds may be recorded (audio and video) for broadcast (live or not) on Université Lumière
Lyon 2, NoMadMusic, France Musique websites.

The final will take place in two different times. One step for Trio recital, one step with the
orchestra.

First compulsory step
Friday 13 th – Final in Trio
Free recital program of maximal 60 minutes, including a Trio of Joseph Haydn

Second compulsory step
Samedi 14 th – Final with orchestra
Ludwig van Beethoven : Triple concerto in C major op.56
With Lyon Opera Orchestra, conducted by Bernhard Kontarsky. Rehearsal with the orchestra on
Saturday 14th, in the morning.

PRIZES/AWARDS

1st prize awarded by City of Lyon : 12.000 euros
2nd prize awarded by Caisse des Dépôts : 6.000 euros
3rd prize awarded by Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes : 4.000 euros

To be confirmed :
Bullukian Foundation Prize : vidéo and career development (value 5.000 euros)
Best interpretation Sacem prize for Krawczyk work : 2.000 euros
Public award : 1.000 euros
Websurfers prize : 1.000 euros

Candidates will be informed of the details of those different awards with their admittance. The
awards list may be modified by the organisers before the beginning of the competition. The
prizes/awards will be attributed by the jury, except for the Public Award which will be attributed by
the public by individual ballot during the finals and the Websurfers award which will be attributed
by websurfers. The prizes/awards must be shared equally between the members of the trio.

Several professional engagements may be proposed to the winners. In particular the winners
agree to honour those engagements. Dates will be given with the admittance.

AWARDS CEREMONY AND CONCERT

The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 15th April 2018 at 5:00 pm at the Opéra de Lyon.
Award winners must be present to receive their prizes and must play freely an excerpt from their
competition program, as approved by the organisers of the concert.
The trio 1st prize of the competition will play an extract of the Triple concerto of Beethoven with
the Lyon city Opera Orchestra. The concert will be recorded by France Musique for broadcast in
May/June 2018 (Gaëlle Le Gallic programme).
The winners agree to offer a recital to CIMCL during the year following the competition.
Accommodation and travel expenses will be paid for by CIMCL.

DELIBERATION

The jury will be made up of 7 or more personalities from the music world, selected by the
competition management. The president of the jury will be nominated by the competition
management or elected by the members of the jury. The jury will deliberate at the end of each
round. The decisions of the jury are final.

RECORDINGS AND BROADCASTS

Competition organisers reserve the right to record all or part of the competition using photographic
or video technology, for advertising, archives, television, internet or radio broadcasting in
accordance with the rights of French musicians (article L 212-3, Intellectual Property Code).

OBLIGATIONS

Registration for the competition implies that candidates agree with and accept all of the articles of
these rules.
The French version of these rules takes precedence.
Disputes will be settled by the authorities in Lyon.
