We take a look at a popular taproom each week
The Hiding Place, 15 High Street, Melksham SN12 6JY
The West Wiltshire town of Melksham (population 19,357) sits on the River Avon, 6 miles south of Chippenham in a relatively sparsely
populated area of the South of England. It a pleasant enough town, with a small High Street, where you would expect to find a few
traditional pubs, perhaps serving Arkell’s Ales, which tends to dominate the pub landscape in Wiltshire.
It is most definitely not the sort of place you would expect to find a terrific little
Taproom like The Hiding Place, literally sandwiched between two estate agents!
I spent a very pleasant hour in there a couple of weeks ago, sampling my way around
the carefully curated and well-presented selection of six keg and three cask beers,
expertly served by Jeff behind the bar.
Although I was there very early in the evening, business was brisk, and I understand
from chatting at the bar that the owners have been delighted with the level of business
since they opened in 2019.
In addition to the draft beers, The Hiding Place also has a decent stock of cans from
the usual suspects.
I would love to think that, ten years from now, every small town in the UK will have a
bar just like The Hiding Place (hopefully converted from an estate agent!)
In the meantime, if you are a lover of craft beer and you find yourself in West Wiltshire,
please seek out The Hiding Place. You will be very glad that you did...!

The tours will launch in September 2020 with a Boston Tour, and a Brooklyn Tour in October 2020. We will seek a UK brewery partner for both tours, ideally hosted in person by the owner or head brewer. The Boston Tour will be an amazing four-night tour of the New England craft beer scene, including tutored tasting at some of the World's leading craft breweries. The itinerary will include full evenings at both Trillium and Tree House, two of the top 5 Breweries in the World, according to Ratebeer. The New England scene is so much more than just the big-name destinations. Our Tour will also take you to several other great Breweries, where you will be guaranteed the warmest of welcomes, as we taste our way through the beer menus. The Brooklyn Tour will be an awesome introduction to this hot-bed or craft beer, including full evenings at the legendary Other Half and Finback Brewery Taprooms. The Brooklyn Tour will also allow plenty of time to explore the sights and sounds of Manhattan. Alternately, if Wall St and the Empire State Building aren't really your thing, there are so many amazing Taprooms within a very dense area in Brooklyn, that you could visit 3 or 4 each day, and really immerse yourself in this amazing scene! However you choose to play it, we will be on hand to make sure you get the most from the trip. Both packages will include scheduled direct flights from the UK to the USA, and door-2-door transport whilst in the USA.
