The Gledhill Shaw Registration website link will only be available until registration close date/time of Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.

You are required to book one (1) of the following dates only: Day 1 Thursday, November 15, 2018 Day 2 Friday, November 16, 2018 Day 3 Saturday, November 17, 2018 Booking is on a “First come, first served” basis. Once a session is fully booked you will not be able to choose the date. Testing Fee and Payment Method: A non-refundable testing fee of $145.00 (HST included) is to be paid at the time of on- line Registration. PayPal Account or a major credit card will be the only acceptable form of payment.

If you do not meet the qualifications of the position and have been contacted by the City of Hamilton informing you that you are not eligible for testing but proceed with registration with Gledhill Shaw, your registration will be cancelled and you will be charged a fee.

Confirmation of Testing: Within twenty-four (24) hours of registering, candidates will receive two separate emails, one from Gledhill Shaw and one from PayPal. The email from Gledhill Shaw will include confirmation date of test registration, providing your Personal ID Number, items to bring to the test, and time and location of testing. The second email is from PayPal confirming your payment.

Candidates are required to bring a copy of the email confirmation to the testing. If candidates do not receive a confirmation email after twenty-four (24) hours please email Gledhill Shaw at crowan@gledhill-shawtesting.com.

City of Hamilton, Career Full-Time Probationary Firefighter 2019/2020 Recruitments Information Guide Page 3 of 6 3.0 OS AND CPS TESTING Hamilton Fire Department will be employing two (2) mandatory tests as part of the process. One test is in the morning and one test is in the afternoon. Both tests must be written on the same day. The OS (Occupational Screening) Firefighting Test is a readiness assessment based on functional characteristics that are essential for effective firefighter trainees.

The CPS (Cooperative Personal Services) Entry Firefighter Test is a cognitive test of certain knowledge, skills and aptitudes necessary to succeed as a firefighter in today’s environment.

• Registration for the OS test will begin at 8:00 a.m. • The first test is the OS test with a duration of two (2) hours. • Followed by a break. You will need to back to the test facility by 12:30 p.m. to register for the CPS test. • The second test is the CPS test with a duration of two (2) hours. In order to be successful in each test, you will need to meet the following criteria: • OS Test - must meet/pass all required areas • CPS Test - must achieve a minimum of at least eight-five percent (85%) Meeting the requirements stated above does not guarantee an interview. Photo Identification (ID): Photo ID is required at time of testing and throughout the process (one of the following): • Driver’s Licence • Military ID • Passport • Health Card What to Bring to the OS and CPS Test: You must bring the following with you to the testing: • Test Confirmation Email (refer to Section 2.0) • Two (2) H or HB pencils and a good eraser • One of the above Photo ID • If you would like to bring water please do so as it will not be provided Testing Location, Dates/Times: Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmen’s, 1 Summers Lane, Hamilton, ON, L8P 4Y2 Wentworth A, B and C Rooms.

4.0 INTERVIEW PROCESS (1st and 2nd Interviews) Interviews will be taking place as required. If you are selected for an interview you will be contacted via email. Required Documents to be Provided at the Interview: The City of Hamilton Reference Consent Form will be provided to you when you are contacted for an interview. You will be required to bring the completed Reference Consent Form to the interview listing three (3) references. References must be employment related in a reporting capacity. Original and one (1) copy of each of the following documents are required at the interview: • High School Diploma or approved equivalent as established by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

• Basic rescuer or level "C" CPR certificate (minimum) must be valid at time of application and remain valid throughout the process until time of hire. • Standard First Aid certificate (minimum) must be valid at time of application and remain valid throughout the process until time of hire. Canadian Red Cross, Canadian St. John's Ambulance or WSIB approved trainers is acceptable. • If a certificate for either CPR or First Aid is not available a letter on company or department letterhead outlining the recognized training stating the level and the date completed, may be accepted.

• Valid Class “G” Driver’s Licence with 0 demerit points and satisfactory to the City of Hamilton at time of application and must be maintained throughout the entire process.

If you move to the next steps then a valid Class “DZ” licence with 0 demerit points and satisfactory to the City of Hamilton is required on or before July 1, 2019 for the first hiring intake. If the above information is not provided at the interview, you will be disqualified from the process and we will not proceed with the interview.

This will be done based on the number of vacancies. To be eligible to continue further in the process the following conditions must be satisfied: • Police Vulnerable Sector Check (satisfactory to the City of Hamilton) • Valid Fitness York Physical Evaluation • Medical (administered by our Physician) • Licence and Driver’s Abstract Check o Conducted by the City of Hamilton o Must have a valid Class “DZ” Licence on or before July 1, 2019, for the first intake with 0 demerit points and satisfactory to the City of Hamilton • Reference Checks 6.0 PHYSICAL FITNESS TESTING (YORK) Only those candidates who are moving forward in the process will be required to obtain a Fitness York Physical at their own expense.

Physical fitness testing will be conducted at York University as required.

Please note we only accept Fitness York Physical evaluations. 7.0 MEDICALS Medicals will be held as required. You will be contacted by the City of Hamilton with a date and time for your third-party medical assessment. The cost of the medical assessment is covered by the City of Hamilton. The required medical documents will be provided to you once your appointment has been confirmed. 8.0 POLICE VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECK You will be required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense when requested by the City of Hamilton. To obtain your Police Vulnerable Sector Check you must go to the police service that services the Municipality in which you permanently reside.

In order for your application to be considered, you must not have a criminal conviction for which a pardon has not been granted at the time of application. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check must be satisfactory to the City of Hamilton. 9.0 EMPLOYMENT START DATE As required for our 2019/2020 hiring.
