They save for unforeseen needs. They protect and
conserve natural resources. They carefully use time
and property.
2019 CAMP CARD SALE
A Scout is Thrifty… They earn their own way to Summer Camp!
The Palmetto Council is excited to announce the 2019 Camp Card program! This initiative is designed to help
Scouts earn the funds they need to pay their own way to a Summer Camp experience. The commission paid
on cards sold is 50% or $5 for each $10 card sold. The 2019 Camp Card has been developed with higher
value offers to maximize your Scouts’ potential earnings. We have three card versions: Catawba District
(Chester & Lancaster counties), Daniel Morgan District (Cherokee, Spartanburg and Union counties), and York
District (York county). Cards ordered will be distributed at the January District Roundtable/Banquet and the
sale will run for approximately 8 weeks. Any unsold cards can be returned by the deadline highlighted in the
sale timeline at no cost to your unit.
THE VALUE OF SELLING CAMP CARDS:
• Average Scouts BSA Camp - $300 = 60 Cards
• Average Cub Scout Day Camp - $100 = 20 Cards

2019 TIMELINE
December 13 (Roundtable) Unit card orders due
January 10 (Roundtable/Banquet) Cards distributed to units
February 21 Return deadline for unsold cards (turn-in locations to be set by
district). Units are financially responsible for any
cards kept beyond this date!
March 14 (Roundtable) Sale Ends — Money Due

ORDERS & REORDERS
The council will place an order for camp cards after all units have placed their order on December 13th. If
you need additional cards during the sale, please ask Taylor Thomas.
RETURN POLICY
Unsold camp cards can be returned at no cost to the District on or before February 21st. Units will be
responsible for all cards kept after February 21st.
HOW TO SELL THE CARD
DOOR-TO-DOOR: Take your cards for a trip around the neighborhood. Highlight the great coupons and
that the cards will save them money! Encourage them to buy more than one card because the break off
coupons can only be used one time and more than pay for the card. Let everyone know you are trying to
earn your way to camp.
STORE FRONT SALES: Set up a sales booth and sell Camp Cards on the spot. This can be an effective
approach in the right location at the right time. Focus on multiple locations over the course of the sale. It is
important to always ask permission from the store manager prior to setting up in front of a store. Many
businesses prohibit store front sales, please respect their policies. Also it is important to check with your
district as many have district signup sheets for store fronts that must be signed up for at the district.
Locations to consider include Walmart, Lowe’s, Sam’s, Tractor Supply, grocery stores, etc. Again, make
sure you have permission prior to setting up in front of any stores.
ONLINE: New to the 2019 sale is the ability to sell online! Each unit will
have a link that they can promote online. The council will mail the card
to the customer. We will also have a First Responder donation for
relatives out of town who still wish to support your Scout. Customers will
be able to list a Scout they are supporting. The commission will be taken
off the final invoice for the unit.
SAFETY AND COURTESY
Be sure to review these safety and courtesy tips with your Scouts and parents:
• Always sell with another Scout or with an adult—NEVER alone.
• Never enter someone’s home.
• Never sell after dark.
• Don’t carry large amounts of cash, but do carry change!
• Always walk on the sidewalk and driveways—stay off the grass.
• Be careful of dogs while selling.
• Say THANK YOU even if they don’t buy a card.

SALE TECHNIQUES FOR SCOUTS
Don’t miss the opportunity to use the Camp Card sale to train your Scouts in public speaking, sales and
service. Your Scouts and parents will appreciate the effort and your sales will improve. Camp Card sales may
also qualify for some requirements towards the Salesmanship Merit Badge and other advancement
opportunities.
• Have Scouts role play and practice during the kickoff.
• Find a way to make training fun and reward Scouts who do a good job.
HAVE YOUR SCOUTS PRACTICE THESE SIMPLES STEPS
• Wear your Uniform.
• Smile and say – “Hello, my name is ______________. I’m a Scout with (Pack/Troop /Crew) ______.
• Tell them what you are doing – “I’m trying to raise money so that I can attend Summer Camp this year.”
• Tell them what they can do to help – “I’m selling Camp Cards that will not only help me go to Summer
Camp, but will help YOU save money as well.”
• Point out a couple of the valuable coupons.
• Close the sale, and say, “Thank you!”

CAMP CARD
Ensure your Scout families understand that they are selling character, they are selling a better community, and
they are selling all the benefits of Scouting and the camping activities; NOT just a Camp Card. Emphasize that
every card sold helps a Scout go to camp. The reason our sale will be a success is that people want to support
Scouting as much as they want to buy a camp card.
