Atlas products are researched, designed and produced in Kilmarnock, in the west of
Scotland. We design and manufacture these products because we’ve spent our lives in
the hi-fi and audio-visual industry, and we’re still endlessly enthusiastic about it. Atlas is
first and foremost an engineering company, so in designing our products, we not only
listen very carefully — we test, measure and test again.

IN PURSUIT OF THE PERFECT CABLE
We are driven by the vision of the theoretically “perfect” cable. What would it look like?
Ideally, it would simply consist of a pair of solid, 100% pure metal conductors, suspended in a vacuum of free

The connector is just as important as the wire itself.
These days, most high-quality cables are fitted with impressive-looking connectors — but how they actually
perform with real signals is more important than their cosmetic appearance. The connector must be durable;
it must make a good mechanical connection, both to the matching socket and to the attached wire. It must
match the wire in terms of both impedance and structure. Very few connectors meet all three criteria.
C O N TA C T W I T H T H E S O C K E T
The ideal connection is tight enough to create a “self-cleaning” effect, where a very thin layer of molecules
are scraped off both contact surfaces to remove surface pollution every time the connector is removed and
reinserted. This will leave just pure metal bonded to pure metal. A tight connection must also be ensured for
both parts of the connector, not just the center pin (because the electrical circuit needs both the signal path
and the ground or return path).
CONNECTION WITH THE WIRE
This must also be as homogenous as possible, which is where Atlas’ cold-weld manufacturing comes in. Solder-
based joining creates a major break in the signal path. Using our our own in-house tooling system, the metals
of the connector and the wire are pressure-fused together to form a strong, airtight metal-to-metal contact.
The result is a smooth signal path with no interruptions, and hence no degradation of the signal.
IMPEDANCE OF THE CONNECTOR
This is an oft-overlooked aspect of cable design. In the laboratory, the ultra-accurate measuring instruments
using a 50 ohm connector would use a matching 50 ohm cable. Everything is matched, so that there is almost
no interference. The same is true in the world of broadcasting. Yet in hi-fi, little thought is given to connectors
across manufacturers. Because we design and make our own connectors, we can ensure that the cable and
connectors are well matched as a complete transmission system.
