Building and Planning
The Building and Planning Department provides a wide range of services that pertain to land use and the enforcement of
the Ontario Building Code.
Who needs a building permit?
Permits are required for any significant change to a home or property including:
Ÿ home additions, pools, open decks and porches; new or replacement of solid fuel heating systems, event tents
greater than 642 sq ft. etc. . .
Ÿ Permits are also required to demolish a building or structure.
What projects DO NOT require a building permit?
Ÿ An accessory building with a total floor area of 10 square meters (108 sq. ft.) or less (must comply with zoning)
Ÿ Fences – requirements within the Fence By-law must be met
Ÿ Replacement of windows or doors provided the size does not change
Why should I get a permit?
Permits provide you with the assurance that the municipality has reviewed your plans, and that your project complies
with the Ontario Building Code, local Zoning By-laws and other applicable laws and regulations.
How do I obtain a building permit?
We recommend that you review our Permit Information Package online before visiting our office for a permit. This will
provide you with details on the process and requirements.
