Darebin Community & Kite Festival 2019 was a great success. Community came out to Edwardes Lake in their thousands to enjoy the beautiful sunny day, plus a nice breeze which flew those kite's high in the sky. Families and visitors took in the displays and entertainment which continued throughout the day. Darebin kids of all ages know how to have fun and this event gave them that opportunity to relax, unwind and be with family. 3KND proud to have broadcasted live from this event and engage with community. Page 3 of 16 The Whittlesea Community Festival Whittlesea Community Festival 2019 was held at the Public Gardens in Lalor. Welcome to Country, dance groups, bands and cultural workshops flowed throughout the day with large crowds enjoying the fine weather combined with awesome food; kangaroo stew and barramundi curry with rice filling the air. Indigenous Hip-Hop Projects made some noise that had the crowd clapping followed by the Djirri Djirri dancers who performed with pride and appreciated by the large crowd. Kutcha Edwards finished the day with his style of music which captured those who came along.

Page 5 of 16 Balit Dhumba March 2019 With the State of Victoria entering the second stage of the Treaty process, i.e. election of the First Peoples Assembly of Victoria, the scene is becoming increasingly interesting, if not complex. As 3KND works to keep the community up-to- date with the Treaty process via our Balit Dhumba (“Strong Talk”) programme, the topics and personnel involved are drawing greater attention.

Over the past several weeks, 3KND’s Treaty Correspondent, Charles Pakana, has produced a range of stories that include: ● Exclusive coverage of the Victorian Local Governance Association’s Leading the Agenda Treaty forum.

● On-site coverage of the #NoTreesNoTreaty campaign being conducted by the DjabWurrung People at Ararat, ● Coverage of the Victorian Treaty Advancement Commissioner’s engagement with prisoners at Dhurrungile Prison at Shepparton. ● Exclusive interview with newly appointed Chairman of the Federation of Victorian Traditional Owner Corporations, Mr. Jason Mifsud. Page 6 of 16 Jonzy From Jam Pakt Host of Jam Pakt Jonzy came in to the 3KND studio. Gypsy had a chat with him on air on the Midday Rush.

Jam Pakt is a weekly 1-hour radio show on 3KND played every Friday night at 7pm and replayed on Saturday at 5pm. Jam packed with great music, yarns and special guests, tackling hot topics for Indigenous mob all over Australia. From the city to the bush, from the desert to the sea, if you’re upright and breathing then this show has got something for you! Interview With Hayley Millar-Baker Gunditjmara photographer and artist Hayley Millar-Baker spoke with A.J on the 3KND’s Midday Rush.

Hayley’s talked about her exhibition ‘Cook Book’, which will be showing at the Bundoora Homestead Art Centre. Cook Book explores the merging of traditional Aboriginal cultural practices with Westernised 21st Century knowledges and tools. Page 7 of 16 Interview With Bianca Modesti Interview With The Saba Brothers A.J interviewed the Saba Brothers guitarist and vocalist Raymond on the Middy Rush. The Saba Brothers, Raymond, Steven and Nathan are three brothers who share a passion for music.

Playing music together since 2010, their different talents complement each other and bring them together. New single ‘Smile’ by the Saba Brother is out now. Check out the Saba Brothers website for future gigs in your area. Melbourne’s own singer- songwriter Bianca Modesti had a chat on air with A.J on the Midday Rush on 3KND.

Bianca Modesti new single ‘Race Against Time’ follows on from the success of her debut single ‘Betrayal’, which aside from receiving a lot of love from radio was also a semi- finalist in a prestigious international song writing competition. Thirteen general and station managers including Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) representatives held long talks about industry issues with keynote speakers covering broadcast multiplatform opportunities.

He took part of this year’s Comedy Festival and Deadly Funny Showcase, which was held at the Northcote Town Hall on Saturday March 23rd. Interview With James Morrison The name “James Morrison” is known throughout the world for his sheer brilliance as a jazz musician and an all- round entertainer.

He is constantly on the move, touring everywhere and anywhere fine music has an audience. James spoke with the G-Man on The Big Brekkie Show live on 3KND.

Page 10 of 16 Ged Kearney MP The Team is BACK! Marngrook Footy Show kicked off their first show for 2019 on NITV with the old crew back but with a fresh lineup. Special guest were Tim Kelly from Geelong and Andy Krakour joined the panel. Gilbert McAdam’s year off back in Alice Springs didn’t lose his shine as he fitted right back in with his long-time mate Grant Hansen. The humour, chemistry and game knowledge left the large crowd in awe as Marngrook showed the rest how it should be done.

Page 11 of 16 Interview With Lachlan Grant Splendor Alice Springs musician Lachlan Grant Splendor has recently released his latest single ‘Fathers Second Son’, which follows a whirlwind trek across the globe absorbing musical influences and experiences to embolden his music.

Lachlan appeared on Big Brekkie with the G-Man. The song will feature on his upcoming album ‘The Choice is Yours’, which will feature a collection of introspective and inspirational tracks. Lachlan said he wrote the song when he was 19, and said he wanted to take his listeners on a journey of self-discovery and life lessons he has learned along the way.

Check out Lachlan’s website for shows and music! Sodexo Reconciliation Action Plan ‘Elevate’ Launch Sodexo Reconciliation Action Plan ‘ELEVATE’ was launched at PWC in Southbank. Sodexo vision is about improving the quality of life of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the communities, continuously and sustainably. 3KND were there to hear the powerful and thought-provoking speeches that came from many who shared their stories. MC for the day was John Paul Janke from NITV the Point. A powerful event attended by amazing people.

Page 12 of 16 Deadly Funny Competition 2019 – Victorian Heat Special Report: The Protection Of The Birthing Trees The 2019 Deadly Funny National Competition. Victorian Heat took place at Northcote Town Hall on Saturday 23rd of March in front of a large crowd. Mob came from all over Australia to see talent on stage as 8 Comedians took to the stage to showcase their talent and the audience were not disappointed. Jay Wymarra took out the event which takes him into the grand final on Saturday 6th April at the Forum Melbourne. Those comedians taking part of the competition came from far and wide.

They were: Dioan Drummond, Maryanne Johns, Michael Naawi, Kasey Johnson, Yvette Holt, Suri Saramsa Bin Saad, Dion Williams and Jay Wymarra. 3KND’s Treaty Correspondent Charles Pakana, visited the main camp protecting the Birthing Trees, outside of Ararat. Charles spoke with Zellanach Djabmara about the struggle to protect culturally important trees from being bulldozed in the name of progress. Page 13 of 16 Apunipima Australian Indigenous Basketball All Stars Women’s Team Ricky Baldwin is the Australian Coach of the Apunipima Australian Indigenous Basketball All Stars women’s national side. They are played in an International tournament in Aotearoa (NZ).

They have kept their winning streak rolling in the 2019 International Indigenous & Cultural Tournament with a 82-75 victory over the Ngati Toa (NZ) women’s team. With the win, our Apunipima All Stars women’s team booked themselves a spot in the Gold Medal game, which will be played on Friday 29th of March. Interview With Joe Williams on ‘Stronger Together’ Former NRL Player and Boxer, Joe Williams came on 3KND and spoke with A.J on the Midday Rush.

Joe spoke to A.J about the launch of R U OK’s ‘Stronger Together’ campaign, which targets suicide prevention for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. ‘’Stronger Together’ encourages mob to check in with family and friends who may be struggling with life.
