                                                                                                Matthew Collins gained an appreciation for the complexity within
                                                                                                construction while working in the plumbing industry. ‘I wanted
                                                                                                to learn the fundamentals and entirety of the construction
                                                                                                process from conception to completion of a project,’ he says.
                                                                                                ‘I decided to push myself to the next level and commence
                                                                                                a degree in construction management at Griffith.’ During
                                                                                                his degree, Matthew has found the group work beneficial
                                                                                                in preparing him for industry. ‘I’ve worked in team-based
                                                                                                environments just like I would in real construction projects,’
                                                                                                he says. ‘I’ve found the lecturers and tutorial staff to be
                                                                                                well-rounded industry professionals who are extremely
                                                                                                knowledgeable in their areas of expertise.’ Upon completion

                                                                                            In 2017, Simon Lewis was nominated and became a finalist for
                                                                                            Australian of the Year Victorian Local Hero award for helping to
                                                                                            save more than 500 refugees lives in January 2016. In 2020,
                                                                                            Simon became the first Australian to become a global semi-
                                                                                            finalist for the prestigious Aurora humanitarian prize, having
                                                                                            rescued 1,906 lives over his past missions. ‘At Griffith, I really
                                                                                            got to connect with the world and many cultures while I was

                                                                                                    Borcsa Vass’s skills as a barrister positioned her among the
                                                                                                    finalists in the Emergent Woman Lawyer of the Year category
                                                                                                    at the 2018 Women Lawyer of the Year Awards. The award
                                                                                                    recognises women who have been admitted to legal practice
                                                                                                    for five years or less. ‘Griffith has always been progressive and
                                                                                                    forward-thinking, and my career has certainly been enriched
                                                                                                    as a result of studying at Griffith,’ she says. Admitted to the Bar
                                                                                                    in 2015, Borcsa has established a broad commercial law practice
                                                                                                    in Brisbane representing an array of clients and prosecuting
                                                                                                    various regulatory offences. Borcsa regularly appears in courts
                                                                                                    and tribunals and has appeared unled in the Queensland Court
                                                                                                    of Appeal and in numerous trials and appeals.
