1) Our sale, as is true of nearly all such sales around the country, will go on.
However, much has changed in our personal and business lives since March 1,
2020 … here are all the ways we're adjusting our sale to that.
2) The catalogs were mailed March 17, 2020. DVAuction.com has the catalog and
bull videos online. LostLakeRanch.com has the catalog online and links to DV
Auction. BallyhooPrinting.com has our catalog online and their Ballyhoo Go!
App with many great features.
3) We will have all the cattle at Western Livestock Auction, sorted, and ready to view
all of Sunday, March 29 and Monday morning, March 30.
4) Various COVID-19 precautions will be in place at Western :Livestock Auction,
including how the lunch is served … we will respond to day-to-day changes.
5) There will be four (4) convenient bidding / buying options:
1. In the stands. We want everyone to do what they are comfortable doing.
Anyone with fever and/or cough should not attend (see other options).
2. Online. DV Auction will broadcast the sale live. Go to DVAuction.com to set
up an account and arrange bidding (ideally before March 30). If help is needed

6) SIGHT “UNSEEN” PURCHASE GUARANTEE.
Unseen in quotes given the cattle videos, still photos, and catalog formation
above, as well as having any of us or friends/neighbors could look at the cattle for
you.
We will provide a satisfaction guarantee for cattle purchased in this manner.
When cattle purchased”sight unseen” are delivered, the buyer can inspect the
cattle. If they are not as represented, simply put them back on the trailer.

Dear Cattle Producers:
Please accept this invitation to Harrer’s Lost Lake Ranch, with our partner
Windy Ridge Angus Ranch, 26th Annual “In The Real World Sale”… emphasizing
that cattle must be bred and fed to work in the real world. This is the 84th year
that Harrers have been breeding and selling Angus cattle!
The winter of 2018-19 was a real bear, as have been the subsequent cattle
markets (pun intended). See picture on this page. The American Angus Assn. explains that cold weather can result in
longer gestation with higher birth weights; hence much greater accuracy with BW EPDs than actual birth weights
This year, we are offering 96 yearling bulls and 15 open yearling heifers. We are highlighting progeny related to
one of our herd sires: Marda Swagger 463. He is in the top 1% of the breed for WW, YW,and $W. He is in the top
20% of the Angus breed in a total of 14 traits! We think that defines a balance in quality genetics. See what you think.
All cattle are fed at Lost Lake Ranch. As we’ve done in prior years, virtually all cattle are sire-parentage verified
by DNA testing … you really get the cattle you think you are buying! We have obtained genomically-enhanced EPDs
(GE-EPDs) using Angus GS (Gene Seek) on all the registered sale bulls. These provide substantially higher accuracy
values on the cattle’s EPDs. We are again providing very extensive data on the cattle in the catalog, at our web site,
and through the free Ballyhoo Go app. You’ll note that the American Angus Assn Selection Tools (page 8) are virtually
identical to the information provided for each lot in this sale.
A clarification about genomic tests, if you look at the raw data from them before they are incorporated into the EPD:
each trait is expressed as a percentile rank within the entire population data base, from 1 to 100%. For each trait the
top percentile is 1% and the bottom percentile is 100%. Thus a 1% CED is top, a 1% Docility is top, a 1% Marbling
is top and so forth. Another clarification is that genomic tests clear away the bias added for bull management and
environment … genomic tests strip away the difficulty in comparing bulls fed heavily and those fed leaner rations.

As important as the numbers are, it is the physical traits of a bull that allow him to deliver his genetic information
during breeding season. Such traits as structural correctness, body volume, and reproductive characteristics.

There are reasons for optimism in the coming year: 1) Beef demand remains strong domestically and global
demand is increasing; 2) There is slowed beef production given increased heifer slaughter and thus fewer heifer
replacements; 3) Foreign exports of beef (esp. to Japan) is stable to improved; 4) There is a decrease in beef imports
(esp due to China’s decrease in pork production); 5) Feed costs appear to be stable to improved; and 6) There are
fewer cull dairy cows due to expansion in that industry. I can not say what the impact of the Corona Virus pandemic
will be??

Welcome to our 26th annual joint production sale with Lost Lake Ranch. We
appreciate your interest and confidence in our cattle and breeding program.
Grant and Deanna purchased Marda Swagger 463 at the 2015 Midland Bull
Test. That addition to the bull battery has been tremendous. In this sale are sons
and grandsons that cover the bases that a bull buyer is looking for, calving ease,
docility, milk, foot quality, and most importantly weaning weights. I say most
Windy Ridge Angus important as pounds on the ground are what pay the bills. We raised a Swagger
son (Windy Ridge Swagger 714) that has proven himself by siring a sensational
set of bull calves that are in this sale. His dam is a thick, deep sided cow. One
of 714’s stand out son’s had a 205 day weight of 837 pounds, a weaning index of 113. He then posted an
adjusted yearling weight of 1426 pounds indexing at 112. His ribeye EPD is 1.04. This bull will add to your
bottom line with the calves he sires.
We have two sons of EXAR Monumental 6056B. He puts it all together with calving ease, strong growth,
big ribeye and outstanding phenotype. Both of the Monumental bulls in this sale have marbling EPDs over

There’s little room for error in the cattle business. Producers need the most advanced information to make smart
selection decisions, and Angus Genetics Inc. (AGI) provides it through genomic-enhanced expected progeny
differences (GE-EPDs).
GE-EPDs have become the industry standard for herd improvement, building on decades of science-backed genetic
evaluation tools originated and maintained through the American Angus Association®, home to the largest and ever-
growing single-breed beef cattle database.
EPDs that traditionally contained all pedigree, performance and progeny information now also include results from
available genomic, or DNA, tests. Breeders who use genomic technology give buyers access to AGI-generated GE-EPDs
that provide:
Increased predictability and decreased risk for young and unproven animals due to enhanced
accuracy of EPDs
Better characterization of genetics for difficult-to-measure performance traits
(such as carcass traits, maternal traits and feed efficiency)
