Chess Dynamics is a principal defence and aerospace subsystem supplier to UK and overseas customers,
using engineering expertise to develop new and innovative military products for land, sea and air
applications. Chess design and manufacture precision stabilised and non-stabilised platforms, directors
and positioners for electro-optic, radar, communication, security and surveillance systems, inclusive of
thermal and daylight cameras and special sensors.
Chess Dynamics has been supplying equipment, sub-systems and systems covering the above categories
to UK Defence prime contractors and on specialist projects direct to MoD since 2005.
Chess designs and manufactures an extensive range of gyro stabilised and un-stabilised Electro-Optical
(EO) tracking and surveillance systems for military land and naval applications. Chess has extensive
experience and technical expertise in electric motors, covering DC brushed and brushless, along with AC
single and 3 phase motors and associated servo and inverter control solutions, all of which are incorporated
in our products and solutions.
These solutions incorporate thermal imagers, TV cameras and laser range finders and enable the user to
control the platform by joystick, auto-track, slew-to-cue, radar-cue and remote sensor-cue for passive target
detection, recognition and identification. The more complex EO systems are integrated and used as part
of complete fire-control systems and may also be integrated into vehicle surveillance systems.
Chess provides its customers with a complete design, development and manufacturing service from
standard products to bespoke engineering solutions. Chess is now the only independent UK supplier of
electro-optical platforms, communication and radar platforms.

RolaTube Technology’s proprietary Bi-stable Reeled Composite (BRC) technology has revolutionised the
field of communications, surveillance and inspection. Uniquely, BRCs are stable whether coiled or extended.
This allows a user to carry a five metre communications mast as a 20 x 26 cm roll weighing around 5kg. This
type of mast is much faster and easier to set up and take down than traditional telescopic and sectional
masts. It is also far smaller and lighter - critical requirements for challenging environments including defence,
nuclear and space.
The RolaTube mast can withstand harsh environments and is certified to MIL-STD-810G.
In Afghanistan the RolaTube mast allowed Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) equipment designed to
prevent attacks with IEDs to be taken off vehicles and carried by troops on foot for the first time.
Our latest Integrated Antenna Masts further enhance the advantages of the technology. This unique solution
integrates a high performing antenna into the structure of the BRC mast. This allows quick set up of
communications with considerably less weight and complexity than a traditional antenna system.
