Broad Square Primary School Friday 16th April, 2021 Newsletter Headteacher’s Message Dear Parents and Carers, I hope you are all really well and that you all had a lovely Easter break. The children have returned with a spring in their step to beautiful weather and have been enjoying time outside during their lessons wherever possible. As the weather gets warmer, please remember that children should be provided with a water bottle (named), and a hat. They should also have sun cream applied in the mornings too as appropriate. Hopefully we will all soon be heading back to shops soon for school shoes if shoes have been getting tight and I’d just like to remind you that girls should continue to wear their normal black school shoes with their blue summer dresses. This is for safety reasons. Hopefully you have all now managed to log on to the Parents’ Evening programme, ‘School Cloud’. If you are having any problems, please let your child’s class teacher or the office know as soon as possible. I know a lot parents will be worried about how to help your child at home – there has been a lot of talk about ‘catching up’ in the media. We will not be talking about catching up, but about building on the knowledge your child has right now. This keeps the message to children really positive. If you would like to support your child on a daily basis at home, the most powerful thing you can do is to read to your child aloud. You could look at books, websites, Picture News newspapers that I send home weekly, websites, poems, songs and comics – whatever stimulates your child’s curiosity and enjoyment. If the books then spark a discussion between you or their siblings, that’s brilliant! You can also put on the subtitles whilst they watch children’s programmes in addition, to give them more access to the written word and a range of vocabulary. Reading aloud to them helps them access different worlds in their imagination. It also helps them develop a wider range of vocabulary, which they can begin to use in their speech and in their writing. Just focus on what your child is interested in. We would love you to look at the following link: https://www.bt.com/tech-tips. Here you can see our wonderful children taking on Robbie Savage on Times Table Rockstars! This is a resource we use to help children learn and internalise their times tables. Each child in KS2 has a login that they can use at home. Please ask your child’s class teacher if your child cannot remember how to log on. Thank you for your continued support, Mrs. Corbett
