            diverse stage creations from BC,
Ontario, Quebec, Iceland, the US and beyond.
We have 22 performances geared toward
adults and families, with lots of comedy, stories,
songs, culture and drama.
With the Nelson Overture Concerts Society
we’re presenting four outstanding classical
music events. .
As you take your seat this season you’ll
notice some new things. Hats off to our local
contractors, theatre staff & volunteers for the
comfy re-upholstered seats and spiffy new
flooring! As well, we’re installing a hearing
loop to ensure our hard of hearing patrons
enjoy our shows, and we have a new website
that’s mobile friendly, easy to navigate, and
makes ticket purchase a breeze!

    he Dancers of the Damelahamid are back
    on the Capitol Stage with their new piece
    Flicker. Offering a contemporary take
on traditional forms and designs, Flicker is
an odyssey in movement. Portrayed through
Coastal masked dance, this is an innovative
multi-media dance piece that combines graphic
design with vividly rich imagery that represents
the mystical realm.

     standup comedy with dance. Mining
     the missing files of memory, the boxes
into which we misplace ourselves, and the
inexplicability of....you know…the…this...thing...
Tara Cheyenne’s new dance-theatre piece is all
about memory—the things we remember and
the things we forget, and, as she puts it “the
panic around that”.

O
         pening the evening is Alexis Fletcher’s
         17-minute solo piece Altar’d; inspired
         by the universal human truth that times
of fear and difficulty, often in the form of an
unexpected life event, can trigger a period of
intense introspection, spiritual development,
and personal growth.

Canada’s Ballet Jörgen contemporary retelling

    between Marina Nemat and MOTUS O

synthesis of dance, theatre and story telling
that deals with social justice on the theme of
Oppression and Freedom. It is a multi-disciplinary
performance with Marina’s character telling her
story in her own words, based on her bestselling
book, “Prisoner of Tehran”.

          hat poetry offers to literature,
          puppetry can bring to the theatre.
          “Metamorphosis” is a collection
of original short stories not told with words,
but with the metaphorical grace of Puppets.
It depicts the constantly changing nature of
our existence and our perception. Nothing
remains the way it seems, as it does not
matter what we see but how we see it.
Figura Theater of Iceland is the creation
of Bernd Ogrodnik, who long served as
Master Puppeteer for the country’s National
Theater, and is founder and Artistic Director
of the Icelandic Center for Puppetry Arts.

hockey team won an astonishing 300 games
and several Canadian championships, all while
fighting through the Depression, prejudice, and

dance choreography, this gripping production
captures all the thrills, excitement, and tension of

This is a Canadian sports story, a good one, not
to mention a feminist parable that explores a
virtually unknown chapter of this country’s sports

       to his children why their Muslim family
       doesn’t go to the mosque — and why he
eats pork. The nuances between religion and
culture are not always easy for many people to
understand, let alone for a five year-old.
In his new one-man show, “Muslim, Interrupted,”
Hassan grapples with these questions that his
kids have forced him to examine; his own identity
as what he calls a “cultural Muslim.”
   Actor, Stand-Up Comedian, host of CBC Radio’s
“Laugh Out Loud”, frequent guest host on “Q” and host
              of “Canada Reads 2018”.

    he Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev created
    the story and the music “Peter and the wolf”
    in the year 1936 to familiarize young people
with the instruments of the symphony orchestra.
Our production stays true to the original story
and the music leads the show on. Each and every
character represents an instrument of the orchestra.

      cello have been lauded for their refreshing approach to making

 Debussy, Poulenc, Schumann and Brahms. They debuted at Carnegie
 Hall in 2011 and have toured extensively throughout North America,
 Europe, China and South Korea. Honours include: Bryon,the 2017
 Canada Council for the Arts, Michael Measures Prize. Silvie, the Roy

         onashee Winds is composed of Nicola Everton, clarinet, well
         known to Nelson audiences, Karmen Doucette, bassoon and
         Akane Setiawan, oboe. Everton has 20 years experience with
 the Vancouver Symphony. Doucette has played with the Calgary
 Philharmonic and Setiawan with the Vancouver Symphony. All are
 currently with the Okanagan Symphony.
 The Trio highlights the rich repertoire popularized by French
 composers of the early 20th century. The unique sound of the three
 instruments blending together creates a delightful timber.

     is an open community choir directed by

Summer Youth Program

The Capitol Theatre presents the 31st annual
Summer Youth Program. This program is a
full time theatre intensive running Monday to
Friday, 9 am - 4 pm from July 2nd - July 28th.
We invite youth between 13-19 years of age
to audition in mid April 2019. Auditions need
to be scheduled in advance by contacting the
Capitol Theatre.
