An Introduction to Curriculum Enrichment Week To Students The aim of Year 8 and 9 Curriculum Enrichment Week is that all students take part in activities that contribute to personal development and interest in a number of ways. We want you to try things that challenge you and we feel that the activities offered will do just that. The activities and how they will be arranged are described on the next few pages. When you have read through this booklet with your parents, decide which programme you want to take part in and then complete the application form that has been emailed to your parents and carers All programmes on offer will be both enjoyable and challenging and we hope that you will take part in the right spirit and gain from them. Most activities are suitable for beginners and we challenge you to take this opportunity to try something that is new to you. The cost of each activity is shown on each page, a non- refundable deposit of 20% will be required by 1st February Further information will be provided for some of the activities upon enrolment and these should be taken home, shown to your parents/carers and kept safely. A Week in the life of a Racing Driver If you have a 'need for speed' then a week in the life of a racing driver is the activity for you! You will spend the week go-karting across various locations in Cornwall & Devon on both outdoor and indoor racetracks. No special equipment/clothing is required - however students will need to wear long sleeves, trousers (no shorts) and wear shoe trainers and not open toed sandals or flip flops. The week will also include some additional activities at some of the venues, such as, laser tag and zip wire. For more information about this week please see Mr Atkinson. No previous experience or special equipment required. The week will include go-karting at the following venues: St Eval Karting, Coast 2 Coast Karting, Plymouth Karting (plus laser tag), Adrenaline Quarry Karting (plus zip wire) and Blackwater ATV Centre. Sign up for ‘Makerspace’ during enrichment week 2022 and you will create something different in school each day. You will be based in the DT workshops and learn how to use many of the tools and machinery. Here is a list of ideas of what you could design and make over the week ! Sweet dispensers Robots Jewellery making DIY skills/challenges Metal pen making Model making – Treehouse village Marble Run challenge Medieval catapult challenge Treasure Boxes And more!!! You will be someone who interested in all things DT and will be able to focus on a different project for a whole day without giving up. CADET CAMP This is an extended CEW activity only available to Penair CCF cadets Please note that cadets will be leaving Penair on Saturday 16th July and returning on Saturday 23rd July. Annual cadet camp is the highlight of the training calendar and all cadets are strongly encouraged to attend. Cadets will spend the week living on an active military station, giving them a unique opportunity to see an operational base at work. Cadets will be able to experience many different areas of military life including the mess (canteen), barracks (dormitories) and sports facilities. Plans for annual camp 2022 include · Military section visits such as the fire section or military police · 3-day field exercise · Adventurous activity, likely to be Karting. There is also potential for shooting and flying to take place during the week. Cost for the camp is £85. This includes all food, travel, accommodation and the costs of all activities outside of the normal military experience. Football Academy Students will be taught a range of F.A standard football drills, which focus on all areas of the game, from defending and attacking to passing, shooting and set plays. The week is designed to build and develop both confidence and skill, through training, teaching and show- casing skills in competitions. The week will include a day of ‘Futsal’ as well as visits to ‘Footgolf’ at St Austell and a visit to Plymouth Argyle FC for an insightful ‘behind-the-scenes’ stadium tour including a ‘soccer school’ activity. This is the activity you don’t want to miss! . Students will require sports kit, football boots & trainers, shin pads and a water bottle for the week. Students will undertake a range of activities including: Riding lessons, Hacks, Lecture on: Tackup, Grooming, Mounting & Dismounting, Parts of a Saddle & Bridle, Points of a pony Gymkhana . Handy pony. Dressage test , Jumping, competition with rosettes Some riding experience is desirable but not essential If students have their own riding clothing including riding hat and boots, they will need to bring these. If students do not have these items, they can be provided by the riding school. Students are advised to wear/bring: Jodhpurs, riding tights, leggings or soft tracksuit bottoms (avoid ) trousers with stitching down the inner leg or jeans. A change of clothing would be recommended should the weather change Sun protection including long sleeved tops, sun hats and sun cream. different skate parks in the southwest from Penzance to Plymouth. We will set off from school every day and drive to a different location which will be home to up to 3 skate parks. These could include: Mount Hawke Skatepark; Prime in Plymouth; Concrete Waves in Newquay; the Penzance two (some will be weather dependent). The price includes travel to and from the skate parks. You must be able to supply your own board, pads and helmets and MUST be worn at all times Spaces = 13 Mr Powley £90

Penair Surf lifesaving week Come and join us for a fun week at Fistral beach. We will be using the world-famous surfing beach to train you up in the skills of lifesaving. The week is aimed to make you safer, more skilled in rescue techniques and ready to take on lifesaving opportunities with your local lifesaver club or lead to a job with the RNLI. What activities can you expect to do in this week? Rescue board use and patient pick up How to surf a rescue board in the surf The use of the rescue tube and patient pick up First aid level 1 and 2 Beach games Flags - lifesaving game Communication between lifeguards using flags and radio Beach rescue scenarios The week is designed to give students the most amount of time possible on the beach to learn about lifesaving in a fun manner. It is also designed for those who wish to achieve a qualification in lifesaving, either the tube rescuer or the lifesaver award. Both are recognised by surf lifesaving GB and the RNLI. (Great for any aspiring RNLI lifeguards). Dance Hip Hop, Street and Jazz A feast of high energy styles throughout the week with a professional Dancer/Choreographer. Dancers will perform their new routine to an audience at the end of the week if possible, to show off their new moves! Can I do it? Yes! Dance is for all- male and female, any ability! But you must be prepared to dance and learn... and have lots of energy! What will I need? Suitable clothing in which to move easily (ideally black), Jazz shoes, trainers or bare feet. Where? Penair School Main Hall/ Drama studio, from 8:30am-2.30pm with breaks and lunch hour (Lunch is available in the canteen or if you could bring a packed lunch). £30 Spaces = 30 Mrs Weeks
Bike Parks, Trail Centres, BMX Track & Trail building Love cycling? Already spend weekends shredding, but want to improve your trail riding skills? How about…… A week taking in the best MTB spots around Cornwall as well as spending some time designing, building, and developing our very own jump trail at Penair Provisionally we would visit Woody’s bike park and Old Hill bike park. We would also aim to tick off one of the larger cross-country style trail centres in the form of Lanhydrock. We might also visit Cornwall BMX where we would be issued with a loan BMX and check out life rolling on 20 inches You will need your own MTB (hardtail or full sus), gloves, helmet and possibly knee pads. You will need a waterproof jacket and backpack with a packed lunch for each day. Your bike needs to be in good condition, and you need to be a competent cyclist, as we will be tackling some challenging terrain and obstacles and covering some distance. Spaces = 15 Mr Taylor £100
GOLF This activity is aimed primarily at those who have never picked up a golf club before or who have very little experience (Low handicappers need not apply!) You do not need to have any clubs of your own. We start the week from scratch, (assuming no previous experience) Spending time first learning how to hold a golf club and trying to make some sort of contact with the ball. As the week progresses, we will spend time at a driving range and play some golf courses in order for you to put into practice all that you have learnt and get to have fun playing golf! SURF WEEK Whether a beginner or an experienced surfer, this is a great activity for all students. Each day will consist of a surf lesson provided by ‘Ticket to Ride Surf School’ at Perranporth Beach as well as extra beach games to keep the students fit and active. Surf tuition can be adapted to support complete beginners who have never surfed before right through to supporting the development of surfer with more experience. Students can use their own equipment or can hire equipment from the surf school (included in the price). Students choosing this activity should be confident swimmers and should expect to be very active during the week! Each day will consist of a surf lesson provided by ‘Ticket to Ride Surf School’ at Perranporth Beach as well as extra beach games to keep the students fit and active. Spaces = 15 Mr Burnett £150
ART WEEK You will have a creative week experimenting with art techniques and printing processes. You will explore lino printing, mono printing and screen printing. You will work with an artist creating and experimenting with different art and printing techniques, and have a day screen printing where you will design and create your own canvas bag. You will also have a day visiting Truro Museum and Victoria Gardens where you will take photos that will inspire your artwork. Spaces = 20 Miss Byrne £60
Myths and legends tour Come join us as we unearth some of Cornwall's’ mysteries. Stories of shipwrecks, mermaids, castles, and coves all waiting to be discovered! Combine this sightseeing with some mythical creative writing and poetry to celebrate and remember the week. £40 Spaces = 20 Mrs Kendall

Penair Bake Week Penair Bake Week is for passionate amateur baking fans. Each day the bakers will tackle a different baking skill, pastry, cakes, biscuits, bread, and pizza dough. Each day we will take one basic recipe, with the same ingredients and instructions, and ask our bakers to produce the finished product… sound easy? Well, any variation on the finished product will be a result of their own focus, ability to rise to a challenge, manage their time and of course include any technical knowledge and experience they may already have Will you be crowned star baker of the day or the whole week ? Scilly Camp This popular activity offers an exciting opportunity for students to experience paradise on the Isles of Scilly. The turquoise sea and white sand are often compared to the Caribbean, and we intend to make the most of the crystal clear waters. There will be a range of organised activities using the Island’s rich resources, including some of water sports or horse riding and boat trips, to the off islands. Accommodation will be provided at the County Council's Pelistry camp site just outside Hughtown on St. Mary’s.
