In December 1995, the Privy Council granted qualified members of CIMA the right to
use the individual description of Chartered Management Accountant. To qualify as
a Chartered Management Accountant of the Institute, a combination of academic
performance and practical experience is needed. After passing the final examination
set by the Institute and having gained a minimum of three years of relevant practical
experience, plus having submitted a satisfactory Career Profile, a qualifying student
is admitted as an Associate member.
