Commencement Ceremony
MADERA COMMUNITY
                COLLEGE
The original Madera Center got its start as a Reedley College satellite campus in
1985 to meet growing needs in the northern part of the State Center Community
College District. It began in portable buildings at Madera High School and
Madison Elementary School, serving approximately 158 students its first year.
In that same year, an additional satellite campus was launched to serve the
Oakhurst community. In 1996, local landowners donated the current 114 acres
site in Madera and enrollment began to soar.

Madera Community College became California’s 116th community college in
July 2020. Today, Madera Community College serves more than 8,000 students
at its Madera and Oakhurst campuses. The college offers 98 degrees and
certificates developed in partnership with local employers and universities to
support economic growth in our region.

                               VISION

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Congratulations Class of 2021

Today is a milestone I hope you remember the rest of your life.

You worked hard to get to this day. Many of you overcame significant
challenges to complete your degree. On top of everything, you earned a college
degree amid a global pandemic. You adapted, you persevered, and you finished
what you started. These traits will serve you well throughout the rest of your
life.

Whether you plan to pursue another college degree or move directly into using
your gifts and talents in the workforce, I am confident this is only the beginning.
Continue to take on new challenges—to learn and grow. This is how you will
succeed in an ever-changing world.

Each of you has a unique story, and now your story includes being a college
graduate. As you walk across the stage, I hope you feel the weight of your
accomplishment. You have taken a step toward a better future. You made your
friends and family proud. You set an example for those around you.

I hope you will look back on your time at Madera Community College and
remember the people who invested in your success. That professor who
challenged you. The counselor who made sure you had the resources you
needed. The staff member who noticed you and made sure you felt like you
belonged.

On a personal note, I am grateful for this historic moment. You are the first-ever
graduating class at Madera Community College. You will be our first alumni.
This is truly a day to celebrate for so many reasons.

On behalf of our faculty and staff, congratulations! Carry that mountain lion
