POLICY AND DATA
COLLECTION PANEL
12.32pm - 1.32pm (AEST) | Friday 16 April
In this panel we will consider the new Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Standard for
Sex, Gender, Variation of Sex Characteristics and Sexual Orientation Variables, 2020 (‘2020
Standard’) for the dissemination and collection of data on LGBTIQ+ populations and its
implications for policy development and service planning. Panelists will consider the
challenge of designing strategies for intersections of the LGBTIQ+ community when there
is a lack of data available, and what may be done to address this.

DISABILITY AND INCLUSION
PANEL
12.30pm - 1.30pm (AEST) | Friday 30 April
The health and social system is set up to meet the needs of people who are able-
bodied and neuro-typical. Given this is the case, it is vital that we work to identify
ways to reduce iniquities. LGBTIQ+ people already face increased barriers when it
comes to accessing safe and secure support. This panel will discuss actions to include
LGBTIQ+ people living with disability within the existing systems to improve their
health outcomes.

HUMAN RIGHTS OF OLDER
LGBTI PEOPLE
2.30pm - 3.30pm (AEST) | Friday 16 April
COVID-19 has exposed many rifts in our society including the fragility of human rights of
some of the most vulnerable in our society. This panel will explore how we can ensure the
human rights of older LGBTI people are upheld and enshrined. We will discuss how we
can effectively advocate for the human rights of the vulnerable and marginalised within
our own community and what role can community organisations and individuals play to
ensure the human rights of all older LGBTIQ+ people are honoured and observed.

ROYAL COMMISSION
FINDINGS – IMPLICATIONS FOR
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSIVITY
5.00pm - 6.00pm (AEST) | Friday 16 April
In the first week of March 2021 the findings of the Royal Commission into Aged Care
Quality and Safety were made public. Followed by our webinar held on the 24 March
2021, with key peak agencies to explore how the findings and recommendations will
impact – positively or negatively – on LGBTIQ+ older people in aged care and for people
considering moving into aged care. The Royal Commission is a watershed moment
for aged care in this country and will influence policy and strategy in this area for a
generation. How should we interpret the findings, what do they mean for diversity and
inclusion in aged care moving forward and what do they mean for LGBTIQ+ people?
