Term 3 Week 6 - Tuesday, 17th August 2021 Issue 24 CSS Trail Ride WOW!!! What an amazing weekend and a fantastic turnout by all the riders, volunteers and spectators. A huge thank you to all of our sponsors and organisers for another successful Trail Ride. There are so many people to thank for making the event possible!! Our all-important landholders, who put up with our ongoing communications and presence, and despite the dry conditions were willing to move their cattle as required to allow passage for our bikes. Our amazing sponsors and supporters, who ensure we put on an exceptional event. Thank you to all the volunteers from our school parental body, school staff, community, friends and family who share in the fun, madness and mayhem!! As we have been forecasting the last couple of years, we are in need of more people to help out please. If you would like to or are interested in seeing the Trail Ride fundraising continue for our school into the future, please come along to our P&C meetings held each month in the School Resource Centre (Library). From the Principal Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! To everyone who has in some way, shape or form been a part of the 2021 Trail Ride. The weekend had a great feel to it and there were so many positive comments on the Facebook page. After tallying up all the entries there were over 600 registrations for the weekend which is a magnificent effort given the timing and circumstances of the lockdown. Congratulations to P&C members (Julie-Anne Keppel, Trish Leddington-Hill, Tamara Scorgie, Rachel Green and Gavin Laracy) and their exceptional band of helpers for making the event happen because without you the event would not be possible. I sincerely thank you and all of the Trail Ride team on behalf of myself and the school for a mighty effort. Again congratulations and well done, we love your work! Don’t forget that next week is Book Week and Monday, 23rd August is our special street parade. This year we will be walking in the opposite direction i.e. starting on the small oval, out the front gate, past the police station, council chambers, ambulance station and then back into school via the large oval and into the hall. Parents you are more than welcome to join us along the route. If you are staying onsite for the presentations of best dressed please make sure you sign-in with the QR code which is at every gate around the school. Please see your child’s class teacher if you need help with costume ideas. Remember that you do not need to buy costumes and often the best costumes are what you have lying around the house. I look forward to participating and seeing the unique creations. With the commencement of Book Week celebrations next week, I encourage all of you to spend some time with your child reading a favourite book. Share your passion and foster a love for reading both for purpose and pleasure. There is nothing like escaping reality for a short period of time to enjoy a good book. Homework Centre (HWC) If you are interested in sending your child to Chinchilla State School Homework Centre, there are currently places available. The Teacher Aides supervising are: Mrs Wilson, Mrs Kleidon and Mrs Luke. It is fantastic that we can support busy families with this initiative. Can any parents who have students who normally catch the bus home, please remind them to attend HWC. If for any reason your child is not attending the HWC please inform the office. Curriculum Corner with 3A 3A has had an amazing start to Term 3. In English, we have been focusing on procedure writing. We have read Fantastic Mr. Fox and will write a procedure on the topic of “How to make a feast!”. In Maths, we started the term off by looking at multiplication and for our assessment we got to make a multiplication game. Everyone got very creative in their designs, it was amazing! We are about to test out our money skills next. HASS has us exploring places near and far. We have been learning about all the states and territories of Australia and Australia’s neighbours. Learning is really ‘heating up” in Science as we investigate heat. We have been looking at heat energy and what makes heat. When we get the chance, we have been cheering on the Australian Olympians and learning about the history of the Olympics. We have enjoyed keeping up with the medal tallies and exploring new sports. We have created some pretty amazing artworks in the process. From 3A Thank you to Downer We would like to mention a special Thank you to Downer for their kind donation of bunting orange safety flags which our groundmen is so pleased to have received for use around the school. It is greatly appreciated and we will be able to put them to good use around our school. 4
Parent Teacher Interviews The job of a teacher has 3 main parts. ➢ Firstly, it is a teacher’s job to organise a sequence of learning activities (called the curriculum). ➢ Secondly, to design tasks and evaluate student responses to these tasks that allow children to show what they have learnt from the learning activities (assessment). ➢ Thirdly, it is a teacher’s job to organise the results of the assessments and provide that information to parents, along with an evaluation of the child’s progress (reporting). Parent / Teacher Interviews are scheduled for the last three weeks of Term 3. Interviews are able to be booked online via the SOBS application. To ensure teachers have adequate time to prepare for your interview, bookings will close on Friday, 20th August. 2022 Prep Interviews As advertised, we are due to start our Prep Enrolment Sessions this week. Please find some information on the Prep 2022 Enrolment Sessions, below. All children must attend an Enrolment Session before starting Prep in 2022. The Enrolment Sessions are designed to create a sense of community and for children and families to meet and establish connections in preparation for 2022. This format also allows our staff to spend more time getting to know your children. All parents will be required to book a one-hour timeslot and bring their child to this session. During this time, parents will be attending an information session led by the Deputy Principals. Children will be nearby, where they will be able to interact with other children and have hands on activities, guided by some of our early year’s teachers. The teachers will spend some time with the children and we hope that this will be a positive way for parents and children to meet new friends in our Chinchilla State School family. Please call our enrolment officer on (07) 4672 9222 for all 2022 enrolment enquires. 5
