Diablo Day Camp - at 3 different locations!
Diablo Day Camp - at 3 different locations!
2015 Registration Flyer & Form You MUST download this file, fill out the form and mail it back with payment before the February 1 deadline! We offer 9 one-week sessions at Camp Twin Canyon in Lafayette, a one-week session at Little Hills Ranch in San Ramon and NEW!! a one-week session in Pleasanton. All sessions work in conjunction with the Diablo Day Camp Committee and under the umbrella of GSNorCal. With three locations, we are able to offer camp to more girls, not more camp to the same girls who have already gotten into camp. Diablo Day Camp at 3 different locations! Session LH only at Little Hills Ranch in San Ramon The Little Hills session offered day camp to over 350 girls last summer.
Little Hills Ranch is owned by the East Bay Regional Park District and run by Urban Parks Consessionaires, a division of The California Parks Company. Little Hills Ranch is a great site offering lots of shaded picnic tables, a large swimming pool and plenty of lawn area. Campers do not cook lunch. Cooking is limited to once or twice during the week and only a snack-type food. All campers and staff bring a bag lunch each day (please no peanuts or nuts at camp). Campers enjoy activities such as swimming, crafts, cooking, nature, archery (for Juniors and older), games and sports. There are large areas for volleyball, basketball, horseshoes and lawn games.
Contact Session LH Directors for more information. Sessions 1 to 9 at Camp Twin Canyon in Lafayette In 1954, local Girl Scouts used cookie money and generous donations to purchase 65 acres in Lafayette. Some land was sold to East Bay Regional Parks in 1977, leaving about 40 acres today. Ownership of Camp Twin Canyon was passed to the Girl Scouts of San Francisco Bay Area (now the Girl Scouts of Northern California) which maintains the site. Diablo Day Camp rents the site for the summer to offer day camp. Camp Twin Canyon is beautiful. Unit areas are spaced throughout the two oak-lined canyons.
There are hiking trails, picnic tables, a small pool and outdoor cooking facilities. Girls cook their own lunch most days. This outdoor cooking program is what makes Diablo Day Camp at Camp Twin Canyon unique in the area. Campers also enjoy other camp activities such as nature, swimming, crafts and archery (if available that session).
Parents! We need your help! Opening/Closing at Camp Twin Canyon Camp Opening: Saturday, June 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In June, we get Camp Twin Canyon ready for the summer. Come help us bring supplies into the Hive, ready our camper units and other buildings, assemble and label new equipment or perform other similar tasks. Refreshments provided. We need at least 2 adults from each service unit. Families are welcome (no childcare). Please contact your Service Unit Liaison or Camp Opening Coordinator, Athena, at firstname.lastname@example.org. We need your help!
Camp Closing: Saturday, August 15, from 11:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m. In August, we clean and store all equipment used at camp during the summer and “close” all camper units and buildings for the winter. Bring your family (childcare NOT available) and enjoy some time at Camp Twin Canyon, the beautiful home of Diablo Day Camp. Refreshments provided. We need 2 adults from each Service Unit. Contact your Service Unit Liaison or Camp Closing Coordinator, Starfish, at email@example.com. Session SC only at Shadow Cliffs Park in Pleasanton The Shadow Cliffs session is a brand new location this year! The property is owned by the East Bay Regional Park District and located in Pleasanton off of Stanley Blvd.
Shadow Cliffs offers a nice outdoor experience with a quarry lake and large picnic areas.
Cooking is offered but limited to a snack type food. All campers and staff should bring a bag lunch each day (please no peanuts or nuts at camp). Campers spend their time doing activities such as swimming and other water activities, crafts, cooking, nature, games, geocaching (for Juniors and older) and sports. Due to the different schedule and activities, unit leaders, core staff and elves will have different jobs at Shadow Cliffs than those in Lafayette. Contact Session SC Directors for more information. NEW!!
1. Complete one registration form per family/household.
Each family/household must complete their own form. All forms must be signed by the parent/legal guardian. Do NOT put unrelated persons on the same form. 2. Girls currently in Kindergarten through eighth grade are eligible for camp. 3. Campers are limited to 1 session per summer, regardless of session location. You may enter both lotteries, but will only be placed in one session if space is available. Please indicate as many session choices as possible in your order of preference.
4. Registrations are ONLY accepted via mail to the P.O. box and must be postmarked on or before the deadline of February 1. Please note our mailing address: P.O.Box 2804, Martinez, CA 94553-2804. Diablo Day Camp does not assume responsibility for late, lost or misdirected mail. 5. Incomplete registration forms will not be processed. If time permits, the incomplete registration form with check will be returned to the sender with an explanatory letter. The registration form can be corrected and re-sent with full payment to the registrar by February 1. No spots will be held. Please send in your registration form early in case there is a problem.
6. Campers and Elves of adult camp volunteers are given priority regarding session placement. All other complete registration forms (see above regarding incomplete forms) with full payment will be held until after February 1 and then processed randomly by lottery.
7. A camper currently in Kindergarten or first grade and ONE special friend in the same grade who would like to attend the same session may apply as buddies. Both registration forms MUST be sent in the same envelope. We do NOT accept groups of friends or troops applying as a group, even for volunteer staff. Important Information 8. Please arrange carpools AFTER campers and elves have been accepted into camp and placed into sessions. 9. Only those persons officially registered through the Diablo Day Camp registrar will be accepted into camp. 10. Non-Girl Scouts register with an extra non-refundable fee of $15 (GSUSA registration to September).
By attending camp, girls become members of the Girl Scouts. 11. There is a $35.00 charge for returned checks. 12. Financial aid is available through Girl Scouts of Northern California (GSNorCal) for campers and elves who qualify. A $50 deposit per camper or elf to Diablo Day Camp is required to hold a spot. Request aid as soon as you receive camp confirmation. Go to DiabloDayCamp.org for more information.
13. Refunds are made in October. Refunds are sent to the person who wrote the check that accompanied the original registration form. Payment, less a $30 processing fee, will be refunded if WRITTEN notice is received by your session director at least 30 days before your session begins. As a courtesy, please inform your session director of your cancellation as soon as possible so that if there are girls on a waiting list, they can be placed in camp. 15. Diablo Day Camp will reimburse camp fees for valid cookie/fall sales rewards. The original registration form must have full payment attached.
Do NOT send sales rewards with your registration form! When your child is placed in camp, mail sales rewards earned this year or last year to your session director at least 30 days before your session begins. To redeem sales rewards: make a copy of the back of the card (where the numbers are), write the girl’s full name, address and $ amount of sales rewards being redeemed. Do not send the card. After sales reward amount is verified by council and camper attendance is confirmed, camp fees paid will be refunded by October. See our website for more information.
Campers: Medical or Special Needs (including food allergies): All of our campers have the opportunity to cook and come in contact with many different types of food while at Diablo Day Camp, so food allergies are of special concern. If your child has food allergies, it may not be possible to accommodate those needs in a camp lunch or snack food. If that is the case, you may be asked to provide food for your child. While each of our sessions has a first aider on site, the first aider is only able to provide basic first aid. We welcome girls of all abilities and needs, however, we are limited in the support we can provide to campers.
If your daughter has a medical or special need and can function well with a 1:10 adult to camper ratio in a rustic environment, we will work with you to support her at camp. If your daughter would not do well with a 1:10 adult to camper ratio in a rustic environment, different camps may be more appropriate. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to work with you to come up with an accommodation for your child. Our first priority is your camper’s safety. Even if your camper is returning, please contact us.
