All teachers have covered most of the course content and skills over the two years. This includes topics
taught in lockdown. We are confident that students have the necessary subject knowledge and skills to
progress to the next stage of their education.
The guidance from Ofqual on awarding TAGs stated that ‘Teachers must assess their students’ performance,
only on what content has been delivered to them by their teachers, to determine the grade each student
should receive.’ Furthermore, the guidance outlined that ‘Teachers can use evidence of a student’s
performance from throughout the course to inform their judgement.’
We have followed the Ecclesfield School Centre Policy to ensure we are in line with all Ofqual and JCQ
guidance. The professional judgement of our teachers will be based on what has been taught to each
individual student. We will use a range of evidence, which is identified in the table below. We do not need
to assess each student on every aspect of the qualification. We will instead use a range of evidence that
shows the students’ performance on the aspects that have been taught.
Mindful of that guidance we have used the following information to finalise our Teacher Assessed Grades:
November 2020 Mock Examination - Full English Language Paper 1
- Full English Language Paper 2
Full papers from AQA. Marked using published mark
schemes, moderated and graded using AQA boundaries.
April 2021 Mock Examination - Full English Language Paper 1

- In class: Spoken Language Assessment (Y11)
Other evidence gathered by class teachers Including: In class practice questions and assessments
over the two years covering all English Language content and selected English
Literature content. In class extended pieces of writing,
produced independently. Additional evidence from remote
learning assessments: Anthology Poetry, Unseen Poetry, A
Christmas Carol. Class work from Y10 and Y11 as evidenced
through book work. Additional evidence from Independent
Study sessions and P6 work.
The range of evidence detailed above has enabled us to use exam board guidance to finalise a fair grade for
all our students. This broad evidence base enabled us to still finalise a grade for any student who missed a
single assessment point. Six pieces of evidence were assessments sat under exam conditions with all support
in place for students with access arrangements and special consideration (scribes, extra time laptops etc).
Access arrangements were also factored into internal assessments completed in classroom settings through
moderation and standardisation.
Our TAGs will be internally moderated by English teaching staff, experienced English examination markers,
the Curriculum Leader and SLT. They have also been checked by the Trust CEO before any grades are
submitted to the exam board.
This information sheet has been shared with all students who are entered for GCSE English Literature and
GCSE English Language in summer 2021 and shared with parents/carers.

All teachers have covered the full course content and skills over the past three years. This includes topics
taught remotely in lockdown. We are confident that students have the necessary subject knowledge and
skills to progress to the next stage of their education.
To support our judgements we have used supportive material produced by Edexcel exam board, such as
grade descriptors and grade exemplifications to guide and ensure consistency in our grading.
We have used the following information to finalise our Teacher Assessed Grades:
November 2020 Paper 1 Thematic Study, Historic Environment and Period Study (full

This broad evidence base enabled us to still finalise a grade for any student who missed a single assessment point. The primary pieces of evidence were assessments sat under exam conditions with all support in place for students with access arrangements and special consideration (scribes, extra time laptops etc). Our teacher-assessed grades will be internally moderated by the curriculum leader and SLT. They have will also be checked by the Trust CEO before any grades are submitted to the exam board.
