All Leicestershire libraries
Summer Reading Challenge 2019 – Space Chase! There will be lots to explore at
your local library this summer! Space Chase is an out-of-this-world adventure
inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. Children can join in the
fun by reading or listening to six library books or e-books throughout the summer
and will be able to collect six special stickers - including some smelly ones - for
their colourful collector’s folder. Participants will also be rewarded with a special
incentive as they read their books and a certificate and medal when they complete
the challenge. Free for children four to 12 years old.

Sun 7 - Soap Box Derby
Castle Street, Hinckley
Hinckley BID’s 10th annual Soap Box Derby. This is a tremendously fun, family day
for the teams and spectators alike. Comprising both a jump and a chicane, it is the
driver's choice, as they steam down the 200m Castle Street hill cheered on by the
           crowds. Build a soap box and compete, raise money for charity.

                          Leicester City Football Club Community Trust’s morning of
                          nostalgia tailored around the club’s rich heritage. As part of
                          their Then, Now & Forever Partnership, LCFC staff will be at
the theatre in the morning with their community-based workshop ‘Well Being
Through Reminiscence’. Formally known as Football Memories, take a trip down
memory lane, hear stories of the sporting legends and view memorabilia. Takes place

To complement the week long Snap Dragon Festival taking place in Hinckley in early
August, we are holding four smaller rural Snap Dragon events:

Tuesday 30 at Groby Village Hall and grounds
Wednesday 31 at Market Bosworth Parish Fields and Parish Hall.

The 10th Rail Ale Festival and the 50th anniversary of the railway. Jointly run by the
Battlefield Line Heritage Railway and Hinckley and Bosworth Camra. Fun for all the
family, with steam train rides, traction engines and entertainment. Dr Busker will be
performing on Friday and Saturday nights. 75+ beers, 30 ciders, Pimm’s, Prosecco, soft
drinks and food. Heritage buses running between Hinckley and Market Bosworth on

Atkins Building, Hinckley and District Museum and the Great Meeting Unitarian Chapel
Commences 10:30am to approx finish 12:45pm. A guided walking tour of the Atkins
Building, Hinckley and District Museum and the Great Meeting Unitarian Chapel,
where visitors can learn about these Grade listed buildings and the famous Atkins
hosiery family that connects them. Tour starts at Hinckley and District Museum,
Lower Bond Street, Hinckley where Phillip Lindley will highlight the connection
between the cottages and the Atkins Family. The tour then moves to the Atkins
Building where Business Centre Principal Officer Rebecca Wilbur will be guiding
visitors round and focusing on the family's industrial past. The final part takes place
in the Great Meeting Chapel with Hugh Beavin, who will explore the reasons why

Ada Lovelace, the Computing Countess of Kirkby Mallory,
exhibition. Ada Lovelace, daughter of English poet Lord Byron spent
her childhood years at Kirkby Mallory, Hinckley, where she was encouraged to
develop a love of science and mathematics. Ada is considered to be one of the first
computer programmers following her work with Charles Babbage's Difference
Engine, which is a calculating machine which required a written program to carry
out complex calculations. This month long exhibition combines portraits, images,
talks and interactive exhibits to bring to life and connect the relevance of her work
to the technology we use today.

The festive season starts in Hinckley with the Christmas lights
switch on and Tin Hat fair. There will be lots of entertainment
and attractions for the whole family throughout the
evening. The lights will be switched on at 6:30pm followed
by a fantastic fireworks display over St Mary's church.
There will be Santa's grotto, live entertainment, market
stalls and late night shopping. The Tin Hat fair will be in
Regent Street on Friday and Saturday night. There will
be free children's activities in the United Reformed
Church from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

Sun 15 - The Wizard of Oz

Ballet Theatre UK present The Wizard of OZ. Follow the yellow
brick road and discover all the wonders of Oz. Enjoy Dorothy,
the Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion, (and yes Toto too) as they
seek the Wonderful Wizard to find that there's no place like
home! A two act, full-length, ballet adaptation of the
iconic tale by L. Frank Baum, told through the magic of
classical dance. Set to a classical score which brings the
story to life, this production is family friendly and is the
perfect way to introduce children to the classical ballet.
The production is presented with beautiful backdrops,
stunning theatrical sets and costumes evoking the
iconic sketches by W.W. Denslow, from the original

Hinckley Town Centre
Hinckley BID will be hosting a very special guest for five days during December at a
secret hideaway in Hinckley. All the way from Lapland, Santa and his helpers will be
welcoming children and parents to the incredible grotto to hear all about Christmas

Youth club for age 8 to 19 and activity centre for all ages. A purpose built youth and
activity centre that caters for everyone. Facilities include climbing wall, sports halls,
skate/BMX park, 3G Pitch, youth area with table games, gaming and computers,
music studio, fitness gym, function suite, family room and bar.
Youth club: Monday to Friday 6pm to 9pm (Thursdays up to school year 9 only)
and Saturday 12noon to 3pm (sessions for all the family).
Activity centre: Monday to Friday 9am to 9pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday
11am to 5pm. Youth club entrance fee is £1.50 for members and £3 for guests.
Summer daytime youth club: Tuesday 16 July to Thursday 22 August 2019
Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the summer holidays, 12noon to
3pm (unless otherwise advertised).
Wicked Wednesdays during August will include activity and themed events and
will commence from 10am. All the usual centre activities for youth sessions and
more including: arts and crafts, bingo, cooking, wall climbing, sports, gaming, skate
park, BMX, dance and fitness for 8 to 19 year olds. Entrance fee £1.50 for youth club
members, £3 for non-youth club members.

Construction Club at Hinckley Library
Let your imagination run wild and enjoy playing with LEGO! All families are
welcome, children to be accompanied by an adult. Free session but must be pre-
booked. The club runs fortnightly on Saturdays at 10:30am to 12noon. The club will
have a break over the summer with the last session being Saturday 22 June but will
start up again on Saturday 14 September.
Listen While You Lunch at Hinckley Library
Third Friday of the month, 12noon to 1pm: 19 July, 16 August, 20 September,
18 October, 15 November and 13 December.
£3 per library member, £4.50 per non-member. Join us for a series of talks on
various subjects including history and local nostalgia. Tickets must be pre-booked
and include refreshments in the price.
Toddler Tea Mornings with the Family Learning Team
Tuesday 18 and 25 June and Tuesday 2 and 9 July, 11:15am to 12:30pm.
Come and join the Family Learning Team and do something creative with your
child/children. There will be free drinks & snacks, free activities, giveaways, fun and
laughter. Make something different each week – Playdough, puppets, lunch, books

Guided Walks at Bosworth Battlefield
These take place on Saturdays and Sundays throughout most of the year. Join an
experienced guide for an informative 2 km guided walk exploring the Battle of
Bosworth, the death of King Richard III and the unlikely victory of Henry Tudor.
Regular walks take place from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 3:30pm. Cost: Adult £4.50,
concession £4, child £3. Family tickets also available. Tickets can be booked in
