WELCOME TO FRESTA VALLEY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

Statement of Purpose
Fresta Valley Christian School is an independent Christian school with the purpose of offering quality
education from a Christian perspective. Our curriculum attempts to show the Lord’s place in every
subject taught. We have no church sponsorship, nor are we affiliated with any denomination. We do
not promote minor issues which tend to divide the body of believers.

Statement of Faith and Policy
We believe:
1. The Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
2. That there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
3. In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His
vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension
to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
4. That for the salvation of the lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely
   essential.
5. In the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a
   godly life.
6. In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, they that are saved unto the resurrection of life
and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
7. In the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

In honoring the purpose and outreach of the school, there shall be no attempt by student, teacher,
or parent to promote denominational positions. We desire to remain united in the salvation and love
of Christ, avoiding the dissension which may be caused by denominational distinctive.

Admission Policy
Admission to our school is open to all children as long as there is a desire for Christian teaching and
standards, and a willingness to submit to the authority and discipline of the school.

Selection of students is based upon achievement, standardized testing results, interview with the
administration, and the prayerful consideration of the administration. Fresta Valley Christian School
admits students of any race, color, nation and ethnic origin, to all the rights, privileges, programs and
activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on
the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies,
admission policies, athletic and other school-administered programs. New students will not be
allowed admission during the 4th quarter. The administration may grant exception to this policy for
students who have recently moved into the Fauquier County area. Fresta Valley Christian School
will not accept a student who is sexually active or involved in the use of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, or
pornography.

Admission Procedures
1. Application is submitted to the Fresta Valley Christian School Admissions Coordinator.
2. A member of the administration interviews the parents and student.
3. An entrance test will be given. Standardized testing results are reviewed.
4. Fresta Valley Christian School requires all students three years and older to have a School
Entrance Health Form and a Certificate of Immunization Form on file (immunizations must be
kept current and verification of new immunizations must be given to the Admissions Coordinator)
5. Administrative staff needs to see an original Birth Certificate and have a legal guardian complete
   a Sworn Disclosure Form.
Attendance
Attendance at school provides a student with classroom experience. This experience is composed
of participation in class activities and direct instruction conducted by the classroom teacher. The
instructional program designed by each teacher is a progressive and sequential experience. It is
generally impossible for that experience to be “made up”.

Failure of a student to attend school will be considered an absence. Each absence will be considered
excused or unexcused. An absence is an excused absence due to a personal illness, serious illness
in the family, death in the family, school-approved trips, church events/missions, medical or dental
appointments, or court appearances. In the event of an unplanned absence we would ask that you
please call the school office by 9 a.m. that day so we may inform teachers of the student’s absence.
• When a student will be out of school and the time of the absence is known ahead of time, please
request a Planned Absence Form. The parent should fill out the form in detail and return it to
school to be signed by each teacher and the principal. Course work will be noted on this form.
All course work and assignments are due on the day of return to class. Any make up
quizzes/tests must be scheduled by the teacher within (three) school days after the
    student returns.
• A student with an excused absence will be given a reasonable opportunity to make up
assignments and quizzes/tests missed during the absence.
• The authority for determining the legitimacy of an absence rests with the school administration.
    All other absences are unexcused.

Upon returning to school after an absence, the student is to bring a signed note from the parents
detailing the cause of the absence. The note should be neatly written. The student must present the
note to the school office before returning to class. The student is responsible for making up any work
that was missed. If a student receives an unexcused absence, grades on the work missed will be
lowered.

We highly recommend that family vacations and trips be scheduled during school vacations since it
is often difficult for a child to make up work missed during an absence.

Good attendance habits are important if scholastic goals are to be achieved, but please do not send
your child to school if he shows any sign of being ill (bad cold, fever, upset stomach, etc.). Students
must not return to school until 24 hours have passed since running a fever, vomiting, or
having diarrhea. These illnesses are usually contagious and may result in other children missing
several days of instruction.

Elementary Students (Preschool through 6th grade) - We will send home assignments and books if
you will call the office before 10:00 a.m. and make arrangements to pick them up after 3 p.m. Grades
3-6 will have homework posted on the website.

High School Students (7th through 12th grade) – We will be happy to gather any books from your
child’s locker; however, homework assignments are best received from a fellow student in your
child’s classes because of the number of different classes and teachers your child has. You may
also e-mail your child’s teacher directly and request daily assignments. All homework should be
posted online no later than Monday of the current week.

If a child misses more than 10 days in one semester or 18 days in the school year a conference will
be scheduled with the child, parents and administration to determine the eligibility of the child to be
promoted to the next grade level. On the 9th – 12th grade level attendance will be evaluated on a
course by course basis. (According to the Virginia Department of Education chronic absences is defined as missing more than
10% of the school year.)
In order to participate in extracurricular activities, a student must be present at least half-day.

If your child is sick, we will do our best to help him/her continue his studies.

Cell Phones
Students may bring cell phones to school; however, cell phones are the sole responsibility of the
student. Fresta Valley will not be held liable for lost, stolen, or damaged phones. Phones must be
turned off during school hours. If a student has a phone out during the school day it will be confiscated
and held by administration until a parent is able to pick it up. Students will be held accountable for
any information stored on a cell phone, including but not limited to pictures, text and music. If
inappropriate material is found on a student’s phone, disciplinary action will take place.

Cheating
Cheating is a serious offense. It involves taking information from another source and presenting it as
your own information. Cheating involves both the components of stealing and lying. Therefore,
students must come to understand the seriousness of an act of cheating. Cheating is defined as
copying homework, handing in another’s work, plagiarism in research papers and compositions, and
unauthorized assistance on homework, tests and/or quizzes.

If it is determined that a student has indeed cheated, the following actions will be taken:

1. The student will receive a zero on the assignment.
2. The principal will be notified.
3. The student will confer with the principal.
4. The parents will be called.
5. If the student holds any sort of leadership position in a club, class, or athletic team, the student
will lose the position. Cheating is a violation of honor, and leadership is a matter of honor.
Cheating and leadership do not go hand-in-hand.
6. A second offense will cause the student to automatically fail the quarter in the class where the
offense occurred. A conference with the parent, student, teacher, and principal will be held.
7. A third offense will result in the permanent expulsion of the student from Fresta Valley Christian
   School.

Parents will dispose of any curriculum that would give an unfair advantage. This includes materials
used during home schooling in prior years.

Check Out Procedures
During the school year, it sometimes becomes necessary to check a student out of school for medical
or dental appointments. The student should bring a note from home stating the date and reason for
dismissal. Students are never to leave campus without written or verbal permission from parents.
Students must turn in their written note and parents must come into the building to sign out students
at the front office.

It is best to make medical and dental appointments before or after school hours. When it becomes
necessary to schedule a medical or dental appointment during the school day, follow these
guidelines:
     • Students are counted present all day if they are in school for 5 hours or greater.
     • Students are counted absent a half day if they are in school less than 5 hours.
     • Students are counted absent all day if present less than 2 hours.
Conduct-Inappropriate
Inappropriate behavior will be handled by the individual teachers and/or the administration according
to the seriousness or persistence of the offense. Offenses not listed are up to the discretion of the
individual teacher or administration. Fresta Valley Christian School students are to refrain from the
following at or away from school; smoking, using tobacco, vaping, electronic cigarettes, drinking of
alcoholic beverages, the illegal use of drugs, immoral conduct, public displays of affection, physical
or verbal threats to students or teachers. Students are to refrain from gambling, sensual dancing,
disorderly or boisterous behavior, cheating, plagiarism, fighting, stealing, disrespect to faculty and
administration, vandalism, and any other behavior considered by the administration of Fresta
Valley Christian School not to be honoring to Christ. Students are expected to fill their spare time
with wholesome and God-honoring activities.

Fresta Valley Christian School students are expected to conduct themselves at school and away
from school in a creditable manner. A student may be expelled from school any time he is found to
be out of harmony with the rules and policies of Fresta Valley Christian School. These matters are
at the full discretion of the Fresta Valley Christian School administration.

All students participating in extra-curricular activities must maintain proper conduct.
Improper conduct may disqualify a student from participation.

Conduct at Sporting Events or School Related Functions (Students and Parents)
• Christian conduct from our students and parents is important to the testimony of Fresta Valley
   Christian School.
• Derogatory remarks should never be voiced to players, coaches, spectators or the officials.
• Showing disrespect to an official, speaker, or staff person is never appropriate at school related
   functions.

Discipline Policies
We believe in administering discipline with love. A child may be placed on probation, suspended or
expelled for disrespectful or uncooperative behavior, or for unwillingness to work. Fresta Valley
Christian School is an extension of the home. We will work with the parents in regard to discipline;
however, the final decision is the responsibility of the school and will be determined by the
administration.
• The faculty and staff of FVCS should be given the proper respect due their position. We strongly
suggest that our students be aware of Paul's admonition in Hebrews 13:17 to “obey your rulers
   and recognize their authority.”
• The administrative staff and teachers have authority over any and all students. In the classroom,
the teacher will determine appropriate conduct. Teachers have been given responsibility to
correct unacceptable behavior of any student in the school building or any area of the school
grounds. Understanding that this responsibility has been given to teachers, students are
expected to respond in a positive manner by acknowledging correction and stopping or avoiding
those actions which are unacceptable at FVCS. Students who choose to be disrespectful during
correction or refuse to obey after being corrected will be referred immediately to the principal, or
in the case of an after-school activity, to the person in charge.
• Parents will be notified if a student does not respond in a positive way
• Each classroom is expected to function within the parameters of these goals, which we believe
define our purpose as a school:
        o Academic acquisition of knowledge
o Discipline of mind and body
        o Character development
o Provision of an environment conducive to the pursuit of the other goals
When a student is enrolled, he is agreeing to actively pursue these goals under the direction and
authority of the classroom teacher and the administrator.

Any conduct which disrupts or distracts a student or others from the pursuit of these goals is
considered misconduct and must be corrected. When the objectionable behavior continues after
correction by the teacher, the student will be referred to the principal.

Policy Regarding Threats or Perceived Threats of Violence
Fresta Valley Christian School has a “no tolerance” policy involving threats or perceived threats of
violence by students. Parents should understand that the school’s first responsibility is the protection
of all of its students. The school takes this responsibility very seriously. Therefore, if a student brings
a weapon to school or to a school function, or has a weapon on his/her person, the school will
immediately expel the student. Parents are advised that the school will contact local police or
appropriate authorities and will note in the student’s permanent record that he/she was expelled for
possession of a weapon on school premises or at a school function. Possession includes, but is not
limited to, having a weapon in a locker, book bag, purse, or vehicle.

If the school determines that a threat of violence is credible and specific (directed toward particular
students or staff), the administration will report the threat to the student and/or staff member
threatened. The school will also report the threat to appropriate authorities. Students making such
threats will be expelled. For purposes of this policy, credible means a reasonable belief or suspicion,
determined at the sole discretion of school administration, that the threat was or might be genuine,
or that the student was or might be capable of carrying out the threat. The student’s permanent
record will reflect the expulsion for making a threat of violence.

In those circumstances in which the school determines that the threat is likely not credible, the school
will suspend the student pending a parent meeting. These include all cases in which the student was
“just joking.” If circumstances warrant, the school may conduct further investigation. The school will
require students in this circumstance to obtain counseling, at family expense, from a Christian
counselor or other professional agreeable to the school. No student will be permitted to continue
enrollment in the school until the counselor advises the school that the student, in the counselor’s
opinion, does not present a threat of danger.

Donations/Contributions
Fresta Valley is the school built by prayer. Contributions are gratefully received. The school is a
501(c)3 organization and all gifts are tax-exempt. A list of it can be found on our website at
www.frestavalley.org.

Field Trips
We may schedule field trips for class groups during the year for which there will be an additional cost
(admission, transportation, and perhaps lunch). When a field trip is scheduled, it is part of the
educational program and attendance is required. If a student does not attend a field trip a separate
assignment will be required. When possible, parents are encouraged to participate. Parents’ written
permission is required for all outings. Students who are consistently disciplined for lack of obedience
or cooperation disqualify themselves for participation in field trips.

Finances
• A non-refundable registration fee for each student is required and is payable with the application.
• Tuition is an annual fee and must be paid prior to the start of school. If arrangements have not
been made to pay for tuition by July 15th, the student(s) will be withdrawn to make room for
students on our waiting list. A ten- to twelve-month payment plan is available through FACTS
Management Services. Further information and applications are available in the school office.
• Accounts must be kept current (30 days), or the student will be unable to remain in school.
• Interest of 18% APR will be charged on all past-due accounts.
• Cost of collection, including reasonable attorney fees, shall be the responsibility of the
    parents/guardians.
• School records will not be released until all accounts are fully paid.
• A fee of $25.00 will be assessed for checks returned by the bank for any reason. FACTS also
charges a returned check fee in addition to the FVCS check fee.
• Once a student is enrolled, the family is responsible for full tuition. This is non-refundable.

First Aid
The school restricts its medical activities to minor first-aid (cleaning cuts, applying Band-Aids, taking
temperatures, having the student lie down, etc.). The parent will be called if the student becomes ill
or is injured. If your child requires medication during the school day, a Consent Form with complete
instructions must be on file with the school office along with the medication. All medication will be
kept in the school office. All medication must be in its original package or prescription bottle. The
school will not supply any medication to students. Students may not carry or distribute any
type of medications at school (this includes keeping Advil/Tylenol/etc. in a purse or
backpack).

Grading System
Our system of grading includes numerical grades for academic subjects. The following scale is used:

Numeric Grade Letter Grade GPA Points

Holiday Observances
Fresta Valley Christian School will observe the following holidays: Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving,
Christmas, Martin Luther King Jr Day, President’s Day, Easter, and Memorial Day.

Please note: Fresta Valley does not celebrate Halloween. Instead, we do promote the celebration
of “harvest time,” Christ’s coming to the world, and His death and Resurrection and suggest items
that would lend themselves to that theme.
Homework
Believing that homework is an integral part of the school program, each teacher is at liberty to give
homework to aid the students to advance in their studies. Therefore, each student is required to
complete his homework assignments on time. Homework is given for several reasons:

1. For reinforcement: We believe that students require adequate review to master material
   essential to their educational process.
2. For practice: Following classroom explanation, illustration, and review of new work, homework
is given so that the material will be mastered.
3. For remedial activity: As instruction progresses, various weak points in a student’s grasp of a
subject become evident. Homework following instruction is given to overcome such difficulties.
4. For special projects: Book reports, compositions, special research assignments, and projects
are some of the activities that are often assigned as additional homework.

Students will not be given extra time for homework due to participation in extracurricular
activities. Students should be responsible for completing homework before their involvement
in such activities.

We do request parents’ full cooperation in seeing that the assignments are completed. Failure to
complete homework will affect the student’s daily grade. Repeated delinquent homework will result
in a conference with the principal and possible academic probation.

Information Changes
Any time an address or phone number (home, work, or cell) is changed, please notify the school
office as soon as possible. It is imperative we have correct information on file in case of an
emergency.

Insurance
Insurance Policy: Registered students are insured through the Student Accident policy. Home
schoolers, students’ family members, visitors and others who use Fresta Valley’s facilities and/or
engage in related activities, waive and release Fresta Valley Christian School from any claim for
personal injury or property damage. They agree to carry insurance or have the resources to cover
the expenses related to personal injury or property damage.

School Accident Insurance is included in your registration fee. Please contact the school office for
claim forms, if needed.

Meals
Parents are responsible for providing lunch and a beverage for students. The refrigerator is for
teachers’ use only. Please use thermos bottles for cold drinks, soup, or hot drinks, if desired. Please
do not bring food or drink in glass bottles or jars.

Students in grades 7 through 12 may use the student microwaves during their lunch period to heat
their lunches.

Hot lunches will be offered four times a week. Information will be given out at the start of each school
year.
Programs
Several special evening programs are scheduled during the year (Speech & Drama performances,
Orchestra concerts, Fine Arts Fair, Elementary programs, etc.). We encourage all of our students to
attend the extra-curricular activities. As children are required to sit through daily chapel, we ask that
they remain seated with their parents throughout the entire program.

We would prefer students to dress up for programs.
*Whether participating in the program or as a member of the audience, boys should be
dressed in slacks and a collared shirt. Girls should wear skirts or dress slacks and blouses
or dresses in keeping with the school dress code. All members of the audience are expected
to observe concert etiquette.

School Closings
   • School closings, delayed openings, and early closings will be announced on Channel 4 News
      on NBC.
   • You may also check the NBC website for school closings or call the school phone number and
follow the prompts to receive weather delays and closings.
   • Closings will be posted on the school website and Facebook page and sent out via e-mails.

School Property
Good stewardship involves respectful care of all property. It is expected that students will not deface
or damage the school building or any auxiliary equipment (buses, desks, chairs, bathrooms, etc.),
and will not sit on tables, desktops, or counters, etc. It is the parents’ responsibility to pay for any
damage caused by their child.

Students will also respect the personal property of other students and faculty members. Students
will respect each teacher’s workspace and will not sit on or behind teachers’ desks. Care should be
taken that one not jeopardize relationships or possessions because of practical joking.

The athletic equipment rooms, kitchen area, janitorial closets, and all administrative offices, are off-
limits to students without special permission.

Telephone
School telephone use by students will be at the discretion of the receptionist and should only be
necessary if there is a change in the after-school activity schedule. Students are not to use the
phones in the classroom/chapel/etc.

Transportation
In order that we may assure that your children are supervised in the accepted manner, the following
rules must be closely followed for the well-being of our students:
    • Due to the Special Exception from Fauquier County Government, students are not permitted
        to drive to school.
    • We will not release a student to ride home with anyone other than (a) the bus to which he is
assigned, or (b) the parent with whom he normally rides home from school. If the parent
desires for another adult to pick up his child, the office must be notified in advance.
    • Parents driving on school property must observe the NO PASSING rule as well as all
speed limit signs. For purposes of safety and fire regulations, please park in designated
spaces only. Please exercise extreme caution when backing up your car.

Car Riders: It is very important that your children be picked up no later than 3:20 P.M. Buses will line
up first and cars are to follow. If you are unable to be here on time, please call the office.
Students not picked up on time will go to aftercare and those fees will be charged.
Students in preschool through 6th grade who are staying after school for an extra-curricular activity
must be supervised by a parent or other adult. Students in the Jr. and Sr. High will be allowed to stay
after school for events, but must display appropriate conduct.

Bus Rules - Parents
1. Please notify the school office with any changes and arrange for an alternate plan in the event
that you are unable to meet the bus.
2. Please meet the bus on time. Our drivers are unable to wait. If you are not there on time, a
$10.00/half-hour childcare fee will be charged for each child.
3. The parents will be billed for any vandalism/damage done to the bus by their children.

Bus Rules - Students
1. The carrying of pens and pencils is not permitted; keep them inside the book bag.
2. Do not put hands outside the window.
3. Do not shout to people in other vehicles.
4. Each child must be seated, facing forward, and remain so for the entire ride. Children age three
and four will be seat-belted at all times.

6. No food, drinks, or gum shall be permitted.
7. To ensure the safety of the students, a child may not return to pick up forgotten items after leaving
   the bus.
8. Do not litter on the bus.
9. The bus driver has the authority of a classroom teacher and is due respect and prompt obedience
   at all times.
*Those failing to obey the rules may forfeit their bus-riding privilege.

Fresta Valley Parking Lot:
• Drive slowly in the driveway and parking lots, per the 5mph sign.
• Do not park in the circle.
• The two (2) parking spaces closest to the school, near handicap spots, are for quick
    visits only.
• If you are walking your child in to the school in the mornings, park in the lower parking
    lot and use the sidewalk.
• Do not pass other vehicles around the circle unless a traffic attendant waives you around.
• In the afternoon, if you are coming inside to pick up your student at the beginning of dismissal,
please park in the lower lot. This will make for a safer dismissal since we will not have cars
backing out of spaces while we have buses and cars exiting the property.
• Buses have precedence and cars should not be moving around the bus.
• Follow the direction of the staff members in the parking lot.
• No U-Turns are allowed while in the car line.
• If your student is not outside at dismissal, ask the teacher on duty to have your student paged
and pull down to one of the parking spaces.
• Always be aware of children in parking lot.

General notes:
• Please stop at the end of the driveway.
• Drive carefully and courteously on Wilson Road. The road is shared with our neighbors, and your
actions reflect upon the whole Fresta Valley family.
• Remember that our students should not arrive at Fresta before 7:50 am (if so, they will be placed
in before care and fees will be applied.) Please be sure to pick them up no later than 3:20 pm.
• Students are to wait for pick up at the designated areas.
Visits to the School
• Parents are to stop by the front office if they need to leave something for the student or teacher
or if they have to pick up the student. You will not be allowed to go directly to the classroom
without signing in at the front desk.
• Do not loiter in hallways
• Receive a visitor’s badge for an extended visit.
• If you wish to visit for lunch or a classroom observation, check with school administration first.
• Do not interrupt scheduled classes to visit with teachers.
• Do not enter through any door except main entrance.

Website/Blog Policy
As you are probably aware from news reports, more and more schools are dealing with situations
where students have posted inappropriate information on blog sites such as Facebook.com,
Twitter.com, Instagram, SnapChat, etc.

Experts agree that accountability is the key to preventing online abuses. The knowledge that
someone is watching can be a powerful deterrent to internet misconduct. The Bible clearly states
that the Lord watches and specifically takes note of all the actions of men.

• For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings. –Proverbs
    5:21
• The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. –Proverbs 15:3

Any student found with material that is deemed inappropriate to the purpose and mission of Fresta
Valley will be in direct disobedience to this ruling and will be subject to disciplinary action up to and
including immediate ineligibility to attend Fresta Valley Christian School. As well, any inappropriate
postings will be subject to disciplinary action.

What Students Should Bring to School
Please note that accessories should be plain or with a message consistent with a Christian school
theme. Any artwork or design must not be offensive to the Christian school message. A class supply
list is available from the office and on our website.

In Closing
Fresta Valley Christian School is a ministry and we desire to be a blessing to your family for the
Lord’s sake. If you have any questions, suggestions, or if you desire to help us by volunteering in
certain areas, please call.

Yours in Christ’s Service,

Kevin R. Worsham, Administrator
ELEMENTARY

Dress Code/Uniform Information – Elementary
As a Christian school we desire to assist parents in teaching their children to strive to please Christ
in everything - including the way we dress. Our outward appearance should reflect the beauty of
Christ within and bring honor to Him. Students should dress for school in an appropriate and
modest manner. They should look neat and clean as though appearing on the job in a business
atmosphere and wanting to be a credit to their employer and an honor to their family.

To facilitate this, Fresta Valley has adopted a uniform program. The uniforms are required for
students in grades kindergarten through eleven. Our uniforms are available through Flynn &
O’Hara Uniform Company, located at Fair City Mall, 9650 Main Street, Fairfax, VA 22031; their
phone number is 703-503-5966. You may also visit their website at www.flynnohara.com.

Tardiness
Please see that your child arrives between 7:50-8:10am each day. Our elementary classes are in
chapel at 8:15 A.M. to begin the day. If a child arrives after we are seated in chapel, he is marked
tardy (unless the bus is delayed). Tardies are disruptive to the classroom and also have an
adverse affect on your child’s educational progress. Any student arriving after 8:15 A.M. must
come through the office and have a note stating the reason for tardiness before going to the
classroom. Tardy students will not be permitted to interrupt chapel or an ongoing class.
The child who is on time, settled and ready for the day, before chapel, starts his day on a positive
note. Students who are late start with a feeling of distress and defeat. Helping your child to
organize himself to be ready on time will benefit everyone.

A doctor or dentist appointment is an excused tardy and work will be permitted to be made up.

Excessive tardies will result in a conference with parents and principal.
JUNIOR & SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

A Standard Diploma requires that a student has passed two of the following math classes towards their
three credit requirement: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II. An Advanced Diploma will require that the
student has passed Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre-Calculus. Personal Finance may be
considered as a 3rd credit.
PE credits may be earned by playing Fresta Valley sports or by participating in activities outside of
school. Prior approval from the administration is necessary for credits earned outside of school.
Approval forms may be obtained from the front office. For every 60 hours of physical activity, .5 credit
may be earned.
Academic Honors
Academic honors are determined based upon the Grade Point Average (GPA) earned for all courses
taken in high school as calculated through the 34th week of the senior year. The Valedictorian must
have attended FVCS all four years of high school and have the highest overall GPA. The Salutatorian
must have attended FVCS for at least two full years and have the second highest overall GPA. If there
is a tie in the GPA calculation, numeric averages will be used to determine the honor. Students must
also be receiving an advanced diploma to receive these honors

Dual Enrollment
Requirements:
• Must pass Lord Fairfax Community College Math & English entrance exams.

Semester Grades/Final Grades
• See each teacher’s course syllabus.
• Seniors will be exempt from Final Exams if they have a 90% average and no more than four (4)
excused absences. They will not be exempt if they have any unexcused absences.
• If a student fails any high school class for the year, they must take an approved credit recovery
  course over the summer.

Senior Class Trip
The annual Senior Class Trip is a privilege granted to those who will be fulfilling the requirements for
graduation at the end of the current school year. All graduating seniors are required to attend the
Senior Trip. The purpose of the trip is to give the students an opportunity to examine what the Lord
desires for their lives and to confirm their commitment to Him. It also gives them an occasion to create
memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. The students will help with several fundraisers to help
offset the costs of the trip; however, the financial responsibility is the families.

Junior/Senior Banquet
Objectives:
1. Provide an evening that will bring honor and glory to the Lord.
2. Allow students an opportunity to experience a formal evening and build their social skills.
3. Allow high school students an opportunity to plan and organize a major high school function.

Dress Code
Girls: Gowns/Formal Wear - Dresses must come below the knee and have modest necklines and
include straps. Dresses will be checked by the administration before the formal.
Boys: Dark Suit or Tuxedos/Black Tie.

Who May Attend
• Faculty/Staff/Administration
• FVCS students who are in grades 11-12
• Other guests must meet with FVCS faculty prior to the banquet
• Students may bring a guest but the guest must be in 11th or 12th grade, or older.

Student Lockers
Use of lockers is reserved for Junior and Senior High students as a convenience and a privilege. Nothing
is to be kept in the lockers that could cause any disruption to the smooth running of the school or any
school-sponsored function. It is understood that lockers are school property and may be examined by
the faculty or administration at any time. No locks are permitted.
Lockers are a storage area for books and school supplies, not for valuables. The school is not
responsible for locker items that have been lost or stolen. Please do not store food in the lockers
overnight. If open drinks or food is found in the locker, students may lose this privilege.
Locker decorations: If students plan to “decorate” the inside of their lockers, stickers or other items that
do not come off easily are not to be used. Decorations are expected to be consistent with the character
qualities of FVCS. Items are not to be placed on the outside of the lockers. Students will be responsible
for keeping clean, neat lockers. All decorations must be removed at the end of the school year.

Tardiness
Tardies are disruptive to the classroom and also have an adverse effect on your child’s educational
progress. Please see that your child between 7:50-8:10am each day. Any student who arrives after
8:15 a.m. must report to the office with a note from his parent before going to class.

• Three unexcused tardies in a nine-week period will be marked as an unexcused absence which
results in a zero daily grade and detention.
• Six tardies in a nine-week period will require a parent conference with the principal.

The student who is on time, settled and ready for the day, starts his day on a positive note. Those who
arrive late start with a feeling of distress and defeat. Helping your child to organize himself to be ready
on time will benefit everyone.

Discipline
For minor discipline infractions (i.e. untucked shirts, late to class, chewing gum, eating in class, etc.),
teachers will complete a discipline form. A first offense will be logged in RenWeb and the student will
be given a warning. A second offense will be logged in RenWeb, the student will be warned and the
parent will be notified. A third offense will be referred to the principal and a one hour after school
detention will be assigned. A fourth offense will be referred to the principal, a parent conference will be
scheduled and an additional detention will be assigned. A fifth offense will result in in-school suspension
and a zero daily grade on all class work. Any offenses beyond five will result in an administrative
conference with the parents and student to discuss putting the student on probation.

*Detention will be held on the Monday or Tuesday following the offense from 3:15 – 4:15.

It is our hope that the students of Fresta Valley will be raised up to abide by the rules and that we will
not need to implement any type of detention throughout the school year.

Electronic Devices:
Electronic devices will be allowed for educational purposes only with the exception of cell phones
which are not to be used at all.

Headphones will be allowed for extra-curricular activities and may be used on the bus trips. Once we
arrive, all of these listening devices should be put away and the students should be engaged in the
activity.
