Description
The tree lined lane drive leading to Furlong House provides
the first glimpses of the well-proportioned and elevated
façade of this elegant and beautifully presented house. The
park railings, extensive use of granite in the landscaping
and the adjoining new and well-kept stable yard confirm the
impression of the quality of the remainder of the property
and its grounds.

The House
Furlong House has undergone a complete renovation and
now represents a turn-key home of exceptional quality. The
house is entered via the pillared portico protecting the front
door leading into the welcoming entrance hallway with its
wide and generous main staircase up to the first floor. The
accommodation at the front of the house is bathed in light
from the tall sash windows, bringing the wonderful long view
right into the rooms. The drawing room and sitting room,
symmetrically arranged either side of the hall, have open
fireplaces and are beautifully decorated, making the most of
their tall ceilings and classical proportions.
At the rear of the house the kitchen/breakfast room
forms the heart of family life and provides bright space
for informal dining, with contrasting outlook west, over a
more intimate view of parkland and woodland. From the
Furlong House Chagford, Devon - Savills
kitchen the accommodation extends to a back kitchen,
also useful for casual summertime dining opening through
French doors to an enclosed garden and outdoor eating
area. There is extensive well thought out utility space for
laundry, boots and drying. There are two separate office /
studies quietly tucked away from the rest of the downstairs
accommodation.
Contrasting with the elegant proportions of the font of the
house, the original 16th century farmhouse at the rear of the
house provides an intimate dining area with flagstone floor,
restored oak plank and muntin screen and two significant
granite inglenook fireplace on the ground floor. Above this
area are two semi-independent guest bedrooms and a bath
room. This older area of the house has previously been
used as a separate cottage with its own front door and
internal staircase.

The principal bedrooms on the first
floor mezzanine include two generously
proportioned and well-appointed suites.
In addition there are five other bedrooms
providing significant flexibility for both
family and guests. In total there are nine
bedrooms.

The parkland
The foreground of the view and the immediate setting of the front of the house is made up
of classical parkland with a canvass of a verdant permanent grassland, framed and broken
up by specimen trees and flanked by light woodland. There is a small lake between the
two main enclosures and delightful walks out from the gardens through the bluebell woods
down to and along the stream that forms the western boundary of the property.
The parkland was originally a part of Furlong Farm and used for cattle. In 2017 the current
owners entered into a farm business tenancy with the Dartmoor Shepherd Ltd to use the
land for their Dartmoor Long wool sheep enterprise.
