Message from the Team
We recognised Domestic and Family Violence Awareness with a great
turnout to support our Joining Hands Against Family and Domestic
Violence BBQ in Gin Gin Streetscape Park on 10 May with many of the
community showing their support by attending and writing messages on
our static display of hands. A special thanks to Robert from the Gin Gin
MenShed for making sure everyone was well fed.

Welcome Everyone,
Firstly I’d like to introduce Lee, our new Care Worker Admin. Some of you would have already
spoken to Lee on the phone or met her at our last social lunch. Lee comes with previous
experience in aged care and admin and has already showed that she is going to be a great
asset to our team. She is also in the Staff Spotlight this month.
We have two social events coming up in June with our next social lunch and an outing later in
the month. This is a good time to get out and about while being supported by our wonderful
staff. Please contact the office to book.
With the cold weather setting in it is important to check your heaters, electric blankets and
smoke alarms for faults or damage. If you are unsure about any of these items ask a friend,
family member or an electrician to check them for you.
Until next time,
Lee-Anne

     PET THERAPY FOR THOSE WITH
              DEMENTIA
Assisting people with Dementia to interact with a variety of animals
such as a dog, cat, bird, chooks or even a horse has become a well
known source of therapy within recent years. This type of therapy
has been said to reduce boredom, depression, isolation and
loneliness. There has also been an increase in a person’s interaction
with others, cognitive ability and communication.

KOLAN COMMUNITY OPTIONS provides entry level support for younger people and frail, older people to assist
and re-enable clients to live independently in a safe home environment within their own community. We also
provide assistance to carers to maintain their caring role by offering respite services so that the carer can take a
break. We are funded through the Commonwealth Home Support Program and the Queensland Community
    Care Program.
