                                    2020-21

Greene County Tech Primary encourages parents to become actively involved in their child’s education.
A child’s education is a responsibility shared by school and family during the entire time the child spends
in school. When parents are actively involved in their children’s education, they do better in school.
Therefore, GCT Primary will promote and support family involvement.

GCT Primary serves students in grades Kindergarten and First Grade, and is Title 1 school- wide. GCT
Primary is a Needs Improvement School. Fifty percent of students receive free or reduced lunches.

                      The Parent and Family Engagement Committee is as follows:

Parents:

1: Jointly Developed

   ● GCT Primary Parent and Family Engagement Committee is responsible for creating the school’s
     Parent and Family Engagement Plan as well as evaluating the effectiveness of the program.
   ● GCT Primary will engage parents in the annual evaluation of the Title 1, Part A Program’s
     parental involvement and efforts through an annual evaluation using a comprehensive needs
     assessment filled out by teachers, parents and school staff. The Title 1 committee, made up of
     teachers, parents and school staff will determine the effectiveness of the Parent and Family
     Engagement Plan and make changes if warranted. While collecting evidence about satisfaction
     with the program and the school’s efforts to increase parental involvement will be a part of the
     evaluation, the survey will also collect specific information on the (1) growth in number of parents
     participating in workshops and meetings; (2) specific needs of parents; (3) effectiveness of
     specific strategies; and (4) engagement of parents in activities to support student academic growth.

   ● The GCT Primary Family and Community Engagement committee will review the results of the
     parent interest surveys to assist in planning the parental involvement activities for the year. Person

2: Annual Title I Meeting

   ● The school will conduct an Annual Title 1 meeting for parents of the students who participate in
     the Title 1, Part A Program (Fall 2020 TBA). The school will hold their annual Title 1 meeting
     separate from any other meetings or activities to ensure that the administrator, Tammy
     Birmingham, has ample time to provide a description/explanation of school curriculum,
     information on proficiency level students are expected to meet. Person responsible: Tammy

   ● The agenda, sign in sheet and the minutes for this meeting will be generated separately from any
     other events and kept on file in the school’s office. Person responsible: Rebecca Murry/ Parent

3: Communications

   ● Each classroom teacher will send home a folder containing student papers and work samples each
     week and be used for two-way communication. Parents will be asked to sign necessary papers that
     need to be returned to school. Person responsible: Classroom teachers: 870-215-4420
   ● Teachers will send home a newsletter each week concerning class work and upcoming classroom
     and school events. Person responsible: Classroom teachers: 870-215-4420
   ● Teachers will routinely contact parents on an individual basis to communicate about their child’s
     progress. They will also use Google Classroom and the Remind App. Virtual students will also
     use Zoom and Lincoln Learning. Person responsible: Classroom teachers: 870-215-4420
   ● The GCT School District website can be found at www.gctsd.k12.ar.us. The district website
     includes both district and individual building information such as: district and school calendar,
     staff information and email address, announcements, Handbooks, and upcoming events. Person

   ● The school will provide to parents progress reports every 5 weeks, and report cards every 9 weeks
     with information regarding their child’s academic progress. Person responsible: Classroom

   ● The school will send letters home with students, post notices in school facilities and the school
     website, on school signage, GCT’s cable TV channel, and provide information for local
     newspapers and radio stations about parent workshops and meetings. Person responsible: Event
     sponsor and committee.

● The school staff will distribute an Information Packet annually to the parent/guardian of each child
  in school, describing and/or including:
      1. The school’s Parent and Family Engagement Plan
      2. The recommended role of the parent, student, teacher, and school
      3. Ways for the parent to become involved in the school and his/her child’s education
      4. A survey for the parent concerning volunteering at the school
      5. Suggestions of ways parents can become involved in their child’s education
      6. Activities planned throughout the school year to encourage parental involvement

● Teachers will hold Parent/Teacher conferences twice each year. They will meet individually with
  parents of children in their classrooms to discuss their child’s academic results. Parents will be
  given suggestions for coordinating school-parent efforts and explanations of homework and
  grading procedures.
   The 2019-2020 conferences are scheduled for:
              ❖ October 29, 2020 (4:00-8:00 p.m.) These will be held virtually.
              ❖ February 25, 2021 (4:00-8:00 p.m.) Possibly virtual or in person

 Greene County Tech Primary will start this 2020-2021 school year off with a Virtual and Drive
  Through Open House. The Virtual Open House will be presented using our building’s Google
  Website. This site can be found by going to the district webpage looking under the Primary
  building. Each teacher will introduce him or herself and describe a little bit about their role in the
  building. Each teacher will also have an established website for their classroom that parents and
  students can get on from the Master Primary Site. These sites will give parents and students easy
  access to the student’s Google Classrooms. (Any questions about website please contact, Amber

● GCT Primary will have Parent and Family Engagement Nights (September 24, 2019 and February
  27, 2020) which will include parent training sessions to help parents and families understand how
  to enhance their child’s education. The meetings will be held during the evening to better
  accommodate families. Outside speakers will provide families with more information concerning
  ways to make their child’s academic life more successful. Person responsible: Amber

● The district will offer parents a public meeting each year to provide an explanation of the
  statewide assessment system, standards, and other accountability measures. Person responsible:

4: School-Parent Compact

   ● The GCT Primary School staff, parents, and students will develop a school-parent-student
     compact. This compact will outline how parents, school, staff, and students share the
     responsibility for improving student academic achievement and the means by which the school
     and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the state’s high academic

standards. All stakeholders are asked to sign the compact which is in the Parent/Student

   ● GCT Primary will update its volunteer resource book annually. Teachers will be encouraged to
     utilize parent volunteers whenever possible. Person responsible Rebecca Murry/ Parent Center

5: Reservation of Funds

   ● The school district will reserve a minimum of 1% of the Title 1, Part A allocation for parental
     involvement. All Title 1, Part A schools will include parents in deciding how these funds will be

6: Coordination of Services

   ● GCT Primary will provide opportunities for parents and community members to support the
     instructional program through such programs as Primary VIPs and the Parent Teacher
     Organization. The Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator will explain the requirements to
     parents and encourage them to become involved in the school. Brief training sessions will provide
     parents and community members with the information they need to participate as school
     volunteers in order to put them at ease and make the experience pleasant and successful. Person

   ● Provide instruction to parents on how to incorporate developmentally appropriate learning
     activities in the home environment, including without limitation: role play and demonstration by
     trained volunteer, the use of and access to the Department of Education website tools for parents,
     assistance with nutritional meal planning and preparation and other strategies or curricula
     developed or acquired by the school district for at home parental instruction approved by the

  ● To take advantage of community resources, the school shall consider recruiting alumni from the
     school to create an alumni advisory committee to provide advice and guidance for school

   ● Utilize the Parent Teacher Organization to foster parental and community involvement within the

   ● Parent evaluation surveys will disseminated each year to enable the school to determine if their

7: Building Capacity of Parents

   ● GCT Primary will ask parents to fill out a parent interest survey each year to get information from
     parents concerning the activities they feel will be most beneficial in the efforts to support their
     child academically. Person responsible: Rebecca Murry/ Parent Center Coordinator, Amber

   ● GCT Primary has a wide variety of instructional materials in the Parent Center that are available
     for parents to check out or have materials sent home in backpacks. The school will open the Parent
     Center during school hours. If parents are unable to visit during school hours, materials may be

   ● Materials that promote and support responsible parenting have been acquired by the GCT Primary
     and are located in the Parent Center and in our lobby. Many of these materials are free and

   ● Parents will be encouraged to view the Title 1 Parent Involvement Plan on the school website, at

   ● Information concerning resources available to parents, and pamphlets concerning problems faced
     by students of GCT Primary School population will be made available in the counselor’s office

8: Building Capacity of School Staff

   ● Greene County Tech Primary School recognizes that parents play an integral role in supporting
     their student’s academic success. GCT Primary strives to make its campus a welcoming place for

parents and encourage their participation and support in their child’s education. Procedures and
     training are in place to assist teachers in communicating and working with parents in this process.
   ● The State Board of Education’s Standards for Accreditation of Public Schools and School Districts
     shall require no fewer than two (2) hours (every 4 years), of professional development for teachers
     designed to enhance the understanding of effective parental involvement strategies, and no fewer
     than two (2) hours (every 4 years), of professional development for administrators designed to
     enhance understanding of effective parental involvement strategies and the importance of
     administrative leadership in setting expectations and creating a climate conducive to parental

   ● The building principal has appointed Amber Farmer to serve as the Parent and Family

   ● Included in the GCT Primary Handbook is the process for resolving parental concerns, including
     how to define a problem, whom to approach first, and how to develop solutions. All parents are

9: Building Capacity-Discretionary

      Greene County Tech School District employee’s four social workers to support services for our
       students and families. The following are some of the services they provide to our families:
       Food Backpacks
       Clothing Closet
       School Supplies
       Hygiene Products
       Home visits
       Transportation
       Medical, Dental, and Eye care appointments and assistance
       Thanksgiving Boxes
       Christmas Adopt a Child
       Hair Cut Program
       Application Assistance for Food Stamps, Medicaid, and other services
       Referrals to outside agencies
       Attendance/Truancy

      GCT Primary participates in the Partners In Education program through the Paragould Chamber of
       Commerce. Partners In Education is a volunteer program structured to build effective partnerships
       between the community and local schools to promote and enhance learning. Opportunities include
       Christmas Sponsorship, etc. GCT Primary Partners In Education are Flower Shop Network, Ridge
