What is HeatSmart and where has it been?

Note: Some programs have
multiple towns combined
(i.e. Carlisle/Concord/Lincoln)
13

  How can HeatSmart benefit Newton?
• Educate the community on electrification of the home.
• Increase understanding about benefits of efficient heat
  pump technology.
• Encourage adoption of this technology in our homes.
• Connect you with vetted, reliable, knowledgeable
  installers who you can trust.
• Squeeze a little time and cost out of your project through
negotiated contracts with installers of these technologies.
• Allows you to educate your neighbors and increase
adoption once they see your completed project.
14

              Technology #1:
 Air-Source Heat Pumps for Heating/Cooling
               Ductless “Mini-Splits” Central Ducted Systems

Single Zone

  Multi Zone
15

          Technology #2:
Heat-Pump (hybrid) Hot Water Heaters
16

You don’t need to do everything at once
It doesn’t have to be a “do it all now” project
  • Get started with a single mini split with one or more heads.
  • Add a heat pump to a large open area of your home and see
how it affects your comfort in this and other adjacent rooms.
  • Start with a heat pump hot water heater.
  • Increase coverage of your system as you get more
    comfortable with the technology.

Remember, the more heating/cooling you do with
heat pumps, the more important it is to improve
your insulation, allowing use of less electricity
and a much smaller heat pump system.
17

  How do I finance it?
      Zero Percent Heat Loan –
      0% for 7 years, up to $25,000

Additional benefits available for low income residents
100% free weatherization, replacement of inefficient appliances, and FREE heat
pump heating/cooling if upgrading from conventional electric resistance heating.

Plus rebates and financial incentives …
