We request our distributors to act as “final” quality control on our hollow metal. A simple double check procedure by an assembly person prior to modifying a door or welding a frame should be performed on every unit of product that leaves a distributor’s place of business. This simple action can prevent a considerable amount of potential field problems.

C-003 JOB NO. PROJECT LOCATION SHEET NO. OF GENERAL NOTES: 1. Material shown on these drawings will be fabricated only after formal approval by the architect and contractor, receipt of approved hardware schedule and all necessary hardware templates. 2. Doors and frames will be reinforced for surface mounted hardware as required. Drilling and tapping for attaching of surface mounted hardware to be provided by others. Doors and frames will be prepared and reinforced for mortise hardware. Holes for this hardware will be drilled and tapped at the factory. Surface exit cylinder and thumb piece holes factory drilled only when ordered. 3. All doors and frames will receive an iron phosphate pretreatment and 1 coat of baked on prime paint. 4. All frame glass stops will be installed tight to the soffit with one screw unless otherwise detailed herein. Installation of glass and glazing (doors and frames) by others.

5. All doors and frames will be marked with the architect’s number unless specified otherwise. 6. Adhesive door silencers (field applied by others after finish painting) will be supplied 3 per strike jamb for single frames and 2 per head for double frames or if noted. All frames will be prepared for push-in type silencers, 3 per strike jamb for single frames or 2 per head for double frames (supplied by others). 7. Unless noted otherwise, all hollow metal frames shall be die-mitered. Knock-down construction or set-up and welded as specified. 8. The hardware locations indicated on the door and frame elevation are this manufacturer’s standard locations for standard type hardware unless noted otherwise herein. Other hardware such as deadlocks, panic exit devices, etc., will also be located at this manufacturer’s standard locations for that specific hardware unless advised otherwise.

9. All 1-3/4" hollow metal doors to be undercut on the bottom 5/8", unless noted otherwise. 1-3/8" doors are undercut 3/4". 10. On PAIRS of DOORS indicate ACTIVE LEAF in the HANDING column, if required. 11. Store doors and frames at the building site under cover. Place units on at least 4" wood sills or on the floors in a manner that will prevent rust and damage. Avoid use of non-vented plastic or canvas shelters, which create a humidity chamber. If the wrapper on the door becomes wet, remove immediately, provide 1/4" space between doors to promote air circulation. Additional storage information per ANSI A250.8 (SDI100) is recommended.

12. When frames in masonry construction to be filled with grout and anti-freeze agents are present, the insides of the frames shall be treated by the general contractor with a suitable undercoating material. 13. 5-3/4 M Series 12 ga. frames require 1/2" minimum backbend returns instead of 7/16". Locate a removable frame spacing bar at base of centered frame to maintain proper opening width during installation. 8. Square and plumb frame and install base anchor screws through countersink holes in frame face and into floor plate. 9. Level, square, and plumb top of frame and tighten compression bars by turning screws counter clockwise. (Do not overtighten) 10. Install (4) No. 8 x 1/2 sheet metal screws at the corners of the head to attach head to jambs. OF The purpose of these installation instructions is to describe how this product should be used to obtain the desired results of providing a secure door unit in severe weather. The use of this document is not to describe how to completely hang a door unit but to show items specific to the StormPro 361. The primary intent of the StormPro 361 is to be used as a component in community shelters as described in FEMA 361 (Design and Construction Guidance for Community Shelters) and ICC 500 (ICC/NSSA Standard for the Design and Construction of Storm Shelters). 1) The Storm Pro 361 single door opening was designed for a masonry wall. Twelve anchors have been supplied. Masonry T or wire anchors: Five anchors per jamb shall be used between the courses of concrete masonry units. T anchors may be bent down into the block to allow room for the rebar. Existing wall anchors: Five welded anchors per jamb shall be used in conjunction with 3/8" diameter expansion shell anchor bolts. Head Anchors: 2 up to and including 3'0" width. 2) The door shall be installed in an out swing condition. The door shall be installed with 4-1/2" x 4-1/2" x 0.180" heavy weight hinges. McKinney SP-T4-A3786 26D or SP-T 4A3386 32D Continuous hinges: Markar HG 305 or McKinney MCK HG305. 3) The doors are supplied with a 5/8" undercut. (1/4" max. clearance allowed between the bottom of the door and the top of the strike).

4) The door, frame, and hardware are an integrated unit. Install the SARGENT FM8700 surface vertical rod exit device in accordance with the installation instructions provided by the lock manufacturer including the 4 thermal pins (fire rated openings only) as indicated. 5) A secure mounting to the floor is required for the bottom bolt strike. After frame installation locate this and drill accordingly to mount strike (NOTE: 1/4" max. clearance allowed between the bottom of the door and the top of the strike). Install the SARGENT FM8700 surface vertical rod exit device in accordance with the installation instructions provided by the lock manufacturer including the HC980 hardware mullion as indicated. 5) A secure mounting to the floor is required for the bottom bolt strike on each door leaf.
