volunteer with our partner organization, Artisans’
Association Cambodia, Dorothée spent three days -Shoe organizer -Little dress
with us on marketing, branding, and developing a
new line for 2014. -Pillows -Tortoise bag
                                                               -Pajamas
On the first day, Dorothée worked to develop a
theme for all Homeland products. We decided that as -Baby footies
a child NGO, we should “lean toward childhood,” and
develop a line especially for children and mothers. LEARN PLAY!
Dorothée led our team in brainstorming products in
four categories: at home, going out, for learning, and -Lunch box -Stuffed animals
play! Afterwards, we divided into groups of two and
picked two products to develop paper models. -Pencil box -Rag dolls
                                                               -Book cover - Key chains
On day two everyone rose bright and early to create
samples! Dorothée chose to develop a simple girls’ -Alphabet learning ball
dress. Our handicraft trainer chose to make a or board
children’s tortoise bag, and her assistants worked on
book covers, bibs, and a shoe organizer. The room
 was abuzz with creativity!

On the final day, Dorothée assisted us in finishing all
of the samples (including a baby snuggie!). She also
created a look-book of all of our fabrics and
assembled over 200 color swatch matching
 templates for our future reference.

We are excited to welcome her back, if possible, and
to show our work at the Siem Reap artisans’ fair in
 January.

For information about our new line, please email

 samples on our Facebook album!

The Water Festival is both a celebration of water, and
it marks the end of the rainy season.

 Traditional Celebrations

Traditionally, the holiday is celebrated by the masses
in Phnom Penh, where there are fireworks, boat
races, and revelry. However, this year, the event was
cancelled due to the tragedy of recent flooding.
Nevertheless, Homeland put together its own
 celebrations for the children.

My Story Series: “When I Grow Up…” Photo Project

In September, we decided to ask all of our children to share their aspirations by answering the prompt: “When I
 grow up, I want to…”
At the end, one young girl asked Homeland staff to participate in the activity. This caught us off guard, but also
got us thinking – so we asked all of you to participate too!
This month, we are featuring some of the photographs taken by the members of the Homeland Club at the
Singapore American School. They did an incredible job on their photo campaign. Check out the full album on
Facebook. To submit your photo, email grace.zhou@mpkhomeland.org.
