Children’s Day
Bestarians celebrated Children’s Day on 20th November 2019 to honour all the little CEOs, junior
doctors, young entrepreneurs etc. The theme for this year was Superhero. The event started off with
the School assembly where the students showcased their performances, dressed up as superheroes.
Then they presented their academic booth to teachers and peers from other levels. As part of the art
activity, each student was given a gift where they were able to flaunt their artistic talent. All were
excited for the cake cutting ceremony where they enjoyed the delicious ‘Superhero’ themed cake. A
tele-match was organised to mark the end of the remarkable event. Overall, it was an entertaining day
not only for students but also teachers.

TED talk sessions at SBIS work under the slogan “Ideas worth spreading” and are mainly about
Technology, Entertainment and Design as the acronym goes.

Year 1 students watch a video “Ripple” to learn about the core values in GRIT which are Gratitude,
                            Resilience, Intentional Inconvenience and Teamwork

Little Author
From “Author- Who, me?” to “Yes, I can be one too!” This was the outcome of “The Little Author
programme” at SBIS. It was a platform where students got to showcase their writing skills. Students
learnt directly from Ms. Lim Lay Koon, a renowned author who was invited to teach the students the
ways and procedures of writing books of their own. As they were transported into the wonderous
world of books, they also discovered the joy in writing their own story and not only and rejoiced being
little illustrators.

As part of ‘Going Places!’ In IEYC, the little Bestarians had so much fun finding out what
happens in an airport and on board. The entrance to the classrooms were converted into a
‘Departure Hall’ with a ‘luggage scanner’ and an ‘immigration officer’ on duty. With the help of
pictures and pretend play, the learners were able to recall and recognize significant parts of the
airport.

Mandarin & HSK Results
 Learning Mandarin is crucial at SBIS for both Primary and Secondary students. HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi;
translated as the Chinese Proficiency Test) used in China is therefore incorporated into our academic curriculum.

                                                                       Primary Mandarin

sales by Artist Hub
Artist Hub members came together to bake and sell gingerbread cookies and hot chocolate on sticks
to raise funds for Artist Hub activities during Christmas 2019. They even created gingerbread houses
that buyers could assemble at home with their family and friends. What an apt Christmas gift idea!

Artist Hub members learnt how to do photoshoots - through virtual conferencing! It was a fun
challenge, trying to direct models to pose accordingly while trying to make use of the lighting at
home, with the webcam as the camera and the laptop screen as a viewfinder for the photographers.
Definitely an experience the members can find useful in the future!

Christmas Celebration
Christmas is the time for sharing, forgiving, and blessing. This time around, the in house Christmas
celebration at SBIS was even more special as we invited ULC students to come to our school to
partake in our celebration. We shared quite a few beautiful moments with those less fortunate
refugee children and hope that we impacted them with love.
