SAUDI ARABIA
Current state of Saudi Arabia’s market
It is estimated that Saudi Arabia will need to more than double its power generation
capacity by 2040, so the government is focused on installing additional capacity and
distribution infrastructure. Saudia Arabia is also planning to increase energy efficiency and
decrease energy subsidies, which are planned to be eliminated by 2020. The reduction of
these subsidies will mean higher electricity costs for consumers and businesses, but it is
also expected to produce more demand for energy efficient services, products and
      technologies.

According to IMARC Group’s latest report titled, “Saudi Arabia LED Lights Market:
Industry Trends, Share, Size, Growth, Opportunity and Forecast 2018-2023,” various
measures are being taken by the Saudi Arabian government to encourage the use of LED
lights. The country has adopted global energy-efficiency standards and increased tariffs
on the imports of incandescent and compact fluorescent lights. This is expected to
increase demand for LED lights, which have already started to be used in commercial and
      industrial settings across the nation.

UAE
Current state of the UAE market
Growth in the UAE’s infrastructure development, entertainment sector and
commercial establishments has made the region the leader in the LED market in
the Middle East. The UAE banned the sale of incandescent bulbs in 2014, which
forced existing bulbs to be replaced with LED or similarly energy efficient bulbs
in all residential, commercial and industrial uses. Lighting products must also
meet government regulations for safety, performance, safe disposal, and
      certification and registration requirements.

JORDAN
      Current state of Jordan’s market
The Kingdom of Jordan currently imports more than 95% of its energy resources.
Overall energy consumption has been steadily increasing. The country has also
welcomed large amounts of Syrian refugees, which has resulted in increased
electrical usage. The government is focused implementing energy efficiency
programs, introducing tax exemptions for energy efficient products, and
replacing public lighting infrastructure with more energy efficiency bulbs.
Jordan’s National Green Growth Plan was recently approved by the government.
The plan promotes the development of renewable infrastructure and the use of
renewable energy and energy efficient products.

New opportunities
Jordan introduced a National Energy Efficiency Action Plan
in 2013 to focus on adapting existing lighting systems and
energy infrastructure to more energy efficient systems. The
plan includes replacing conventional light bulbs and
mercury street lamps with energy efficient LED options.
Jordan also plans to use automatic controls and voltage
regulators. Wherever possible, these efficient systems are
being developed to run on solar or wind energy.

New technologies
Jordan plans to use automatic controls, which will allow
facility managers to oversee all LED lighting systems,
energy usage and lighting from a remote location. The
controls will also allow managers to turn off any unused
lighting. Industrial and commercial projects will follow
Lighting Power Density recommendations, which will
calculate the watts of lighting per square foot of room floor
area and allow for suggested ways to save energy in a given
space.

Jordan is focused on
implementing energy-efficiency
programs, introducing tax
exemptions for energy-efficient
products and replacing public
lighting infrastructure with
more energy-efficient bulbs.

Major projects
Jordan’s government has a five year plan that focuses on
investing in energy, transportation, water and solid waste
infrastructure. There are also plans to develop the King
Hussein Bridge Crossing Terminal, and a street lighting
project in Amman.

Future outlook and trends
Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources
developed a National Energy Strategy which focuses on
developing domestic energy resources, achieving 20
percent energy savings by 2020 and replacing traditional
light bulbs with energy efficient versions.

LEBANON
      Current state of Lebanon’s market
Lebanon’s electricity generation capacity does not currently meet the country’s
demand. According to the United Nations Development Programme, the
country experiences power outages of three hours each day in Beirut and up to
twelve hours in other areas of the country. Lebanon currently hosts an estimated
1.5 million Syrian refugees who have added additional strain to the regions
electricity demands. Due to these issues, the market is focused on decreasing
energy consumption and stabilizing the existing electricity system.

Most public street lights in Lebanon use incandescent, metal halide bulbs or High
Pressure Sodium bulbs. The country has insufficient funds to adapt existing
lighting infrastructure to more energy efficient systems, which results in higher
energy and maintenance requirements. In areas using these old technologies, a
municipalities street light usage can account for 30-50 percent of the entire
      energy consumption.

EGYPT
      Current state of Egypt’s market
Egypt’s power sector has an inadequate supply to meet the rising consumption
of electricity across the country. Data from the World Bank's World Development
Indicator shows that per capita electricity consumption has increased at an
average annual rate of 5 per cent for the past decade. After the Egyptian
Revolution in 2011, power shortages have become frequent. Due to these
energy issues, the government is focused on using energy efficient lighting
solutions and switching to the use of LED light bulbs.

PAKISTAN
      Current state of Pakistan’s market
Pakistan has also seen a rising demand for electricity. Due to an ageing power
infrastructure, electricity shortages and rolling blackouts are a common
occurrence. The country started retrofitting public street lights and lighting
systems in 2014 in an attempt to reduce energy consumption. It is expected that
more that 100 million incandescent streetlights will be replaced by LED lights by
