We hand-pick our Host Families, visiting their

OUR homes and ensuring that they have up-to-date
police checks. We try and make the best possible

HOST FAMILIES
matches between students and families to ensure
that they all have a great summer experience.

Many of our Host Families have children of their
own whilst others have grown-up children who
live away from home. Either way the Host Parents
are welcoming and children staying with them are
made to feel welcome and comfortable.

During the week students have breakfast with the
Host Family before they leave for school. Some
Host Families drive the children to The Lady
Elizabeth School and others use the bus service.
Families provide the students with a snack and a
drink for break time and lunch is provided by the
                school.

The evening meal is had with the Host Family and
on many occasions Host Families get together with
other families to have BBQs or social gatherings
where students can see their friends from school.

We offer 24-hour assistance and pastoral care for
our families and the students staying with them.

We know and trust our families and the best
testimonials that we have are that students want to
repeat with the same family year after year.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMME
SUMMER SCHOOL 2020
ENGLISH
LANGUAGE
Students sit an English examination upon arrival at Summer School and are put into
groups based on the exam result. There are generally four levels, Beginner,
Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate and Advanced. Special consideration is given to students
who are looking at passing a Cambridge or equivalent exam and they are put into a
class with others who have the same aim.

English is taught in a relaxed environment with a lot of emphasis on speaking activities.
Students work in pairs or small groups to build confidence and fluency in real life
scenarios. They develop skills in thinking, reading, writing, listening and speaking
in English. Class sizes are small so that teachers are able to give students individual
support and help during the lessons.

Group activities include University Challenge, Running Dictations, Quizzes, Student
Presentations and Debates. These activities encourage students to work in teams and to
have fun whilst learning.

The course includes snorkelling for fish identification
and looking at the characteristics of Mediterranean
habitats. Students will visit local marine parks,
Mundomar and Oceanographic to investigate dolphin
communication and animal training. They will also
kayak to look at the plate tectonics and coast formation
and spend time sailing to help them to understand
ocean currents and meteorology.

The course is an exciting introduction to Marine Science
and is very practical. Much of the student’s time will be
spent in and on the water, conducting research. This
will then be combined with classroom activities where
they will collate their findings, conduct experiments
and through the dissection of marine animals,
invertebrates and fish, find out about respiratory systems
and diffusion along with other facts about animal
physiology.

The Creative Writing Summer School Programme is designed for students of all levels and

Workshops will introduce students to all phases of the writing process, including idea

students through the different stages until both student and teacher are happy with the
outcome. Students will explore different genres of creative writing and look at the work of
different poets, short story authors, playwrights and lyricists.

ART & DESIGN
Students who like art and to be creative will love spending their summer working on some great artistic projects
                 based around the fortnightly themes.
Their chance to shine will come at the end of the course when their work is displayed for parents and other students

@SUMMER SCHOOL to see. They will have the choice of different mediums and will work on one major piece to take home with them.
There is nothing nicer for artistic and creative people to spend time with like-minded people pottering in an art room.
WOODWORK Learning outcomes include:

                                                                                              • Being creative using raw materials

In 2020 we have included woodwork in the programme to give students the opportunity to
learn new skills and to complete a small woodwork project to take home. They will learn
how to use basic woodwork tools under the supervision of an experienced carpenter and
woodwork teacher. Over the two week period they will manage their own project and enjoy
seeing the final outcome. Children love to create and there is nothing more satisfying than
working on a project from start to finish.
Some students like to try a combination of activities
and don’t want to focus on just one. For that
reason we offer English combined with multi-

      ENGLISH &
MULTI-ACTIVITIES
activities. Students will do four lessons of English
per day and four activities. The activities include:

• Sport & Games
• Cooking
• Art
• Performing Arts
• Swimming
• Robotics
CHALLENGE YOURSELF
Outdoor activities are a big and challenging part of Summer
School. The perfect weather along with being so close to the
Mediterranean makes water-based activities ideal for students.

they venture out of the school
ACTIVITIES once a week to participate in
                                                    activities which include Stand Up
Paddle, Kayaking, Snorkelling, Inflatables and Sailing. Land-
based activities are also enjoyed by students and they will love
Mountain Bike Riding, Orienteering and visiting a local ropes
                     course adventure park.

During the normal school day students will participate in a
number of workshops and activities as well as their regular
lessons. Yoga classes, circus skills workshops, film-making
                     and public speaking
                     workshops, woodwork and
                     crafts workshops are all

                     come away with a wealth
                     of new and exciting skills.
                     Many new challenges await
them and the opportunity to spend time with new and old
friends doing fun and exciting activities and workshops is
one that will provide lasting and fond memories.
SOCIAL EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
@SUMMER SCHOOL
Students, staying with a Host Family or in the Boarding
House, visit one of the local theme parks in Benidorm
each Saturday. They get to spend time with their friends
whilst having loads of fun at either Terra Mitica or
Aqualandia.

Thursday evenings after school are social evenings,
a great opportunity for students to get together for a
disco, a film night or a BBQ and games. On the last
Thursday of each fortnight students celebrate the end of
the course with a dinner and prize-giving gala. This is
the chance for students to dress up and enjoy a relaxed
night with their newly-made friends.
