ISSUE 10! 3rd February 2017! This week a group of our Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 dance students took part in the largest national dance competition open exclusively to schools. The vision of the competition is to create an exciting competition bringing together children of all ages and abilities where the emphasis is on having a good time. Well, our girls certainly did that. BBG Academy’s KS3 entry was a contemporary piece which was choreographed for a performance evening about war and peace. The dance idea comes from the current issues of child refugees in Syria and focused on communicating different relationships. BBG Academy’s KS4 entry was another contemporary piece that was collaboratively choreographed by the students and teacher. The dance idea was based around negative body image with movement material inspired by the lyrics from the song ‘Body Love’ by Mary Lambert. The Key Stage 4 piece was a very moving tribute to Ellie Bramham. The girls were a credit to the academy. Well done to all students involved, a fantastic achievement: Year 7 - Ellie Needham, Aime Hall, Rebecca Wood, Olivia Jones, Summer Hayes, Ellie Ball, Zoe Cole, Jena Clough, Emma Maleham, Ella Fahy, Evie Morley, Alarna Hamilton, Ebony Ramm Year 8 - Paige Evans, Brooke Shaw Year 9 - Georgia Quinlan, Beth Maleham, Ruby Fletcher, Melissa Gray, Amelia Scully Year 10 - Elizabeth Pickett, Ellie Tutt, Gabi Hanson, Charlotte Palmer, Ella Mackowski
subject news! RESILIENCE! Here are some examples of Superheroes designed by Year 7 in Resilience. Charlie Woodward 7ZSE. “This is Super Dad, he can teleport and fly. His fists turn to metal and when he presses his SD badge, he has night vision” Florence Duggan. - 7ZSE “Frozen Girl can freeze people but not fire. She can freeze enemies with her stare. She can climb up tall buildings” The imagination displayed by Year 7 has been fabulous to see. They have really embraced the challenge of creating a resilient superhero. Next step is to develop their literacy skills by creating a story about their characters. Kamani St Hilaire – “This is Super K who can fly, has both x- ray and night vision. He has flashing lights to show danger. He has super strength, speed and is flexible. He helps other superheroes and saves anyone who needs his help”.

subject news! MATHS! We are pleased to announce that almost 100 students from the top maths sets in Years 9, 10 and 11 have all experienced exciting maths with the UK Mathematics Trust Intermediate Maths Challenge. They sat the challenge on Thursday 2 February 2017 and will find out their results in a few weeks’ time. The UKMT Individual Maths Challenges are lively, intriguing multiple choice question papers, which are designed to stimulate interest in maths in large numbers of students. The three levels cover the secondary school range 11-18 and together they attract over 600,000 entries from over 4,000 schools and colleges. The papers contain 25 multiple choice questions. Of these, the first 15 are more accessible, whilst the final 10 will provide more food for thought. Gold, silver and bronze certificates are awarded to 40% of participants nationally in the Junior and Intermediate Challenges, and 60% of participants nationally in the Senior Challenge. The most successful participants at each level are invited to enter follow-on rounds; Kangaroos (multiple choice questions) or Olympiads requiring full written answers. NETBALL Another success for BBG Netball this week with two wins for the Year 7 A and B teams against Heckmondwike. The A played the first match and got off to a flying start with a 5 goal lead. Heckmondwike managed to come back with a couple of goals before half time, but despite countless interceptions from centre, Summer Haynes kept them at bay. The second half got off to a slower start but with a second wind BBG finished in style 11-4. The second game was a close match between BBG B team and Heckmondwike, with only one goal scored throughout. It was an evenly matched game with the girls working tirelessly to keep the opposition from scoring and relentlessly transitioning from attack to defence. The girls showed great resilience by maintaining their 1-0 lead in the second half. Well done and keep up the hard work! REPRESENTATIVE HONOURS We are delighted to share the fantastic news that seven of our students have been selected to represent District teams in Netball.
