Veterinary nurses and
Veterinary care assistants
Our exemplary team of veterinary nurses and
veterinary care assistants are the backbone of
our practices.
Due to the size and vast array of species that
SVG looks after, our nursing and veterinary care
team are constantly kept on their toes.
Our veterinary nurses have a vast expanse of
knowledge between them, with many having
their own particular interests and specialities.
Some of our nurses have a keen interest in
exotics and farm and equine, whereas others
prefer small animals, including best breeding
practices and puppy training classes. We really
do offer an incredibly varied workload at SVG
and are keen to harness any particular interests
and specialities our members have.
The role of the veterinary care assistant really
has changed over the years, with many of
the responsibilities previously undertaken
by veterinary nurses now being under the
veterinary care team. The primary task of
the veterinary care team is to look after the
patients that are admitted under our care,
ensuring they are clean, comfortable and made
to feel at home at times when they can be in
severe distress.
The great thing about being in the veterinary
care team at SVG is the opportunity to progress
and qualify as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
through our sister company the Central College
of Animal Studies, where your workload is split
between the practice and the classroom.
SVG could open the door to your dream career!

If you are more of a night owl than an early

night veterinary nurse might be the perfect fit
for you.
On the night shift, our night veterinary
surgeons and veterinary nurses care for
the practice’s in-patients, continuing their
treatments as needed, as well as taking on
the wide range of emergency cases that might
come through our doors.
Many veterinary surgeons and nurses enjoy
working night shifts as a fantastic opportunity
to build their career. By working regular night
shifts they often see better case continuity,
with the great satisfaction of seeing an animal’s
treatment through from start to finish. Those on
the night shift may see many different aspects
of veterinary medicine which they wouldn’t
normally encounter on a daytime schedule.
Although many shifts see our teams working
through the night, our practices each include
overnight accommodation for when there is
opportunity for rest. Our kitchens are kept
stocked with snacks, teas, coffees and other
refreshments to keep them going throughout
their shift.

As one of the largest independent groups of

There are endless opportunities for you to
expand your knowledge and improve your

of the key areas of responsibility within this

advice and knowledge to ensure their exotics

Our practices are fully equipped to deal with
