Pastor David Jones Associate Pastor Richard Peck July 2018 “We exist to love and know God more deeply, to grow more like Jesus each day, and to reach the world in the power of the Holy Spirit with the message of the Cross and the Resur- rection beginning in the Mulberry community.” Make His Place Your Home Baptist Home Family Welcome to July! July is always an exciting and busy month for us at Baptist Home. We begin the month in celebration of our nation’s birth and have the opportunity to share in exciting events that can change people’s lives for all of eternity.
As you know one of those events is our upcoming VBS. VBS is certainly a time of great excitement but also a time of great opportunity. We have the opportunity not only to open our doors to the community but most importantly to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with our community. I know that tremendous effort and work goes into planning, preparing and then implementing VBS. But I trust that once again we will be able to see the results of what sharing faith will do. Please be in prayer for all those who will be involved in VBS, but especially for those who will come to our church. Pray that hearts and lives will be impacted for the Kingdom of God, and most of all that people will come to know Jesus as their Savior. Another event that you will certainly want to take advantage of is the Carolinas Evangelism Conference. This conference is July 25-27 and will take place at the Mtn. View Baptist Church in Maiden NC. Each evening, the van will be available for you to ride with your family and friends. The conference features many of the great preachers of our day, music that will up lift and stir your hearts and an atmosphere of praise and worship that is almost indescribable. This conference is certainly one of the highlights of our year and we look forward once again to see all that the Lord will do. Don’t miss out! You will be blessed. In closing let me just take a personal privilege to say, “Happy Anniversary”. Tammie and I will celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary on July 25th . How I praise the Lord for the amazing love of my life, and for the amazing partner in ministry that God has blessed me with. I know I am very fortunate and blessed to have Tammie as my wife. Thanks for 31 blessed and exciting years together. “I love you, More!” I am looking forward to seeing you this coming Lord’s Day. Don't forget our new summer schedule ... Sunday School @ 9:00 and Worship at 10:00. It's going to be a blessing!
God Bless, Pastor David Jones
As I write this newsletter section this month, I am on lo- cation at MFUGE 2018, where this year’s theme has been The Mission. Based upon Acts 1:8, students have been taught well this week that being a Christian means being on mission. Jesus said that His disciples will be His witnesses to everyone on earth, so the mis- sion of God is an unavoidable part of following Him. Students have studied the book of Acts focusing on the life of Paul as a follower of Christ who devoted him- self to the mission that Christ gave him after he was radically converted on the road to Damascus. In fact, Paul’s perspective on the purpose of his life can be summed up in his own words, where he says, But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus – the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God. (Acts 20:24, NLT) Imagine if every person who claims to fol- low Christ had that same perspective and devoted their life to fulfilling the mission that God gives each and every believer He redeems through the blood of Jesus. Paul accepted his mission wholeheartedly, he lived out that mission every day of his life, and he faced roadblocks to fulfilling the mission that he overcame through understanding his identity in Christ. As we heard as camp this year, “To be Christian means to be on mission”. It is an understanding that wherever Iyou go – school, work, the grocery store, sports practice, eve- rywhere you go throughout your day, you are being sent by God there as a missionary to proclaim His good news to anyone who will listen. Whether it was painting, cleaning, yard work, teaching children, serving in nursing homes, students have served well this week. But mission is more than doing good deeds, it is sharing Christ while doing good deeds. And some students had those opportunities this week, and they seized on those opportunities. Praise God for His mission, and the promise that He will be with us if we obey His call. He has given us the church as the community to help us live out the mission, but it requires us to not just say that we believe in Him and will share Him with others. We must put ac- tions to our words and obey His call. It will be challenging, and students have wres- tled with that this week. But praise God, He is always faithful to His mission! Hometown Kids July 2018 Greetings! Thanks so much to everyone who supported us financially and through your prayers while we were at CentriKid Camp. It was a great week. We took 9 children (Mady Hoover, Ellie Smith, Kirstin Miller, Kristen Boles, Ashley Battle, Joshua Furr, Micah Cayton, Ben Wyatt, and Elijah Smith) and 4 adults (Misty Hoover, Juanita Miller, Adam Furr and myself). It was HOT! The days were L-O-N-G: Wake up was at 6:30 a.m. and lights out was at 10:30 p.m. and the in between was packed full of worship, Bible study, Recreation, Track Time (this is where they do a “class” of their choosing), meals, more worship, more Bible study, church time and finally a little tiny bit of free time before bed.
Before we leave for camp, the kids and I talk about the purpose of camp. I am ALL ABOUT purpose in everything we do. Some people think we go to camp only for FUN, but actually that’s third on the list. Our goals for camp each year are: To draw closer to God To draw closer to one another, making memories and deepening relationships To have fun I’m happy to say, all three goals were achieved. It was such a blessing to see hands raised in worship to God as the kids experienced freedom in worship. I loved seeing the kids with Bibles open, taking notes and writing things that God spoke to their hearts about. It was wonderful to see the kids interacting with one another. I loved hearing them laugh and talk with one another and they now have this memory to look back on as they continue to come together at church. Fun is easy at camp. The camp staff makes it SO easy to have fun. Every little detail is geared to kids and FUN was had by all --- even the adults.
Each night in our church group time, I asked the kids to tell me the worst and best of their day. The worsts were brief….the bests were long and over and over many said that the best part of their day was our worship time. They loved the music. They enjoyed the messages and the scripture emphasis. They looked forward to going back for more. Isn’t that the way it should be? Oh, how I long for our kids to say about our church that of all the things we do, they love worship the best! We will be sharing more about our week on the evening of July 8th . I hope you will come and enjoy!
VBS is just around the corner! JULY 15-19, starting at 6:00 p.m. My office is overflowing with paper chains and twisted brown paper (aka jungle vines). I have fish and sloths and coral reefs and sand buckets and all manner of things! It’s a total MESS, but to me, it’s BEAUTIFUL because it represents an all-out-effort to show kids in our church and our community that they are important to us and to GOD! Our theme this year is SHIPWRECKED and how when our lives get all topsy-turvy by the waves of “LIFE”, we can look to Jesus and know that HE is our LIGHTHOUSE and we can know that HE RESCUES. During this week of VBS, we will teach the kids that no matter what is going on in their life, Jesus is there for them: When you’re lonely, JESUS RESCUES. When you worry, JESUS RESCUES. When you do wrong, JESUS RESCUES. When you’re powerless, JESUS RESCUES. Just a reminder, there will be NO adult classes this year. This frees EVERYONE up to help in some way if they can. If you can’t do anything else (I know some of you are physically limited), I invite you to come and pray during our VBS time. Our opening and closing times will be in the FLC this year, so feel free to make use of the sanctuary for prayer. Feel free to walk the halls and pray for the children and the teachers. Feel free to greet the kids as they pass from class to class. How wonderful it would be for the kids to have such an outpouring of love in their lives during this week! VBS is all about kids, but it’s not JUST for kids. Come and be involved and BE BLESSED!
