Ferry Road Closure -
 22.01.2018 Yorkshire Water are
 planning major works to their
 system, which will affect Ferry
 Road, South Cave. A Road
 Closure is proposed
commencing 22nd January 2018 for a four week period.
Yorkshire Water will be arranging a letter drop to residents
 informing them of the proposals.

How is the Parish Council funded?
Every year the Parish Council sets a budget for the following financial year.
Taking into account all income and expenditure, the Parish Council then collects
the precept directly from ERYC. This amount is collected as part of the Council
Tax paid by all households in the Parish, and is detailed on the Council Tax
statements sent out by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The Precept 2018/19
The precept for the year 2018/19 has been submitted for a sum of £90425.
Reduced in 2014 and despite the raised cost of living, the Parish Council
maintained the reduced precept at £90425 for 5 consecutive years. The Parish
Council have been able to complete the usual running of the Parish Council,
such as street lights, grass cutting in the Playpark, Cemetery and King George's
Field, and the footway sweeper etc by financially maintaining works and
carefully budgeting for Capital Expenditure.

The Parish Council strive to deliver and improve the quality of life for the
residents of South Cave and will continue to represent residents throughout
2018.

SOUTH CAVE SPORTING CLUB BEER FESTIVAL 2018

One for the diary - this year’s Beer Festival event is on Saturday 23rd
June at the Bull field, home of the sporting club, off Church Street
South Cave. As usual, the event commences at 4pm and concludes at
midnight. There is a varied and delicious range of real ales on tap, plus
lagers, wine, cider, a selection of soft drinks and more! There will be
hot and cold food available for most of the event. For entertainment
there is live music from 5.30pm featuring several bands this year,
providing variety which caters for different tastes in popular music. All
that without an entry fee! May I remind those attending, however, that
it is a licensed event and, as such, it is illegal to bring and consume
alcoholic drinks not sold on the premises. If you would like to bring
your own seats and tables, however, feel free! Unfortunately there is
no space for vehicle parking. Come and join the organisers at this fun
event for the village. Proceeds this year will help in maintaining the
building and playing areas. Look out for the flyer nearer to the event
but get it in your diary!

Keeping you up-to-date with news in your area January 2018 - South Cave Parish Council
We are sorry to have to say once more that the Parish
Council and individual councillors have received a lot of
complaints about the amount of dog dirt all around the
village.

This is unpleasant to look at, to walk in and to clear up. If
you are observed allowing your pet to foul unsupervised
this is an offence for which there is a fine.

The village is very fortunate to have bins which are
accessible for all; dog waste can be put in any of the bins
which are emptied very regularly. There is no excuse for not
using the bins or leaving dog waste in bags and not
disposing of them this breeds germs as the bags act like
mini greenhouses as they become warm.

The majority of people love our village, take pride in its
Appearance and are responsible dog owners. Please help
the Parish Council to stop this unhygienic practice as we do
try hard to listen to and answer your complaints.

                Increase in Dog fouling…
The Bullfield at the Pavilion; in the village
provides a brilliant space for the whole village
to use for recreation, and every weekend the
Junior football club makes full use of it. In the
summer the Brownies and Scouts can also be
found there and during the week the nursery also make use
of it. Sadly, the field has seen a huge rise in the levels of dog
fouling recently and although adults and children are
making every effort to ensure their playing spaces are clear
they shouldn’t have to be doing that. Can we please ask
that if you are exercising your dog(s) on the field that you
clean up their mess after them? It isn’t fair that others are
having to do it nor it is hygienic for young people to be
playing in the space with the risk of the feet or other parts
of their body coming into contact with dog mess. Please
consider other – usually younger - people when using the
field and clean up after your dog.

Many thanks from all the young boys and girls (and not
so young) playing sport on the Bull Field.

EAST YORKSHIRE FEDERATION OF WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

                     2000 FLAPJACKS!

Just over three weeks before the event the office of the East
Yorkshire Federation of Women’s Institutes received a request to
provide flapjacks for the runners of the Hull Marathon and Stage
Marathon.
This was held on Sunday 24 September 2017 and approximately
1600 runners had signed up to take part. Some ran the whole
route which wound its way through the main streets of Hull and
Parks. Others ran in relays with teams of either two or four,
changing partners at the refreshment points.
When the EYFWI was asked to make flapjacks for the runners, we
realised that 2000 would be required to cover all the staging
points, as well as the finish. A huge undertaking! Immediately all
52 Institutes were contacted and asked if they could contribute.
And in true WI style, an overwhelming “Yes, of course!” was the
answer. Over 2000 home baked flapjacks were collected, delivered
to the Federation office, or taken to the staging posts, and given
voluntarily by the Members.
WI helpers positioned themselves at each stage of the Marathon as
well as the finishing post at KC Stadium, and after the runners had
received their medals they were offered a flapjack. These were
very warmly welcomed with cries of “awesome” or “I’m really
ready for that” bringing smiles to everyone present.
Once again, the WI provided incredible results and proved they are
“Inspiring Women”.
“Car Parking Nuisance” The blocking of footpaths causes an
obstruction for pedestrians, pram pushers, the elderly, mobility
scooters and the partially sighted, this practice is a public
                  nuisance and may be illegal

Bonfires and Chimneys

If you are being affected by smoke from the regular burning of garden
waste, or from chimneys and other fires, you may be able to resolve
your complaint by first talking to your neighbour to make them aware
                             of the problem.

An informal approach is usually preferable, as involving the council can
sometimes damage relations with your neighbours.

If you don't feel comfortable speaking to them directly at first, the East
Riding of Yorkshire Council have provided an example template letter
                        which can be located at
  www.eastriding.gov.uk/environment/pollution/air-pollution/smoke-
                           fires-and-bonfire

Please note: ERYC have legal powers to investigate and deal with
serious issues caused by air pollution, such as smoke and fumes. If
you’ve sent a letter and it hasn't helped to resolve the situation, or you
don't feel comfortable sending a letter, you can report a non-urgent
incident of pollution to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council who will
                               investigate.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM EVERYONE AT MIRES BECK NURSERY
We had a wonderful end to 2017 at Mires Beck. Our Christmas Fairs raised almost £1500,
Santa visited on his motorcycle, our annual pantomime was a chance for staff to dress up
and entertain the trainees, there was lots of fun at the Christmas disco and we held carol
singing in the wildflower greenhouse.

JOBS FOR THE GARDEN IN FEBRUARY

   2. Lay new turf provided the soil is not too wet or frosty.
   3. Prune winter-flowering shrubs that have finished flowering
   4. Divide bulbs such as snowdrops, and plant those that need planting 'in the

Historically the Playing field included an area for Children’s Play
equipment; in the event of a Play area being re-installed your
opinion is required on the type of equipment which would be
best suited to the area, your ideas may include a mixture of
seating areas for Adults and Children, or a Children’s adventure
course which would complement the newly installed Urban
Gym..
