KEY INFORMATION YEAR 12 2021 - St Hilda's
WELCOME
Year 12 is one of the most significant transition periods in a young person’s life. It is also
special time for families and the School community who share the students’ journey. As
Senior Students, who lead St Hilda’s, the girls have many responsibilities and privileges.

Year 12 girls will be instrumental in leading and supporting the cocurricular program. In
doing so they set the tone for a School that embodies excellence, respect, inclusion and
4 justice.

Year 12s are the foundation of House spirit and coordinate many House activities including
3 Interhouse sport, Arts Festival and House quizzes. They will continue to mentor their
House Sister and act as important role models for the Year 8s. The Class of 2021 will also
lead St Hilda’s in IGSSA sports, arts, drama, music and the expansive range of Senior School
clubs and committees. As an outward sign of their leadership status, the girls wear a Year 12
tie and jumper. The School, in consultation with the students also organise a leavers jumper
to be worn at key events and outside of school.

The St Hilda’s academic program includes Semester 1 Examinations in Term 2 and Mock
Examinations at the end of Term 3. A Parent/Teacher Progress report is followed by a
meeting at the end of Term 1, a full course report in Term 2 and a statement of results in
Term 4. SEQTA Engage is a vital tool for parents to track their daughter’s assessment results
for each course. Students who are tertiary bound will be informed of the courses available
across a variety of tertiary institutions and the scholarships on offer. They will also be
guided through the tertiary application process.

The Year 12 Pastoral Care Program focuses on supporting students as they navigate
Year 12 and preparing them for life beyond St Hilda’s. Through the program students are
encouraged to maintain positive relationships with their peers and families, and to prioritise
their physical and mental health. Year 12 Tutors also work closely with the cohort to promote
the social and emotional wellbeing of each student.

This year there will be many special events to celebrate the girls’ final year at St Hilda’s.
These occasions will provide an opportunity to recognise personal excellence,
acknowledge the girls’ contribution to the School and farewell the Class of 2021. I look
forward to sharing the year with the girls and their families.

    Craig Doyle
    Head of Year 12

    YEAR 12 BOARDERS’ FAREWELL DINNER

The Year 12 Boarders’ Farewell Dinner is a special boarding evening held on Wednesday 13
October. This dinner provides an opportunity for celebration and appreciation of the time
    shared together.

It is a time for the girls to take a trip down memory lane where fun and happy moments
are relived, a meal is enjoyed and emotional speeches are delivered. The Year 12s enjoy
looking back at the memories created in this special St Hilda’s Boarding ‘sisterhood’ while
looking forward to the next chapter.

    JUNIOR SCHOOL LUNCH

All Year 12 students that attended the Junior School are invited to attend a lunch with Junior
School staff on Monday 13 September. This is a lovely occasion to reconnect with some of
their old teachers and return to where their St Hilda’s journey began.

SCHOOL PRODUCTION

This year the School Production is ‘Legally Blonde and the first of three performances
begins on Friday 18 June. Many Year 12 students are involved in both the cast, crew and
band. This is a large commitment for the students and a highlight for many.

HOUSE SISTERS PROGRAM

In Year 11, the Class of 2021 were paired with a
Year 7 House Sister to help support younger
students begin their Senior School journey
and to develop leadership skills amongst the
older students. The Program enhanced unity
between the year groups and broadened
students’ support systems. It also gave the Year
11s an opportunity to practice empathy and
understanding. This year the Class of 2021 will
continue to meet and mentor their House Sisters.

YEAR 12 ST HILDA’S EXTRAS

COMMON ROOM

The Year 12 Common Room is a fantastic
space for the students to retreat. Here
the girls have the privilege of being able
to access a fridge, microwaves, grilled
sandwich machines and a kettle. They also
have access to their own photocopier,
inbuilt speakers for music, charging
locations for laptops and a variety of seating. A Year 12 student committee is responsible
for coordinating the maintenance of the space and liaising with the Head of Year.

FITNESS CENTRE PRIVILEGE

Year 12 students are able to use the fitness centre before school, during study periods
and after school if it is not being used for Physical Education classes. Girls can collect
a permission letter from the PE Department and are required to have one introductory
session to explain how to use all equipment. After this they are free to use it anytime as long
as they are with one other student, sign in and bring a towel and water bottle with them.

                                                                                                            9
GILL STREET CAFE

                                                                                                  YEAR 12 STUDENT INFORMATION 2021
Following the Semester 1 Examinations Year 12s are given permission to walk to Gill Street
Café during study periods, recess and lunchtime. Students are expected to sign out
before leaving campus and sign back in as soon as they return. They must wear the correct
uniform, including blazer. We trust that the Year 12s will follow these guidelines and hope
that they enjoy this special privilege.

PRIVATE STUDY

All students in Term 3 will undertake one period of private study instead of sport to assist
them in preparation for their examinations. Girls who study six courses do not have extra
private study periods but those who have elected to study less courses will be able to
work in the library during these non-contact periods. They will need to get their names
marked off as they enter the library or common room and work quietly to utilise this time.

DRIVING TO SCHOOL

Year 12 students with extenuating circumstances may apply to the Director of Senior School
for special permission to drive to and from school. Students who drive to school may not
park on campus as there is not enough parking space and there are several rules girls will
need to follow to be granted permission, including not accessing their cars during the
school day and never having other students in their car.

The role of TISC is to process
university enrolment applications by assessing applicants and ranking eligible applicants in
order of merit for each programme following the rules and criteria given by the individual
universities. TISC is a self-funded organisation and hence needs to charge fees for its
services. The TISC website is extremely helpful and it is important that girls familiarise
themselves with the key dates, as it is the ultimate responsibility of each student to ensure
they have, and will meet any pre-requisites and deadlines for applications.
TISC Important Dates 2021 can be found via
www.tisc.edu.au and it is important you navigate this web page to increase your
     understanding and note important dates.

There are important dates and it is vital to not leave things to the last minute as students can
miss out on important information or being considered for a particular course.

The on-time closing date (‘Early Bird’) is usually at the end of September. Please note that
this is the FINAL CLOSING DATE for a number of courses. At the time of publication, is the
     final closing date for;

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at Curtin and for Direct Pathway Medicine,
Dentistry, Pharmacy and Podiatry at UWA - you can’t apply for the Bachelor of Medicine,
Bachelor of Surgery at Curtin, or Direct Pathway place into Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy
or Podiatry at UWA after today. You can still change the order of existing Curtin Bachelor of
Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and UWA Direct Pathway Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and
Podiatry preferences on your preference list.

Midnight - Recommended closing date for lodging a separate application directly to ECU
for the scheduling of an audition or interview for the following courses:

     • Bachelor of Arts (Arts Management)

     • Bachelor of Music

     • Bachelor of Education (Secondary) – Music Education Major

     • Bachelor of Performing Arts – Performance Making Major
12
All students will be given a TISC Guide in Term 3 and during Year 12 Careers time staff will
utilise the computer labs to assist students with any queries they may have in this process.
Please remember that due to privacy requirements, teachers do not have access to check
student applications, it is the ultimate responsibility of both students and parents to ensure
     deadlines and requirements are met.

Once students have submitted their application they can change preferences as often as
they wish for no fee provided their courses are listed in the preferences prior to the closing
date (which may be the early bird date for some courses).

A letter from TISC is given to students (through the school) in mid-August to all Year 12
students. The letter explains how to start the TISC application.

Be aware that these instructions apply to the TISC website. On the TISC site, girls will put
in their application then receive the Universities’ Admissions Advice Letter, which will have
their Scaled Scores for ATAR courses, their ATAR, and messages about eligibility to the four
participating TISC universities. Access to the SCSA website, to get their exam and school
results and their combined course mark, is a separate
process. In the application process girls will undertake
     the following

     • Login with user ID and password

     • Answer all questions

     • Insert course preferences (codes) with up to six
       preferences in order

     • Declare all is true and correct

     • Pay application fee (online/phone/mail/office)

Until the application fee has been paid the application
     is not finished.
UNIVERSITY OPEN DAYS 2021 – WESTERN AUSTRALIA

These dates are not yet published, but will be provided to girls and parents in due course.
You are encouraged to sign up to each relevant university for email newsletters and
updates throughout the year so they can received specific, targeted information aligned to
their individual needs.

UNIVERSITY, TAFE AND PRIVATE TRAINING,
INDUSTRY AND OTHER ADDITIONAL EVENTS

In the interests of all girls, not all opportunities are emailed to girls as we understand
their demanding academic and curricular schedules. There will be many additional
opportunities to learn about universities and post-schooling destinations throughout the
year. As these events present themselves, the relevant information will be communicated to
students by the Head of Careers, Jodie Mellor via the Daily Newsletter, email or MS Teams.

PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES

Students wishing to apply for Notre Dame University, Bond University or other Private

ADVICE FROM PREVIOUS YEAR 12 STUDENTS

• Set up email that is not school-based, as this will be deactivated after graduation.

• Colleges require an academic transcript which students can request by emailing Linda
Hamilton in Academic Services when required.

• You must register reference request details to the Head of Careers via MS Teams before
staff members will be authorised to create a reference. You can then forward any forms
from universities/colleges which should be sent to referees as soon as possible so they
can customise response to support applications as best as possible.

• When choosing a college, research their website so you get a feel for the college and
their values. Then you can refer to these in your personal statement/interview.

• Get a passport/school photo as many colleges require these for the application.

• Go to as many open days or engage in as many online events as possible to increase
your understanding of the courses available.
