Welcome

Welcome to the Spring 2021 BWG Leisure Guide

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected everyone’s lives in so many different ways, including personal and
family leisure pursuits in and around our community. This guide has been prepared with the optimism
that certain leisure services will be offered to the residents of the community at some point. At the time
of writing this guide, all activities listed here are tentative based on current restrictions by the provincial
government, local health authorities and the guidance of our municipal leaders. Please take note that all
programs may be impacted by last minute decisions and/or cancellations. The safety of the users of these
programs, the staff who design and deliver them and the public at large will always remain the first priority.

Most of the drop in activities which you can usually access information on timing, costs and availability can
be found at the Leisure Centre website, www.bwgleisurecentre.ca. Please also note that many of the usual
activities such as leisure swimming, open gym and other drop in activities may be on a temporary hiatus
until further loosening of restrictions. Regretfully, decisions such as this needed to occur to maximize the
physical distancing requirements, and group gathering number protocols that are still in place at the time
of writing this message. As restrictions loosen, staff will begin to offer additional activities, which will be
publicized using the Town’s social media and website platforms.

Staff ask for your patience and understanding as we all navigate through this difficult time. Please be
assured, that staff are doing all they can with your and our safety in mind.

Yours in recreation,

Nick Warman
Manager of Recreation & Client Services

COVID-19 Safety Protocols

                        Safety
We are committed to keeping you safe and are taking the following
steps to reduce the risk of COVID-19 in customers and staff.
• We are providing extra training for staff and education for patrons about the
importance of hand hygiene, facemasks, respiratory hygiene, and cough etiquette.
Patrons are asked to use hand sanitizer upon entering the centre.
• Pre-screening for COVID-19: All patrons are screened for COVID-19 symptoms when they
register or pre-book for a program and upon entry to the building.
• Pre-shift employee wellness check: We are monitoring all staff for symptoms of
     COVID-19 prior to each shift.
• Physical Distancing: Seating in the corridors and program spaces have been arranged to
encourage physical distancing of six feet between patrons; please observe posted signs.
• Protective Screens: Plexiglass protective screens have been installed at the customer
service desk to protect patrons and staff.
• We are continuing our routine cleaning and disinfection procedures as these
procedures are recommended for protecting you from COVID-19: In each program
space and corridors, more frequent cleaning and disinfecting of high touch areas have been
scheduled, including tables, doorknobs, countertops, patron touch screens, and elevator
     buttons.
• Modified programs and activities: We are currently offering modified programs and
activities to ensure physical distancing is achieved and on guidance from the provincial
     government regulations.
• Reduced numbers in program spaces: We have reduced the numbers in each program
space to allow for physical distancing and on guidance from the provincial government.
• Pre-book use of a program space: We are only accepting patrons into program spaces if
they have pre-booked or registered for a program. This will help us with contact tracing if an
     outbreak occurs.
• We are encouraging patrons and staff to share all questions and concerns related
to COVID-19: Don’t be afraid to use your voice. It is okay to ask staff questions about the
implemented changes and ways to protect yourself and your family.
• We are staying up-to-date with the latest information from Simcoe Muskoka District
Health unit: The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is working to protect the health and
     safety of our community.

provision of:

Accessible Equipment/Facilities

of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
The centre includes a variety of equipment to improve accessibility including; automatic doors, wide
hallways, grab bars, an elevator and 360 degree turning radius to accommodate wheelchairs in re-
stroom areas.
Aquatic Centre
The Bradford Lions Aquatic Centre includes three swimming tanks; an 8-lane, 25 metre lap pool, a
leisure pool and a warm water relaxation pool. The leisure pool is heated to approximately 86°F and
the relaxation pool to approximately 91°F, which can accommodate those with muscular, circulatory
or neurological impairment who require warmer temperatures. The aquatic centre also includes ramp
entry into the leisure pool and chair lift entry to both the lap pool and the relaxation pool. A water
wheelchair is available for clients to use between the change room and the pool. The family change
room also includes a Hoyer lift and an adult change table to assist persons requiring transfer.

Inclusion Support
The Department of Community Services (Leisure Services Division) employs staff for summer camps
to work specifically as 1:1 inclusion support staff with children who have exceptionalities and/or a
disability.
Medical Needs/Medications
Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury staff do not provide any ongoing medical interventions or support
therapies (ie. injections, g-tube feeding, administering medication etc.).
Support Person Pass
Individuals in need of support to participate in a drop in program may attend with a support person to
assist them. If the support person’s sole purpose for attending is to support and integrate an individual
with special needs, access for the support person is free. The support person is required to be provid-
ing direct supervision. A Support Person Pass can be obtained free of charge for customers attending
with a support person. Present the card upon arrival and the support person will enter at no charge.
Forms are available at the customer service desk.
Program Registration with Inclusion Support
Contact is required with the specific supervisor (Aquatics Programmer for aquatic camps or the
Recreation Coordinator for day camps) in order to coordinate registration and specific needs re-
quirements. A participant profile form will need to be completed for all clients accessing this service
(this information will be shared with instructional staff only). The 1:1 support staff service is a limited
resource and is available on a first come first serve basis that is available for a maximum of one week
per child during the summer. Families who require support but do not disclose the needs of a partici-
pant prior to registration may be required to withdraw from the program if support can not be secured.
Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury refund policy will apply.

Adapted Programs
Specialized instructional programs are available in Aquatics that promote the dignity, independence
and potential of persons with disabilities. The Adapted Swim Lessons strive to meet the swimming
goals of individuals with identified special needs. All participants are required to complete a Partic-
ipants with Special Needs form prior to his/her first lesson. The form can be accessed through the
customer service desk at the Leisure Centre or online at www.bwgleisurecentre.ca

Fee Assistance Program
The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury supports that municipal leisure opportunities should be
available to all residents. Bradford West Gwillimbury residents experiencing financial difficulty due to
low income may request fee assistance for membership to the BWG Leisure Centre. An application
for assistance must be submitted. Criteria for eligibility is determined by annual income based upon
Statistics Canada Low Income Cut Off (LICO) table. Households that meet the criteria would be eligi-
ble for a reduction of the fitness membership fee at the BWG Leisure Centre.

A MESSAGE TO RECREATION PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS, PARENTS, GUARDIAN:
COVID-19 UPDATE

There is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting each one of us. Thank you for your patience
and understanding as we work to adapt to provide services for you and your family. Come April, while we
know that we will be in a completely different situation than what we are in now, we don’t know what that
situation will look like.

As we chart these uncertain times, it is essential that we follow the direction of the Federal and Provincial
governments, and the Ministry of Health, to ensure we take the necessary steps to keep our communities
safe and healthy. This means all pre-registered Recreation Programs listed in this guide are still tentative
pending further loosening of restrictions by the provincial government, local health authorities and the guid-
ance of our municipal leaders, and that programs may be impacted as a result, by last minute decisions
and/or cancellations. The safety of the users of these programs, the staff who design and deliver them and
the public at large will always remain the first priority.

We will communicate any information we learn and as always, we remain committed to providing you with
updates and information as we have it available to us. Please continue to watch your email inbox or visit
the Town website www.townofbwg.com/covid.

Things you can do:
• If you are showing any symptoms or not feeling well in any way, that you please reschedule your visit
to the Leisure Centre. We also ask that if you, a family member, or anyone that you have made contact
with has traveled outside of Canada, that you reschedule your visit to the Leisure Centre for a 14-day
   period.
• Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water any time you have been in a public
space and if you can’t, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 70% alcohol.
• Follow the general rules regarding social distancing and sanitization in public spaces.

Please remember that the Town of BWG’s biggest priority is the health and safety of our employees and all
of our customers.

Stay safe and help your community stay healthy.

A MESSAGE FROM THE BRADFORD WEST GWILLIMBURY FITNESS TEAM

As the COVID-19 pandemic has evolved, our department has continued to prioritize the health and well-
being of our employees, members and the community that we serve. As various other fitness centres/
gyms re-open their doors health and safety will remain a very important consideration for the BWG Fitness
Centre.

During these days of COVID-19, we understand that you may have several questions about how you can
return to the gym in a safe manner. We want our employees and members to feel confident when they
come back to work or workout.

In light of the pandemic, we have been highly focused on the changes we are making to operate more
safely in the future. For our employees, we are following newly established health protocols, providing
personal protective equipment, and implementing physical distancing working practices. In the Fitness
Centre, we have mapped a new layout of equipment to ensure physical distancing, ramping up our
cleaning procedures, limiting number of people in all areas and creating more opportunities to participate
virtually in both group fitness classes and online fitness coaching.

We cannot do this alone. More now that ever we need your support to ensure that equipment is being
wiped down after every use, physical distancing is being followed and that everyone is taking responsibility
for their health by staying home if you do not feel well or are showing any symptoms.

As we chart these uncertain times, it is essential that we follow the direction of the Federal and Provincial
governments, and the Ministry of Health, to ensure we take the necessary steps to keep our communities
safe and healthy.

We will communicate any information we learn and as always, we remain committed to providing you with
updates and information as we have it available to us. Please continue to watch your email inbox or visit
the Town website www.townofbwg.com/covid.

We understand that for many of you the gym has not only been a place to work out but a social gathering.
We need to ensure the safety of everyone and take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread.
We’re all in this together.

Stay safe and help your community stay healthy.
