Objective
To demonstrate how cattle are best judged for commercial relevance by taking into account both
the traditional values of conformation and the scientific values of EBV data, mirroring best current
commercial practice.
Eligibility
Bulls must have been born on or after 1st January 2019, have Beefbreeder, Breedplan or Taurus data
records and be from exhibitors who are members of the Signet Beefbreeder, ABRI Breedplan
programmes or Taurus Data. The bull’s Signet/Taurus Beef Value or corresponding Breedplan Index
must be greater than the breed average which will be verified by Signet, ABRI, and the Limousin Soc
as appropriate. Bulls must also be entered and compete in the breed classes.
Judging
The appointed judge, who has a commercial background in the UK beef industry, will be provided
with the figures for the animals and will take the Beef Values/Index figures and conformation into
account when reaching his decision.

                                                                                                 15

ANIMAL HEALTH REGULATIONS FOR CATTLE:
Exhibitors' attention is drawn to regulation (i) stating that:
In the event of new Animal Health Legislation being enacted between the date of preparation of this
Prize List and the date of the Royal Highland Show, then Exhibitors will be expected to abide by any
new conditions of that legislation.
(a) Brucellosis
Cattle from herds which are not under any restrictions may enter the Show. No movement
         permits are required.
Exhibitors must notify the Society's Official Veterinary Surgeons if any of their cattle calve or
show evidence of calving at the Show. The animals will then be placed in the approved
isolation boxes pending their possible early removal from the Showground. The decision of
the Official Veterinary Surgeons in such cases will be final and they will also have absolute
control of the boxes. Where an animal calves at full term a blood sample and a vaginal swab
will be taken and examined at an approved laboratory. If the Rose Bengal Test (RBT) and
microscopical examination of a smear made from the vaginal swab are negative, the animal
may return to the Show lines provided permission is granted by the Official Veterinary
         Surgeons.
WHERE AN ANIMAL CALVES PREMATURELY OR ABORTS, THE CHIEF STEWARD, OFFICIAL
VETERINARY SURGEONS AND DIVISIONAL VETERINARY MANAGER MUST BE INFORMED
IMMEDIATELY. THE ANIMAL WILL BE PLACED IN ISOLATION IN APPROVED
ACCOMMODATION, AND THE FULL RANGE OF SAMPLES (INCLUDING, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE,
A PLACENTAL SMEAR) SHALL BE TAKEN. THE ANIMAL WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE
PART FURTHER IN THE SHOW, AND ONCE FIT TO TRAVEL MUST RETURN HOME TO ITS
REGISTERED PREMISES, OR, ALTERNATIVELY, BE RETAINED UNTIL THE END OF THE SHOW
IN ISOLATION AND RETURNED WITH THE OTHER COMPETING ANIMALS FROM THE SAME
         PREMISES.
ALL OTHER BOVINE ANIMALS FROM THE SAME REGISTERED PREMISES WILL NOT BE
ALLOWED TO COMPETE FURTHER UNTIL NEGATIVE RESULTS FROM CERTAIN TESTS
CARRIED OUT BY THE VETERINARY INVESTIGATION CENTRE (RBPT AND MICROSCOPIC
EXAMINATION OF A VAGINAL SMEAR FROM THE ABORTED ANIMAL) HAVE BEEN
RECEIVED. THEY CAN BE RETURNED HOME WITH THE SUSPECT ANIMAL AT THE END OF
         THE SHOW.

(b) IBR (Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis)
Separate facilities will NOT be provided for cattle in the scheme's IBR Category.

(c) Notifiable Disease
Any animal which shows signs suggestive of a notifiable disease, e.g. FMD, B.S.E., must
immediately be reported to the Society's Official Veterinary Surgeons and/or Chief Steward
who will then inform the Divisional Veterinary Manager. All requests and instructions by
the Official Veterinary Surgeons, the Chief Steward or the Divisional Veterinary Manager
concerning the suspected animal must be complied with.

Entries will be made via the online entry system found at www.royalhighlandshow.org. All
exhibitors will be required to register a new account on the system before entering.

There will be no maximum number of stalls that exhibitors can book per breed (including
stalls booked for calves). Due to capacities within the Highland Hall each breed will have a
limited number of stalls and once threshold is reached for any given breed, applications will
be withdrawn and a waiting list put into operation.

Exhibitors are required to indicate how many stall they require to accommodate the animals
they have entered.

We wish to encourage Exhibitors to fill all the Stalls they book, whilst allowing them to make
a greater choice of the animals they bring to fill those Stalls. An Exhibitor may make more
entries than the number of Stalls they have booked, with the intention of making the final
selection of animals to be brought to the Show to fill all their booked Stalls just prior to the
event. Anyone who does not fill a stall/s with an animal will have that number of stalls
deducted from their allocation the following year (unless there is a veterinary reason for the
animal being unable to be shown)
