I love the chores, the bits and bobs. Not everything

disappointed if I had a perfectly functioning, well-

Four easy ways
to a greener
bathroom
Simple additions like sustainably-sourced
materials and water-saving appliances do the
work of reducing the environmental impact
of bath time for you. Try these …

Save water
The right tap can help you reduce the amount of
water you use by as much as 50%. IKEA bathroom
taps are fitted with an aerator that mixes in air, so
you use less water yet have the same pressure.

Cut energy
Cold-start technology means your tap can also
pull the plug on energy wasted by heating water
unnecessarily. The cold-start function featured
on several mixer taps in the IKEA range means
when the lever is lifted straight up, only cold
water is released. To kick-start water heating,
you have to twist the lever. A small change that
saves up to 30% energy.

RÅGRUND bathroom furniture is designed to
work hard in small spaces; it’s also built to last
as it’s made from bamboo. This fast-growing
natural material is sustainable and great to
use in the bathroom as it’s strong, durable and
moisture tolerant.
• RÅGRUND shelving unit $69 Clear-lacquered bamboo.

Recycle and reuse
Take a look at what things are made of. The new
OTTSJÖN shower curtain, for example, is made from
recycled PET bottles, reducing the consumption of
raw materials for a lower environmental footprint.

IKEA Museum, Älmhult, until 3 May 2019. It offers
a glimpse into the many ways people create homes
for themselves, often in challenging circumstances
                                          and environments.
‘During my career, I’ve filmed people fleeing from

we have of a home. A place where we, as human
beings, are supposed to feel safe. It was through
these journeys that the idea for making a film
investigating how we create home came up.
‘I’ve met people living on literally nothing, but
who insist on living poetically in a world that’s
constantly changing. That’s inspiring,’ he says.

Told in seven ‘chapters’, the film weaves its way
in and out of different dwellings around the world,
as contributors reflect on home and belonging.
It also draws on the ideas of time, our natural
surroundings and the vulnerability of human
existence. What makes a home? The question
lingers long after the credits end.

               CHERISH HOME
Interior designer Sarah lives with her husband Gigi
and daughters, Beatrice and Mathilde, in a two-
bedroom house that they restored on a quiet hillside
outside Genoa. ‘For us, it’s a space for savouring
time with family without distractions,’ she says. ‘It
took us three years to rebuild the house. We kept
the old shell of the building, which used to be a
dancehall during WWII, but completely re-did the
               interior. It isn’t perfect—for example, I’d like a
different kitchen layout—but we’ve put our love into
it. And it suits us. Each room bears the traces of our
               family, of precious everyday moments.’
