National Science and Technology Fair at Dante Alighieri
                                             (FeNaDANTE)

FeNaDANTE (from Portuguese for National Science and Technology Fair at Dante
Alighieri) is a Science and Technology Fair with the objective of disseminating pre-scientific
initiation research that has been developed by private and public school students across different
Brazilian and international locations. It is intended to foster the development of these projects
within the Basic Education institutions, enabling a greater involvement of students from across
various areas of knowledge.

Now in its third edition, the FeNaDANTE is the result of successful experiences developed
over the past decades at Colégio Dante Alighieri. In addition to FeNaDANTE itself, the
experiences encompass 22 editions of the “Science and Technology Fair - Dante InCiência,” held
every two years at the institution, as well as, 10 editions of the “Pre-Scientific Initiation Symposium
of the Scientist-Apprentice Program,” which has taken place annually.

Involving students in science-related activities, in addition to assisting them in learning
about science and making it part of their world, enables them to develop diverse competencies
and skills required for life in society. As such, FeNaDANTE may be considered an initiative that
is in tune with the current scenario of science education in Brazil and makes a relevant
contribution toward societal development in the areas of both science and technology.

We consider the encouragement of science and its dissemination to be of utmost
importance, especially in this very delicate moment for humanity, the Covid-19 pandemic, which
reveals the incipient character of citizens’ scientific education. Supporting initiatives like this one,
in which basic education students present their pre-scientific initiation knowledge to the school
and scientific community, can stimulate a greater appreciation of science on the part of more
schools and families. Additionally, these initiatives prompt greater stimulus of creativity, scientific
methodology, problem-solving and construction of scientific knowledge, which are fundamental
aspects for the development of young people and their acumen.
As a way to expand the available space and incentives for young researchers to engage
in science, the 3rd edition of FeNaDANTE will be international in 2021. This edition aims to
promote the meeting of talented students from all over the world, providing more territory for
dialogue and enriching the cultural repertoire of all participants.

To this end, and to ensure a safe environment for everyone involved, we plan to hold the
event in hybrid form, with Project Presentations occurring both online and face-to-face. As such,
we will be ensuring that all biosafety rules established by health authorities are respected and
followed.

The activities planned for the 3rd edition of FeNaDANTE - such as the Opening
Ceremony, the Face-to-Face and Virtual Evaluation Boards and the Awards Ceremony, among
others - will also happen both face-to-face and online (via a live broadcast), ensuring that all
participants have access to a quality experience of the event.

                                                Categories

       a) Leonardo da Vinci: includes projects with a defined problem question and
methodology, and that already HAVE OBTAINED results (either partial or total).
       b) Galileo Galilei: includes projects with a defined problem question and methodology,
but that may NOT have obtained results yet (either partial or total).
       c) Michelangelo (Scientific Catalyst): includes research proposals WITHOUT a
defined methodology and WITHOUT results (partial or total).

                                     What is required to participate?

   1. Be enrolled at the 9th-grade level or above, in a public or private institution.[1] [PPB2]
   2. Have developed a pre-scientific initiation project that uses a Scientific Methodology
adapted to the student’s area of knowledge or that utilizes Engineering Design (in the case
of the Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei categories).
   3. Be supervised by an advisor who is 21 years of age or older and who holds, at minimum,
       an undergraduate degree.
   4. Have developed the project either individually or in a group of three (3) students,
maximum. (in the case of the Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei categories).

Note: Project proposals included in the Michelangelo category may register to participate in
the “Scientific Catalyst” rooms (maximum of two (2) students per research proposal). In these
rooms, students who do not yet have a hypothesis or who have not yet developed the
experimental design for their research idea, will be able to present their initial research
proposals to the other participants present in those rooms (students, advisors and evaluators),
in order to obtain suggestions and new ideas, which may contribute to the next steps of their
research.

   2. Facilities and Platform

As mentioned, the 3rd edition of FeNaDANTE intends to adopt a hybrid model for the
activities planned. Thus, students and supervisors who wish to participate in the event in person
will take part in those activities planned for the premises of Colégio Dante Alighieri, located in the
city of São Paulo (at number 1061, Alameda Jaú) between the dates of September 20th to 25th,
2021. The activities will also be broadcast live to those who wish to participate online.

Specifically for the face-to-face research project presentations, the classrooms on Colégio
premises will be carefully prepared, ensuring maximum occupancy of the selected spaces and
that fit under the health agency recommendations in force at the time, during which the Fair is set
to occur. Those who opt for the online presentation will, in turn, be directed to virtual rooms and
able to follow a live broadcast of the activities happening in the classroom that corresponds to
their project. In this case, students will present their research via the virtual room. The evaluations
will be carried out by a mixed panel of researchers - those participating face-to-face and those
who are present online.

The official platform for the 3rd edition of FeNaDANTE will be announced at a future date.
As such, we kindly ask that participants stay attentive to forthcoming updates published on the
FeNaDANTE event website.

       4. Submissions

       Phase 1:

For projects in the Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei categories, the orienting
profesor must register the project data via the 3rd FeNaDANTE website at
https://www.colegiodante.com.br/fenadante/. (Note: only the orienting professor may submit this
registration). At the moment of registration, the participant will choose whether they would like to
take part online or in person (It is recommended that the group, by mutual agreement, choose
one of the formats offered by the fair. However, in case of disagreement, the group should contact
the FeNaDANTE team - email informed at the end of this notice - for the team to evaluate the
situation. It is worth mentioning that, if there is a need to change the format, chosen by the group
at the time of registration, notifying the FeNaDANTE via email will also be required. The team, in
turn, will analyze the situation and check the possibility of making the alteration). It is important
to note that, in order to guarantee the Fair’s compliance with biosafety rules, which may come to
be established at the time that the event is to be held (September 2021), students’ face-to-face
participation may be subject to cancellation. If such a scenario were to occur, the project must
then be presented in the online format. It is also worth mentioning that, at the moment of
registration, one of the mandatory documents - the Intellectual Property Waiver, under 18 years
old - will be requested, in compliance with the new General Data Protection Law (LGPD).

For projects in the Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei categories, it will be necessary to
submit in the registration system a Research Plan of the developed project, containing the
following sections: Summary, Abstract, Introduction, Justification, Question-Problem (ou
Problem), Hypothesis (or proposed solution) and Methodology by June 14, 2021. For projects in
the Leonardo da Vinci category, submission of the Results, Discussion (if any - may be in the
form of "Preliminary Discussions") and Conclusions (if any - may be in the form of "Preliminary
Conclusions") will also be required Note: Abstracts of the work submitted in this phase will be
used for the production of the Summary Book of the Event. For this reason, the cut-off date for
updating this section is August 21, 2021. All projects must contain the bibliographic references
used, based on the ABNT (from Portuguese for Brazilian Technical Standards Association)
guidelines.

For the Michelangelo category, orienting profesor must register the research proposal
in the event’s registration system, indicating the area within which the proposal ideally fits. The
available areas are: Agrarian Sciences, Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, Exact and Earth
Sciences, Human Sciences, Social and Applied Sciences, Engineering, Technology. (Note: only
the orienting professor may submit this registration). It is also worth mentioning that, at the
moment of registration, one of the mandatory documents - the Intellectual Property Waiver, under
18 years old - will be requested, in compliance with the new General Data Protection Law (LGPD).
In this category, all project members will participate in the 3rd FeNaDANTE via the online format.
Note: Abstracts of the work submitted in this phase will be used for the production of the Summary
Book of the Event. For this reason, the cut-off date for updating this section is August 29, 2021.

It is important to note that, for the three categories of the 3rd FeNaDANTE (Leonardo da Vinci,
Galileo Galilei and Michelangelo), each student is eligible to enroll in just ONE project (or research
proposal, in the case of the Michelangelo category). The teacher advisor[3], on the other hand,
may sign up to advise for more than one project (or research proposal, in the case of the
Michelangelo category).

It is also important to remember that projects (or research proposals) submitted outside the
registration dates will NOT be considered for acceptance.

Phase 2:

ALL remaining necessary forms (both required and additionals, available at
https://www.colegiodante.com.br/fenadante/) for the realization of projects registered in the
categories of Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei must be submitted in the registration
system by June 14, 2021. In cases where forms are not submitted on time, the project may be
disqualified. All files submitted must be in PDF format.

Similarly, ALL remaining forms related to participation in the 3rd FeNaDANTE in the
Michelangelo category must be inserted into the registration system by June 14, 2021. In the
absence of timely submission, the research proposal may be disqualified. All files submitted must
be in PDF format.

Phase 3:

By August 29, 2021, participants in the categories Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo
Galilei must insert into the FeNaDANTE registration system: i) A link to a video with approximately
5 minutes duration (inserted initially onto YouTube), which summarizes the project developed. ii)
An expended summary of the research (up to 3 pages), based on the steps described earlier in
this announcement (information detailed in “Phase 1” of submissions, above). It is important to
note that the expanded abstract has no cover, and the authors must be sentient of the rules
established by ABNT (Portuguese abbreviation for The Brazilian Technical Standards
Association). The file must be submitted in PDF format. iii) A PowerPoint presentation (or similar),
to be utilized during the event. The number of slides remains at the project authors’ discretion.
However, it should be noted that the time for presenting will be limited to 10 minutes. iv) Project
report (or article), which describes the project in a more extensive and comprehensive way. The
number of pages, in this case, remains the project authors’ discretion. The file submitted must be
in PDF format. v) Pages of the logbook used during the project: authors should photograph some
pages of the logbook (those considered most relevant to the development of the research,
according to the authors), and upload them in ONE FILE (in PDF format) within the event
registration system.

For the Michelangelo category, participants must upload into the registration system,
the presentation (in a PowerPoint file or similar) which will be used during the event and pages of
the logbook used during the project (optional). The number of slides in the presentation is at the
discretion of the project authors. However, it should be noted that the time for presenting the
proposal will be limited to 5 minutes. Following the presentation, the evaluators present will make
their considerations. The total time for the evaluators to present their findings will be limited to 10
minutes.

Note: The presentation (in PowerPoint or similar format) may be updated by the authors (in this
case, for all three categories of participation) until the day of the event, and the authors may use
the updated file at the time of their synchronous presentation in front of the jury. However, in the
event of any eventuality that prevents the use of the updated file by the authors during the
synchronous evaluation, the Organizing Committee of the 3rd FeNaDANTE will use the file
submitted by the participants in the registration system (that is, the file uploaded before August
29, 2021).

5. Project Evaluation

Phase 1:

For the categories of Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei:

5.1. Based on the Research Plan submitted by the authors, the projects will be subjected to a
pre-assessment process that is eliminatory in nature.

5.2. The Pre-Evaluation Committee of the 3rd FeNaDANTE will be composed of professors and
supervisors, employees of Colégio Dante Alighieri, who hold masters and/or doctoral degrees.

5.3. Evaluation criteria:
5.3.1. Creativity and innovation: creative research must support the investigation and propose
an original answer to the question raised. It is important to note that a creative contribution
presents an efficient and reliable method of solving a problem. It also is important to
emphasize that the role of the student in proposing the question (with creativity and
innovation) must be clear and evident.

5.3.2. Scientific Method and Engineering Design: In the case of the Scientific Method, the
definition of the problem must be clear and unambiguous. The hypothesis must be well
defined, and the methodology must allow for the execution of a possible solution to the
problem presented. Regarding the option of Engineering Design, the objective of the project
must be clear and relevant to the end-user. It is suggested that the solution presented be
viable, which includes considerations of affordability.

5.3.3. Depth: In this regard, it is important to ask whether the established goal has a
theoretical basis to support the project. Thus, the theoretical framework that the student
presents and the degree of knowledge that he/she expresses regarding the subject matter
    are important items.

5.3.4. Student skills and competencies: In this regard, the possible skills developed by the
student throughout the project will be observed, for example, those stimulating the
identification of facts, description of situations, data comparisons and experiment
    propositions, among other possibilities.

5.3.5. Clarity: The clarity of the project will be evaluated, that is, the delineation of objectives,
possible procedures used, the methodology established, among other points.

5.4. It is important to note that aspects related to writing and language use must also be carefully
inspected. Thus, it is important to observe whether the language used is suitable for describing
scientific work and whether it is aligned with the specificities of the research area. It is also
important to check if the content presented adequately reflects the work developed (or to be
developed).

For the Michelangelo category:

Aiming for a quality experience for all participants in the 3rd FeNaDANTE, slots will be limited for
this category. Should a high volume of enrollment be registered, it will be at the discretion of the
Organizing Committee of the 3rd FeNaDANTE to analyze whether or not an opening of new
vacancies may occur. It is worth noting that this category WILL NOT COMPETE FOR EVENT
AWARDS.

Information on the number of vacancies for this category, as well as on the forms and time allotted
for the presentation of research proposals, will be made available shortly through this very
document. We ask interested participants to stay tuned for new information to be released,
checking the FeNaDANTE website frequently: https://www.colegiodante.com.br/fenadante/

6. Finalist Announcement

On June 22, 2021, the finalist projects (in all categories) will be announced via the website
of the 3rd FeNaDANTE (https://www.colegiodante.com.br/fenadante/ ). We ask participants to
pay attention to the information to be released and to consult the FeNaDANTE website on the
day in question (https://www.colegiodante.com.br/fenadante/).

7. Confirmation of participation and registration of finalists

The confirmation must be realized via identification of the project (or research proposal, in
the case of the Michelangelo category), and not via participant names. As such, the participant
responsible for submitting the project (or the research proposal, in the case of the Michelangelo
category) must confirm their team's participation in the 3rd FeNaDANTE, should the team have
been selected as finalists. At that time, the name of the authors/advisors/co-supervisors who will
participate on the days of the fair must be informed.

All registration payment(s) must be made through the website www.sympla.com.br (Event - 3ª
FENADANTE. The fee is R$ 75,00 (seventy-five reais) PER PROJECT registered in the
LEONARDO DA VINCI AND GALILEO GALILEI CATEGORIES, and R$ 18.00 (eighteen reais)
PER RESEARCH PROPOSAL enrolled in the MICHELANGELO CATEGORY. It should be noted
that the amount collected with the enrollments in the Michelangelo category will be reverted to
institutions that support scientific initiation, the names of which are to be defined and disseminated
at a later date via the FeNaDANTE Organizing Committee.[3]

Fee costs must be paid by July 30, 2021. It is important to note that, to participate in the event, a
finalist project (or research proposal, in the case of the Michelangelo category) must be
represented by a delegation of at least 1 confirmed finalist student.
It is important to note, as well, that THE REGISTRATION OF A PROJECT (OR RESEARCH
PROPOSAL, IN THE CASE OF THE MICHELANGELO CATEGORY) WILL BE CONFIRMED
ONLY AFTER PAYMENT CONFIRMATION HAS BEEN MADE. Failure to pay the participation
fee within the dates stipulated in this notice will result in the disqualification of the project (or
research proposal) for participation in the 3rd FeNaDANTE.

The second call, for finalists of all categories, will begin following the confirmation period for the
first-call finalists, which starts on April 8, 2021. Second-call finalists must confirm their
participation and submit the registration fee payment by the due date of August 16, 2021, also
through the website at www.sympla.com.br (Event: 3ª FeNaDANTE).

8. Evaluation of finalist projects (for Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei categories)

8.1 The Evaluation Committee of the 3rd FeNaDANTE will be composed of professors and
researchers from different schools, universities, centers and research institutes in Brazil and other
countries, who are not linked to the projects presented at the fair.

8.2 In face-to-face and virtual rooms divided by areas (links and passwords for the virtual rooms
will be made available, at a later date, for students and advisors who choose this means of
participation), the projects will be assessed synchronously by evaluators knowledgeable in a
corresponding area. Such evaluators may participate in person, on school premises, or online,
also through the platform adopted (to be determined).

8.3 The evaluation criteria for the finalists in the Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei categories
include those mentioned in item 5.3, as well as:

8.3.1 Synchronous presentation of projects: using a PowerPoint file (or similar format),
students will present their projects in either physical or virtual rooms coordinated by the
3rd FeNaDANTE Organizing Committee. In these rooms, face-to-face and virtual
evaluators (as described in items 8.1 and 8.2 of this notice) will be present for each area
established at the event (as described in item 1 of this notice). The duration of the
presentation (which must be carried out, exclusively, by the students involved in the
project) may be, at most, 10 minutes in length and must summarize the most relevant
aspects of the research. Following the students' presentation, the evaluators will ask
questions related to the project (about 15 minutes in length - the questions must be
answered, exclusively, by the students involved in the research). The evaluators will also
be able to present suggestions for possible improvements to the research. It is worth
remembering that a live broadcast will be held of all the presentations in a given room, so
that face-to-face and virtual participants can follow all the discussions and evaluations that
occur.

8.3.2 Video: the evaluators will have prior access to the videos submitted to the 3rd
FeNaDANTE registration system by the participants. Thus, they will be able to view, in
advance, the work developed by the authors. As previously highlighted in this
announcement, the video must present, in a succinct way (up to 5 minutes), the project
developed by the students. It is worth adding that, in addition to being a means of
evaluating the project at the 3rd FeNaDANTE event, the video is one of the main
instruments for the dissemination, to the general public and the press, of research carried
out by students. Therefore, we suggest that the authors avoid excessively technical terms
related to the work, and instead use language that is more accessible to everyone. It is
also important to note that the advisor and/or co-supervisor may not participate in the
video. To reiterate, the video must be previously submitted to the YouTube platform, and,
in the registration system for the 3rd FeNaDANTE, the authors will submit only the link,
following the deadline stipulated by the Organizing Committee of the event.

8.3.3 Report or article: unlike the Research Plan, the report (or article) is the final product
for the research carried out. Its objective is to present a compilation of the principal data
related to the developed project. Thus, it is important that, as in the Research Plan, the
report (or article) language and writing be clear and appropriate. Additionally, it is
important that the report contain: a cover (with title and names of authors), summary,
abstract, introduction, justification, question-problem (or problem), hypothesis (or
proposed solution), methodology and references used (in the case of the Leonardo da
Vinci and Galileo Galilei categories). In addition to the "Discussion" and "Conclusion"
sections, the “Results'' section must also be presented in the case of the Leonardo
da Vinci category, considering that the project ought to have already developed these
steps (even if preliminary). Lists of tables, figures and abbreviations, glossary and
attachments are not mandatory, but can help in understanding the project. It should be
noted that the authors must also pay attention to the rules established by the ABNT
(Brazilian Standards Association). It is worth remembering that the 3rd FeNaDANTE
Organizing Committee will send these files to the evaluators ahead of time. Thus, the files
sent will be those submitted by the authors to the event registration system on or before
the deadline of August 29, 2021. Note: working copies, citations without references,
among other circumstances characterized as plagiarism, will incur the disqualification of
the project at the 3rd FeNaDANTE and the loss of any awards granted.

8.3.4. Expanded summary: as previously highlighted in this announcement, the file (in
PDF format) must have up to 3 pages and must be prepared based on the steps
developed in the project. The expanded abstract does not have a cover, and the authors
must pay attention to the norms established by ABNT. It is worth remembering that the
3rd FeNaDANTE Organizing Committee will send these files to the evaluators ahead of
time. Thus, the files sent will be those submitted by the authors to the event registration
system by the due date of August 29, 2021. Note: working copies, citations without
references, among other circumstances characterized as plagiarism, will incur the
disqualification of the project at the 3rd FeNaDANTE and the loss of any awards
        won.[LEV4]

8.3.5. Logbook: the logbook pages (selected and sent by the authors, ahead of time,
through the registration system) will be used by the evaluators, to support their
assessment regarding the development of the research.

8.4 The project presentation boards (both in-person and online), with the synchronous evaluation
of students (in-person and online), will take place between the 21st and 23rd of September,
from 6pm to 9pm (all times informed are Brasilia Standard Time - please, adjust your times
according to the time zone of your city and country). At the end of the synchronous evaluation,
the evaluators will complete an online form, provided by the Organizing Committee of the 3rd
FeNaDANTE, scoring the projects (as organized by category and area) on a scale of 1 to 5 for
each criterion established in item 5 of this notice ( 5 = excellent, 4 = excellent, 3 = good, 2 = weak
and 1 = insufficient). Additionally, the videos made available by the authors, as well as reports,
expanded summaries, logbook, and presentation (in PowerPoint or similar format) will also be
evaluated. The projects that obtain the highest score (by area in each category) will be granted
awards.

All participants will receive a certificate for the presentation of their work at the event.

There may also be extra awards from our supporters, accreditations to FeNaDANTE partner fairs,
as well as an invitation to publish the project in the InCiência magazine (developed by a
specialized team at Colégio Dante Alighieri). It is worth mentioning that, in case the project is
awarded credentials for FeNaDANTE partner fairs, all costs for the participation of such a
project in these events will be the sole and exclusive responsibility of its authors and/or
their families. We reiterate also that the projects in the Michelangelo category do not participate
in the existing awards offered at the fair.

Note: In the event of unforeseen circumstances, and as a consequence of which, participants in
the Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei categories are unable to present their projects to the
evaluators on the days and times stipulated by the 3rd FeNaDANTE Organizing Committee (for
synchronous evaluation), attempts at new days and times will be organized. If there is no
agreement (either due to the unavailability of the authors and/or the evaluators) on the new dates
and times, the project will be evaluated based on the documents previously sent by the authors,
which are: the videos, expanded abstracts, reports, logbook pages and presentation file itself.

For the Michelangelo category (Scientific Catalyst rooms), there will be no possibility of
participation by the authors at another time, if there are eventualities that prevent them from
presenting their research proposals at the time stipulated by the FeNaDANTE Organizing
Committee. This impossibility is due to the way these rooms are planned, that is: different
students, advisors and evaluators will meet at a certain point stipulated by the FeNaDANTE
Commission, at which time they will have the opportunity to present their ideas. Therefore, all
members of a certain class/schedule must be present so that quality contributions to each
research proposal presented be offered.

8.5 Popular vote: during the event, the final projects of the 3rd FeNaDANTE will be submitted to
a popular evaluation, made through social networks. Further details on this vote will be presented
to participants at a future point in time.
