there ever since, over 55 years!
Margaret was the Tower Captain at All Saints Church for 41 years 4th Lincoln (1st Nettleham)
and only retired from that post last year and at the tender age of
83 is still climbing the Tower steps to ring every Sunday as well as
practice night on a Tuesday. Margaret was awarded an MBE in 1995
for services to Bell Ringing and is one of the longest serving members
of the Lincoln Guild of Bell Ringers and highly regarded amongst her
contemporaries.
Throughout her years at All Saints Church, Margaret has been
a wonderful teacher giving support and guidance and will be sorely
missed; her knowledge and expertise is second to none and she is an
inspiration to us all.

‘The Great Get Together’
         - by Debbie Stevens
O n Saturday 23rd June, Nettleham Festive Market
committee member Debbie Stevens held her first
event aimed at bringing the local community together. It
was a fantastic day with representatives from various clubs and
groups from the village coming down to give out information on
what activities are available in Nettleham. There were delicious
handmade cakes and sandwiches as well as tea and coffee
available, free of charge. “I would like to thank everyone that came
along, including all those that gave up their Saturday morning to
help support the event, also, a special thank you to those that
donated cakes- they were amazing! We had the support of the Co-
op, Waitrose and Tesco who gave a donation towards the food.”
Debbie is also arranging a Christmas day meal for anyone in
the village that would usually be alone, please contact Debbie on
01522 807366 for further information and to book a place.

you might stand for the Council next year and

Apart from the main areas the Parish Council
is responsible for such as The Old School,
Mulsanne Park, Bill Bailey’s playing field, the
burial ground, etc., there are also many other
aspects of the village which the Property
Committee look after which are classed as
amenity areas.
The largest of these is the Village Green
which is a quintessential feature of village
life. Far from being a network of roads and
shops as it is now, in times past it was an
open green space and was once the location
for the village stocks used for punishing
troublemakers; a little further away on
Vicarage Lane a ducking stool was used in
the beck for disorderly women, scolds, and
dishonest tradesmen! In more recent times a
maypole would be erected for the traditional
celebrations of Mayday and the Burton Hunt
used to regularly start their meet on The
Green. These activities would have brought
the crowds out in force and happily people
still come to the heart of the village for
more pleasurable enjoyment like our annual
carnival in the summer and more recently
the first festive market held in December, not
forgetting delicious cooked breakfasts by the
Scouts twice a year. Remembrance Sunday is
also a focus every November for a collective
service at our War Memorial.

Let me introduce myself, my name’s Janet and I’m the arts co-ordinator Buddies Dementia Cafe 2nd Aug 10am – 12noon
at the Nettleham Community Hub. I have a studio at the Hub where Book Club 8th Aug 1pm – 2pm
I run mosaic classes and a variety of art projects. Within the next year Acoustic Music (stay or play) Sat 11th Aug 12:30 – 2:30pm
I am hoping to put together and run an arts project that will bring
together the Nettleham community, it will be in the form of a mosaic Family Crafts in the Hub
mural that depicts our community, what the Hub has brought and 21st July – 31st August Summer Reading Challenge
what it means to the village.
I am looking for people who would like to be part of this project, to
work alongside other people/groups…
   Mum/toddler groups … nursery/pre school. … infant school ….
Junior school. ….secondary school… Buddies group…. Luncheon club…
Hub users …arts/crafts people…you!
I will be asking the local children and schools to make some designs
depicting what the hub and the growth of our community cohesion
means to the good of all.
What I need to know is if you are interested; I can then get a feel
of the scale of the project, I would like to be able to involve as many
groups of people as possible, which will require a certain amount of
planning!
I intend to use my Tuesday mosaic group to assist with the coming
together of participants and installation…with all this knowledge I can
put together a proposal and apply for the funding.
Look forward to hearing from you, mob: 07716249786
