NewFest gives voice and visibility to the full spectrum of the LGBTQ experience by
championing films and supporting storytellers who inspire dialogue, shift cultural bias, and
empower our diverse community.

NewFest began in 1988 as a response to the AIDS crisis, when images of the gay
community were hard to find and often imbued with shame. Over 30 years and through an
evolving cultural landscape, we have grown into the largest convener of LGBTQ audiences in
New York City. Acceptance has come a long way since 1988, but we still have a long way to go.

Your support is invaluable. As a not-for-profit 501(c)3, NewFest relies on sponsors whose
contributions allow us to program events for all populations across NYC. From producing
film workshops for youth to creating conversations that promote understanding between
communities, NewFest educates, entertains and empowers audiences.

OVERVIEW OF OUR PROGRAMS
NewFest’s annual festival, monthly screening events and educational programs offer sponsors a variety
of opportunities to reach and support the LGBTQ community:

NewFest: New York’s LGBTQ Film Festival
Our signature annual event, NewFest is one of the largest, most prestigious LGBTQ festivals in the
world, with more than 140 films, panels and parties each fall. The 2019 festival will run October 23 - 29
and provides sponsors numerous ways to participate. (p. 3-4)

NewFest at The Center Presents
Addressing a new intersectional topic each month, this discursive series at the LGBT Community Center
invites audiences to engage with and respond to social issues through documentaries and narratives.
Each screening is followed by a talk-back and reception. (p. 5)

OutCinema
In partnership with NYC Pride, this celebratory three-night event during Pride Month in June
features films, Q&As and after-parties for packed houses of 500 at the SVA Theatre in Chelsea. (p. 6)

Summer Outdoor Series
In partnership with Rooftop Films, this multi-borough series features films and talk-backs at outdoor
venues throughout the city. (p. 7)

Coming Out Again
Revisiting LGBTQ history through iconic films and panels, this bold retrospective series is held at the
Quad Cinema. (p. 8)

A spirited three-night celebration during Pride
Month, OutCinema features a diverse curation of
films, Q&As, and after-parties for 500 revelers at
Chelsea’s SVA Theatre.

Presented in partnership with NYC Pride, the event
kicks off a highly promoted week of jubilant festivities
for the city’s LGBTQ community. Past OutCinema

SUMMER OUTDOOR SCREENINGS
NewFest partners with Rooftop Films to host pre-release screenings of upcoming LGBTQ films and
content in various outdoor locations in the city. This program serves all five boroughs, taking advantage of
the most beautiful venues each has to offer, including city parks, Coney Island, the William Vale Hotel
rooftop in Williamsburg and Greenwood Cemetery. After an exciting and successful first year, we are in
the planning stages for summer 2019.

NEW VOICES
FILMMAKER GRANT
Helping emerging filmmakers tell their stories

The New Voices Filmmaker Grant supports promising LGBTQ
artists. With the help of corporate sponsors and foundations,
filmmakers can get their work recognized, propel their careers
forward, and increase visibility for the LGBTQ community.

How It Works
NewFest invites aspiring LGBTQ filmmakers to submit short-form
projects through a nationwide open-call. After submissions are
reviewed by a panel of industry professionals, NewFest works
with sponsors to select grant finalists. Sponsors can tailor grants
to specific voices within the community based on their pillars of
support, such as youth, women, POC, trans, and non-binary
filmmakers.

CITYWIDE EXPOSURE
To attract greater awareness and attendance, NewFest uses bold marketing campaigns that cover social
media, PR, video and targeted advertising to promote our events. In 2018, NewFest heavily marketed
the festival through an additional outdoor campaign created by Ogilvy, which highlighted our brand and
LGBTQ representation throughout the city.

A dynamic ad campaign promoted NewFest on the Nasdaq, Reuters, and ClearChannel digital billboards
in Times Square over nine days, as well as on Taxi TVs, bus shelter, Link NYC stands, and phone kiosks
throughout key neighborhoods around the city.
