2 October News Flash: Oct- 2​ ​ Cleanliness Drive and Tree Plantation by YRC The YRC unit of the college organised the cleanliness drive and tree plantation on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.

Shree Rajinder Vij, a social activist and the president of the swimming association of Ambala was the guest. 56 students took an active part in the drive. Under the drive, the college campus and canteen were cleaned. The supporting staff and canteen staff were sensitised about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene​. Oct- 3​ ​Chess Championship S.D. College Ambala Cantt. Won the inter-zonal chess championship girls by defeating Arya Girls College Ambala Cantt. and Govt. College Ambala Cantt, the team members were Rimpy, Muskan, Bhawya and Sakshi. ​Oct -3​ ​ TED Talks TED talks were organised by the Commerce Department 15 Students participated and Piyush of BBA-I secured the first position and Vaishali Gulati of BBA-II, got the second position.

The judges Ms Heena Arora and Dr Satbir congratulated winners for their excellent communication skills. Oct -4 ​ ​Placement drive by ICICI Bank A placement drive was organised by ICICI Bank along with NIIT, for the post of the senior officer in the bank. 250 students gave the interview for the post, who were registered online for the same. Product manager, Aman Sahni made the students aware about the working of the bank. Oct - 5 and 6 Placement Drive by WIPRO A two-day campus drive was organised in the M.L.N. College, Yamunanagar by Wipro in which students from various colleges of Ambala, Kaithal, Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar participated.

21 students from our college participated in this drive and 9 students cleared the first round and 6 students - Himani, Parul, Ridhim, Surbhi, Tanmay and Sachin cleared the second round.


3 Oct-17 ​Students’ Union Elections ABVP waved saffron colour over a major part of Haryana in student union elections. The other prominent student bodies including NSUI, INSO boycotted the elections. Every party chose their class representative from every class which represented their party. Congratulating the winning candidates of students’ union, Dr Rajinder Singh,principal of the college said that he is sure that the winning candidates would further improve the educational environment of the college and bring students related issues to the notice of the office and get them implemented in the right manner..

Vandana Rana from M.Com. was selected the president by the party. Oct -22 ​Educational Trip An educational trip to Amartex Ltd., Panchkula was organized by the Management Association for the students of BBA, to give real exposure of working of an industry Assistant. Professor -Satbir Singh, Supriya and Indu Bala accompanied the BBA students on their visit. The students also visited Gurudwara Shree Nada Sahib, The Pinjore Gardens and Elante Mall​. Oct-21 ​ ​Braille Reading and Writing Competition The YRC unit in collaboration with The National Association for the Blinds organised a Braille Reading and Writing Competition.

Shree Anil Vij, Health Minister of Government of Haryana was the chief guest on this occasion.80 blind boys and 25 blind girls participated in this event. Participants came from different states namely Orissa, Uttarakhand, U.P, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Mumbai, Gujarat and Punjab. Oct - 22​ ​Declamation Competition on Gender Equality ​A Declamation Competition was organized by the women cell in the commerce digital room. CDR room was decorated with charts and posters. The students performed extremely well. Bhawya Bansal from B.Com - II secured the first prize and Pallavi Gulati from B.Com - I secured the second prize.

Oct- 23​ ​National Level Mathematics Exhibition National Level Mathematics Exhibition was organized by the mathematics department of the college. Teams from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Chandigarh took part in this. Participants presented their beautiful models, charts, working models etc. Dr RC Mishra (A.D.G.P.) Ambala Range was the chief guest. Vandana and Medha from the Thapar College grabbed the first prize. Oct-26 -Oct -29 Awareness about Durga Shakti App The members of the women cell spread awareness about women empowerment and the Durga Shakti App throughout the college.

They informed the


4 students about the Durga Shakti App and convinced them to download it. 650 students downloaded the Durga Shakti App. Oct - 29 ​Oath Taking Ceremony The installation ceremony of the student council was held in the college. Vandana Rana was appointed as the president, Ankit Saini as the vice president, Prince as the secretary and Sonia as the joint secretary. The principal asked the council to maintain and raise the reputation and prestige of the college. Oct -30​ ​YRC Quiz Competition YRC unit of the college in collaboration with the Jaipuria Institute organised a quiz on YRC. Quizmaster Rishi conducted the quiz.

55 teams of 110 students participated and first prize of 5000/- was given to Akhilesh B.Sc.(Med) III and Manish, B.Sc. (Med)l III, winners of the second prize and third prize were given pen drives and certificates respectively. Oct-31 ​ ​Women Cell Event The Chief Guest of the event was Ms Nelinderjeet Kaur Sindhu. In the event, there were no. Of competitions such as - Mehndi, Cafeteria, painting, Nail art and poster making. The motive behind the event was to give a platform to students to showcase their different skills. Students had participated with full enthusiasm and overall event was a great success.

Oct - 31 ​YRC’s National Unity Day Celebration YRC unit of the college organised national unity day celebration in the college. 110 youths participated in this event. Human chains were formed by the students as a mark of unity. The event was also attended by the principal Dr. Rajinder Singh. Oct-31 ​Patel Jayanti Celebration The college celebrated the birthday of the iron man of India - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The students organised a rally, made posters and wrote slogans reflecting his dynamic personality. The principal Dr. Rajender Singh advised the students to take inspiration from his life and succeed in their lives.

November News Flash Nov -2 ​Poster Making Competition by Road Safety Club The road safety club organised a Poster Making Competition in the college campus. More than 25 students participated in this event. Prof. Zeenat Madaan, Dr J.D. Chauhan and Prof. Nandini were the judges for the event. Parvinder Kaur, Harneet Kaur and Vikas Chaudhary bagged the first, second and third position respectively.

Nov - 14 ​Kurukshetra University Semester- 3 Examination Semester -3 examinations were conducted in the college. All the students worked hard for their exams. A sense of discipline was


5 observed throughout the exam time. CCTV surveillance of all classrooms was done to ensure no cheating during the examinations. Nov -3​ ​ Musical Workshop One Day Musical Workshop sponsored by DGHE by Artist Mr Subhash Ghosh high-Grade Artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, nominated for Padmashree for the self-made instrument Nabh Swara Ragini. Nov- 3​ ​ Essay Writing Competition An essay writing competition was organised by the Women Cell of the college.

It saw great participation. Shivsi Handa, M.Com. II bagged the first prize. Diksha Sharma B.Sc. I and Tanvi B.Com. II won the second and third prizes respectively. Nov -22 ​ MUSIC MANIA : Performance of Tabla and Ghazals The Music and Sanskrit department of the college organised a Tabla and Ghazal performance by Hem Bhardwaj and Praveen Rathi of the Music Department. Dr Rajender Singh honoured the performers for their wonderful performance based on the ghazals of the legends Jagjit Singh and Pankaj Udas.

Nov-30 to Dec-2 National Cricket Tournament For The Blind YRC unit and the National Federation of the Blind organised the national cricket tournament for the blind in which 36 youth were involved to assist the event. 60 blind players participated from various states such as Kerala, West Bengal, Telangana, Haryana etc. The event was sponsored by IndusInd Bank. Shri Subhash Chander Sihag, S.D.M., Ambala Cantt, was the guest for this event. December news flash Dec - 1​ ​Free Health Checkup and Cancer Detection Camp Free Health Checkup and Cancer Detection Camp was organised by the YRC Unit and Rotary Cancer Hospital Ambala Cantt.

32 youth were involved in this program. The panel of doctors included Dr Sandeep Kakkar, Dr Girdhar Gopal, Dr Vijay Bansal, Dr Vinay Mittal, Dr Abhishek Mittal, Dr Karthik Mittal, Dr Sachin Singh. The camp provided free consultation and free medicine and free mammography test, Endoscopy test, Pap smear test, PSA. 200 cancer patients and 100 general patients attended the camp.

Dec-12 ​Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights Under the supervision of the college library a workshop on Intellectual Property Rights for the teachers by Shree Krishna Gopal Maheshwari, patents and trademarks specialist. He spoke about the Trademark Act 1999, how our creations can be protected using a trademark and how plagiarism is a punishable


6 offence. Mr Balesh Kumar, the convenor of the library also assisted him in the workshop. Dec -12​ ​ A 6-day Workshop for the Administrative Staff A 6-day workshop on Personality Development was organised for the administrative staff by the C.G.C.

of the college. Narender Aggarwal from Gurukul Drona, Ludhiana was the speaker for the first two days. He spoke to the staff about communication skills. The speaker for the third day was Prof. Satbir Singh who spoke on Emotional Intelligence. On the fourth day, Dr Ekta Anand spoke about personality appraisal and on the fifth-day Prof. Rashmi Billus spoke about attitude. On the sixth day, Prof. Rajeev Chandra Sharma spoke about behavioural analysis and concluded the workshop. A trip to Amritsar was sent after the workshop.

Dec - 18​ ​Cancer Detection Camp Cancer Detection Camp was organised by YRC unit in collaboration with Sneh Sparsh NGO and World Cancer Care Charitable Trust, in village Tepla. 22 youths were involved in this camp in which 570 people were examined. The consultation was done in 4 well-equipped cancer detection vans. Free consultation was given for oral cancer, throat cancer, gum cancer and breast cancer. The guest for this camp was Shri Subhash Bansal, Rotary Club, Ambala, Shri Ajay Gupta, Sneh Sparsh NGO and Shri Vinay Singh from World Cancer Care Trust.

Dec -22​ ​National Mathematics Day The college celebrated the National Mathematics Day on the birth anniversary of the famous mathematician Sir Srinivasa Ramanujan.

The Government of India declared 22 December as “The National Mathematics Day” in 2012. It is a matter of pride and honour for all the students and teachers of Mathematics. Dec-26 - 1 Jan ​ NSS Camp A 7-day camp was organised by National Service Scheme (NSS) from 26th Dec to 1 Jan 2019 at village Rawlon. Around 100 students participated in this camp. Professor Zeenat Madan, Dr Nirvair, and Mr Tejinder were the program Service officer. Here is the glimpse of the activities organised by students : 26 Dec​- Inauguration of the camp lecture by the principal, tree plantation was done by students rally swachata and cleanliness of the college campus.

27 Dec​- P.T and exercise in the village, cleanliness drive of the area cleaning of the village and Essay Writing Competition. 28 Dec​- Lecture by S.H.O, Mahesh Nagar, rally to save girl child and Singing competition 29 Dec - Socio Economic Survey in village and lecture by Dr Maniram and Poetry Competition. 30 Dec​- Soil and water testing. Rally on saving water and swachata. A visit to the school

​1 Jan​- Rangoli Competition in college. Chief Guest was Mrs Honey Ahluwalia from the Sunny Ahluwalia Charitable. Momentos were given to students for their performance. Posters were displayed prizes and certificates were handed over to the winners. January News Flash Happy New Year! ​Jan- 1 ​ ​The Beginning of Even Semester The new year marks the beginning of the even semester The college wishes the students luck and a successful study session.

Jan -2​ ​ ​Save The Girl Child The Women Cell organized Slogan Writing Competition, Poster Making Competition and a Rally on the topic - Save the Girl Child. The rally was held at the JCI Chowk where the winners were presented with their awards. Alisha Walia B.Com. III, Pooja B.Com. III and Tanya B.Com. II won the first, second and third prizes respectively in the Poster Making Competition. Consolation prizes were given to Pranjali, Sonia, Shruti and Mahima. In the Slogan Writing Competition Shivsi M.Com II, Jasmita B.Com II and Sonia B.Com II won the first, second and third prize respectively.

The consolation prize for Slogan Writing was given to Bhawya. Jan -5 ​ ​N.E.T and J.R.F cleared Deepali, Sanya from qualified the N.E.T. exam in the first attempt and Shobha from M.Com cleared both N.E.T. and J.R.F. in the first attempt and brought glory to the name of S.D. college. Ms Mandeep Kaur, Ms Monica and Sakshi Gautam from the Department of Computer and I.T. also qualified the N.E.T. exam. Jan -10 ​ Placement Drive By ICICI Prudential A placement drive was organised by ICICI Prudential for the post of Financial Consultant( Unit Manager). Jaspreet Kaur from the company introduced the students about the working of the company.80 students took part in the drive and 30 out of them got selected.

The selected students will get a package of 200000 p.a. and additional services such as insurance, mobile and travelling charges.

Jan-23 ​ ​Techno-Com The Commerce Department along with Computer and I.T. Department organised the Techno-Com for all the


8 commerce and computer and I.T. students which included activities like Powerpoint Presentations and App Collage Making. In the PPT Chavi Sharma, Akhilesh Sharma and Twinkle Kapoor won the first, second and third prize respectively and in the App Collage Making Radha, Ferdosi and Deepak won the first, second and third position. Jan -24 ​Start-ups and India One day state level workshop on the "start-ups and India - workshop for Young Enterprising Minds" was organised by the Department of Commerce and Management for postgraduate students in the seminar hall.

B.Com and BBA III students also attended this workshop by registering themselves. The objectives of the workshop were - Business ideas and available government schemes, Business planning, Potential sources for business funding. This effective information was shared by KVIC (Ambala), Director MSME (Karnal) and bankers. Jan - 24 ​Guest Lecture on how to clear I.A.S. A guest lecture on I.A.S. was organised by the placement cell. 100 students took part in this and learnt the tips to clear I.A.S. from the speaker Naman, who himself has cleared I.A.S. three times​. ​He talked about the questions which have been asked in the exam several times and also that the exam is conducted in a total of 23 languages.

Jan-25 ​Slogan Writing Competition The Management Association organised a slogan writing competition on Great Leaders and Freedom Fighters on eve of The Republic Day. The event was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Shubra Jindal from Commerce and Management Department. Shivsi Handa of M.Com won the first position, Mehak of BBA got the second position and Ravneet and Yogesh got the third position. Jan - 26 ​Happy Republic Day The college celebrated the republic day with great patriotism and pride. A number of cultural activities were performed. Our honourable principal was awarded for his initiatives towards a cleaner campus and treatment of organic waste by State Minister Manish Grover in Ambala City.

Similarly the H.O.D. of the Maths Department, Naveen Gulati was awarded for his social services by the S.D.M. Subhash Sihag. Jan -29 ​ Placement Drive ( Concentrix) A placement drive was organised by the Concentrix company in which 80 students gotselected. The drive took place in 3 stages. The company introduced the functioning of the company to the students by way of video. The students were also informed about the facilities provided by the company such as medical facilities, insurance and cab facilities.


9 The cover story The 41st zonal youth festival was organised from 11th October 2018 to 13th October 2018 at Smt.

AAA Govt. PG college (Kalka).Our College participated in various items like - western vocal solo, western group song, general group song, classical dance, one-act play, skit, mime,classical instrumental solo, western instrumental solo,quiz, poster making & photography, collage making, on the spot painting, rangoli, folk song, folk dance, folk orchestra, choreography, rituals, Haryanvi pop, Haryanvi saang etc. more than 15 items were recommended for the inter-zonal included Western song(group), General song(group), Choreography, Rassiya, Haryanvi pop, Haryanvi dance, Rituals, quiz, declamation, ​Haryanvi saang etc.

41st Inter zonal youth festival was organised from 4th November 2018 to 6th November 2018 at Ch. Ishwar Singh Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Pundri(Kaithal) in which all the recommended items from zonal youth festival participated and competed with all the colleges which come under Kurukshetra University and the following items were further qualified for inter-university - western song(group), general song(group), quiz, debate. Also, the following items performed extremely well and secured 2nd position - folk orchestra, choreography, rassiya, Haryanvi dance, rituals and Haryanvi pop.34th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival was organised from 27th December 2018 to 31st December 2018 at Punjab University, Chandigarh where all the universities from all over north zone participated.

It was a proud moment for the participants to perform at such a big platform. The college is proud of its talented student
