LIABILITIES
Liability: ESNZ, ESNZ Dressage, ESNZ Para Equestrian, ESNZ National Equestrian Centre (Taupo), or any
representative of these bodies, accepts no liability for any loss, damage, injury or illness to horse/pony/rider,
spectator, vehicles or any personal property whether caused by their negligence or breach of contract in any way
whatsoever. Competitors and spectators attending this event do so at their own risk.
Safety of Property: None of the above bodies accept any liability for the safety of any goods/equipment or the loss
of, or damage to such, brought in/stored at the venue, at the event. This includes stock / goods at trade stands
Damage: Any damage to facilities must be reported to the NEC Office or the Event Office immediately

HEALTH & SAFETY
ESNZ Dressage is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy event for all participants, and to
providing the information, training and supervision needed to achieve this.
1. All competitors and visitors to the venue must abide by the ESNZ/Dressage NZ and National Equestrian Centre
    Health & Safety Policies and the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015.
2. Copies of the Event Health & Safety policy may be found at the event office.
3. Any incident or near miss must be reported to event office and incident form completed.
4. Any hazards identified must be reported to Event Office or the National Equestrian Centre Office.
5. Competitors will be responsible for their own safety at all times and must always observe safe practices and
    follow event rules and officials’ instructions, ensuring that others are not put a risk by their actions.

ESNZ DRUG & ALCOHOL POLICY
ESNZ reserve the right to drug or alcohol test any participant at the event under the ESNZ Drug & Alcohol Policy

FEI CODE OF CONDUCT
1.  In all equestrian sports the horse must be considered paramount.
2.  The well-being of the horse shall be above the demands of breeders, trainers, riders, owners, dealers,
    organisers, sponsors or officials.
3. All handling and veterinary treatment must ensure the health and welfare of the horse.
4. The highest standards of nutrition, health, sanitation and safety shall always be encouraged and maintained.
5. Adequate provision must be made for ventilation, feeding, watering and maintaining a healthy environment
    during transportation.
6. Emphasis should be placed on increasing education in training and equestrian practices and on promoting
    scientific studies in equine health.
7. In the interests of the horse, the fitness and competence of the rider shall be regarded as essential.
8. All riding and training methods must take account of the horse as a living entity and must not include any
    technique considered by the FEI to be abusive.
9. National Federations should establish adequate controls in order that all persons and bodies under their
    jurisdiction respect the welfare of the horse.
10. The national and international Rules and Regulations in equestrian sport regarding the health and welfare of the
    horse must be adhered to not only during national and international events, but also in training.
11. Competition Rules and Regulations shall be continually reviewed to ensure such welfare.

Professional Services
1. Equine Therapists and Treatment
 a. Any equine therapists or practitioners who are not veterinarians and intend to provide therapeutic treatment to
equines in any capacity at this event in a private or commercial basis must notify the Organising Committee of any
treatment prior to the event.
b. All practitioners must also comply with the Conditions applicable to this event set out in the Schedule of classes.
c. Riders who own their equipment (e.g. Equissage, Cyclossage or similar) are only permitted to treat their own
horses with these systems at the event.
 d. Any practitioner receiving financial or other gain from providing therapies at the event will be required to pay a
trade exhibitor fee at the discretion of the Organising Committee.

2. Other Professionals / Traders
 a. Any other professional intending on providing services or trade of any kind at this event must obtain prior
agreement from the Organising Committee – this excludes professional Dressage Coaches assisting in the warmup of
competitors and grooms that are in part- or full-time employment of a competitor

COMPETITION RULES / CONDITIONS SUMMARY:
 1.     Rules: All competitions will be run under the current version ESNZ GR’s, VR’s & ESNZ Rules for Dressage| ESNZ
        Dressage and 2020 FEI GR’s, VR’s and Rules for Dressage where applicable.
 2.     Prohibited Saddlery: ESNZ Dressage Rule 478.9: Prohibited gear is not allowed from the time of arrival at the
        venue.
 3.     Riding Helmets: ESNZ red-tagged, approved riding helmets must be worn at all times when riding at the
        National Equestrian Centre. Please also refer to FEI rules re helmets at horse inspections.
 4.     Horse/Pony ID Numbers (DR Art 477): Approved Horse/Pony official identification numbers for competition
        must be worn on both sides of the horse/pony at all times when being ridden or led in arena familiarisation.
        At all other times an ID Tag with Horse name, Rider phone contact must be worn in or out of the stable/yard.
 5.     Schedule Amendments: The OC reserves the right to alter the programme/schedule and/or prize money
        within the FEI Rules, ESNZ GR’s/ESNZ Dressage NZ Rules.
 6.      Equal Placings: (DR Art 446) In the case of equality in any class at this event, the higher collective marks will
        determine the higher placing. If the competitors are still equal, then the higher co-efficient marks will
        determine the placings. If there is still an equality of points, the competitors are given the same placing.
 7.     Prize Money: DR article 465 & Under Special Conditions Art 464. The organising committee reserves the
        right to substitute prize money with goods to the equal retail value. All prize money will be paid within 20
        working days of the event. Please ensure current bank account details are on your online account or PM will
        not be paid.
 8.     Special Conditions: As per the schedule, Championship PM will be paid on Championship points (not
        individual classes). The OC reserves the right to amend/limit the number of prizes or prize money if less than
        eight starters in any class. Up to 3 starters, 1st only; up to 5 1st & 2nd; up to 8, 1st – 3rd; 9 or more 1st - 4th,
        and/or pay PM which is less than the entry fee for 1st - 4th place getters.
 9.     Presentation of Prizes: Approximate presentation times will be advised in the programme and are subject to
        change at any time, please check with event administration for updates. The organising committee reserves
        the right to withhold prize monies or prizes/trophies should a place getter not attend an advertised prize
        giving. Only Riders with conflicting classes may nominate another person to the Prize Giving Co-ordinator to
        collect prizes/rosettes at the prizegiving. This also applies to series winners and place getters
 10.    Media & Publicity: ESNZ Dressage NZ reserves the right to use event photographs for marketing, publicity,
        advertising, funding applications and other promotions as they see fit. ESNZ Dressage reserves the right to
        record and broadcast via live stream or any other type of digital broadcast any or all of the competition at the
        Bates National Dressage Championships 2020, both during and after the event. Competitions and/or
        participants will receive no remuneration for this. All footage remains the property of ESNZ Dressage. The
        copyright of all photographer’s work must always be respected by competitors and their associates during and
        after the event and may not be used without permission of the photographer.

FEI COMPETITIONS: FEI CDI 3*, CDI2*, CDI-Y, CDI-J & CDI-P
Important Note: It may take at least four weeks to process new passports or ESNZ ID Books
owing to paperwork required and post / courier of documents

    1.   FEI Schedule available from www.nzequestrian.org.nz.by 1 Jan 2020
    2.   FEI Dressage Tests current at 1/1/20. www.fei.org
    3.   All FEI horses must be stabled on the grounds
    4.   Classes 801, 802, 803, 804, 901, 902, 903, 904, 905, 906, 910, 911, 912, 920, 921, 922 are run under FEI rules. with the
         exception that classes 902, 904, 906 (Grand Prix) may be contested in a snaffle bridle.
    5.   A double bridle or snaffle bridle may be used at all levels in CDI2*, CDIJ, CDIY
    6.   All FEI riders require annual FEI rider registration and FEI horse registration current from 1/1/20 and must be renewed
         for 2020 via ESNZ National Office
    7.   All competitors must pay $35.00 FEI EADCMP fee per horse with entries. (FEI Medication Control Programme)
    8.   Horse Health and ID Inspection 1pm – 2pm Wednesday 25 March. All FEI horses / ponies must be presented for inspection
         within this time frame.

CDI 3* (Grand Prix only)
   1.    All horses and athletes require 2020 FEI registration. These are processed via ESNZ membership
   2.    FEI Horse Passports are required for horses entered in CDI3* classes 901, 903, 905.
   3.    Combinations must achieve 60% in the Grand Prix test to compete in the CDI 3*Grand Prix Special & Grand Prix Musical
         Freestyle

CDI**/CDI-Y/CDI-J/CDI-P
   1.    CDI**, CDI-Y CDI-J & CDI-P classes 801, 802, 910, 911, 912, 920, 921,922, 940, 941, 942. All horses /ponies and athletes
         require 2020 FEI registration, processed via ESNZ national office
   2.    All horses require valid ESNZ National ID Books, FEI passports are not required but are accepted.
   3.    CDI-Y Combinations must complete the YR Team Test to qualify for the Individual Test and achieve 60% in the Young
         Rider Individual Test class 911 to qualify to compete in the Young Rider Freestyle class 912. The Freestyle is mandatory
         for qualified combinations.
   4.    CDI-J Combinations must complete the JNR Team Test to qualify for the Individual Test and achieve 60% in the JNR
         Individual Test class 941 to qualify to compete in the Junior Rider Freestyle class 942. The Freestyle is mandatory for
         qualified combinations.
   5.    CDI-P Combinations must complete the Pony Team Test to qualify for the Individual Test and must achieve 60% in the
         Pony Rider Individual Test class 921 to qualify to compete in the Pony Rider Freestyle class 922.
   6.    CDI-P, CDI-J and CDI-Y Combinations may not contest any other classes at the Championships.

ALL CDI, NATIONAL GRAND PRIX AND NATIONAL SMALL TOUR COMPETITORS
Must present for the Arrival Health / ID Check between 1pm - 2pm Wednesday and must be presented for the horse
inspection (trot up) 5.30pm Wednesday 25 March. Location TBA at event.

ENTRIES, WITHDRAWALS & REFUNDS, DRAW
  1. Only entries received at www.equestrianentries.co.nz by Wednesday 19th February with correct entry fees will
      be accepted. Postal, fax, emailed or phone entries will not be accepted.
  2. All horses and ponies on the grounds after the official event start time must be entered at the event unless
      special permission is granted by the OC. Preferred stabling will not be given priority to horses not entered at
      the event. No ESNZ non-registered horses or ponies will be permitted on the event grounds unless special
      permission is granted by the OC. This permission must be sought at time of entry.
  3. Where a rider has a NEC leased yard, preference will be given during the allocation process.
  4. Payment of all fees is required by 19 February. Entries are not considered to be definite until payment has
      been made. If payments are not received by 19 Feb, the OC may invalidate any entry with no further notice
      and /or charge a late fee of $20 per class payable before starting. Yards and stables will not be allocated until
      all payments are received. Payment by the due date is the responsibility of the person making the entry, NO
      payment reminders will be issued by the OC.
  5. All competitors must be ESNZ full or child members.
  6. All ESNZ rider and horse registration must be current to the 28 March 2020 or entry will not be accepted.
  7. Withdrawals and Refunds – Please see official withdrawal form page 19.
  8. Eligibility: Art 461, 462 & 462A Eligibility and proof of qualification is the responsibility of the person
      responsible or competitor (for all qualifying criteria see pages 12-15).
  9. Upgradings: Notify Entry Secretary within two working days of the horse upgrading and request changes
      online. Failure to do so prior to show will result in no refund and additional entry fees charged.
  10. Entry Changes: Other requests for changes after close of entry may be made but will be subject to the approval
      of the OC. A fee of $15 per class will be applicable if approved.
  11. Balloting: The OC reserves the right at all levels to ballot horses/ponies if excessive entries are received. If
      balloting is required, priority will be given to the best performed combinations based on % in Super 5 League
      classes at Premier League Events since 1/8/2019.
  12. Qualifying classes: Horses should be entered in one level/division only, exclusive of Young Dressage Horse Age
      Group Championships and Super 5 Finals if qualified.
  13. Draw will be available by email and web site www.equestrianentries.co.nz
  14. Draw Multiple Horses: Riders with more than 2 horses: The OC will make every effort to ensure that riders
      have at least 60 minutes between rides. However, if this is not possible owing to the scheduling of classes, the
      maximum time possible between rides will be allocated.
  15. Draw: If required, a revised draw and/or start times for the following day’s competition will be available by
      6.30 pm at event administration office and updated online. The OC reserves the right to alter the programme
      to ensure the smooth running of the event. It is the rider’s responsibility to check for any new times posted.
  16. Helen Holden Memorial Trophy Area Teams entries must be nominated by Area Delegates or their
      delegated representative and emailed to the Event Secretary by Friday 20 March 2020. Any team member
      substitutions must be notified to the event secretary no later than 5.00pm Wednesday 25th March.

STABLE & YARD ALLOCATIONS
  1. No yards or stables will be allocated until all payments are made. Consideration will be given to riders with
     horses in both national and FEI classes to keep teams together where possible. Some horses or ponies may
     need to pay an upgrade fee to premium stables once covered yards are allocated or will be allocated an
     outdoor yard.

GENERAL VENUE CONDITIONS
Stables, Yards & Wash Down Bays
   1. Moving horses to yards or stables not prior allocated to those horses is prohibited without permission of the
      Stable Manager
   2. Any temporary yarding supplied by competitors must comply with ESNZ rules location to be approved by stable
      manager
   3. All yards and stables are to be left clean, free of all horse waste & hay and properly mucked out.
      $50 administration & clean fee may apply if left uncleaned. All stable muck to muck heaps.
   4. Please use the wheelie bins provided for rubbish only
   5. Keep wash down bays clean at all times.
   6. No smoking in any buildings or stable & covered yard areas.

Dogs
   1. Dogs must be kept in the truck park and on a lead at all times.
   2. No dogs are allowed in any stable or yarding areas, warm up, competition areas or buildings.
   3. The owner of the dog will be responsible for the cost of any damage/harm caused by the dog at the
      competition.
   4. Failure to comply with the above rulings will result in a $100 fine which must be paid for by the dog owner.
   5. This owner must pay this fine to be allowed to continue riding in the competition.

Vehicles
   1. Truck entry by Gate 3 off Rapids Rd.
   2. Venue gates are kept unlocked, please ensure gates, especially the road gates, are closed after entry where
        applicable.
   3. There is no vehicle access or parking around the stadium area except for accredited officials and service
        vehicles. All other visitors must park in designated car parks. The OC reserves the right to limit parking in
        vicinity of the stables to horse transport vehicles only
   4. Speed limit for all vehicles 15 kph in all locations.
   5. Motorbikes must not be used before 6.00am or after 8.00 pm and must be used in accordance with normal
        road rules. Approved safety helmets must be worn when riding motorbikes at all times. Persons under 16
        years may not use a motorbike.
   6. Safety helmets must always be worn by all persons on a push bike

Camping & Power Sites
   1. Parking and camping areas will be defined. Some areas will be restricted to on site camping/parking only.
   2. Day competitors must park in designated day parking areas.
   3. Trucks and Campervans will be allocated specific powered sites and must have a valid electrical certificate
       and under no circumstances may permit other vehicles to connect to their vehicle via extension cords.
   4. Waste and grey water tanks must only be emptied in the wastewater dump adjacent to ablution block near
       truck park
   5. Please be tidy and use green wheelie bins for all rubbish – no animal waste in green bins.

Competition Arena Use & Familiarisation
   1.   All Competition Arenas are closed at all times except as stated below.
   2.   These times may be amended, please check times in rider notes provided with the draw.
   3.   Arena familiarisations is not intended to be used as a full schooling session.
   4.   Riders must be considerate of other riders wishing to familiarise their horses.
   5.   Further familiarisations may be notified in rider notes.

Weatherbeeta Indoor Arena Familiarisations Wednesday 25 March 2020. This may be updated after entries close /
draw done
Horses will be allowed access to work in the Weatherbeeta indoor competition arena. Definite times to be advised
in rider notes.

Freestyle Music
Music should be delivered to the office on high quality non rewritable CD (wav file) or USB (mp3 file) by
Wednesday 10am for Para Athletes and Thursday 10am for National classes. Back up disc, USB should be available

No yards or stables will be allocated until all payments are made. Consideration will be given to riders with horses
in both national and FEI classes to keep teams together where possible. Some horses or ponies may need to pay an

Championship Points & Presentations
   1. Championship points are allocated 20 for 1st, to 1 for 20th in Round 1, points awarded x 1.5 in Round 2.
   2. Grand Prix Championship points will be awarded from both National & FEI classes.
   3. To be eligible for Championship points in round 2, competitors must have started in Championship round 1.
   4. Champions and Reserves: The horse with the highest aggregate allocated points from specified classes will
      be the Championship winner. In the event of a tie, the combination with the highest place in the final
      qualifier is the winner. If there is still a tie, the combination with the highest aggregate collective marks in
      the final qualifier will be the winner. If there is a further tie, the combination with the highest average % in
      two qualifiers will be the winner.
   5. All level Open & Amateur Champions receive a presentation rug and sash, reserve champions a sash.

Championship Conditions
   1. Grand Prix National Classes, may be contested in a Snaffle Bridle, all other FEI rules apply to these classes
   2. All Bates Open Championships tests rounds 1 and 2 must be ridden from memory.
   3. Eye Opener test may be commanded.
   4. Combinations contesting Bates Open Championship may not contest an Amateur Championship.
   5. Combinations contesting National Amateur Championship may not contest a Bates National Championship
   6. Eligible riders may contest an Amateur Championship on a mount not entered in a Bates Open Championship.

NATIONAL AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Eligibility
     1. Art 462.5 Category AM; Any rider C5 or below is a CAm Rider. A Cam rider may compete in Amateur
          Competitions at any level, but not more than two levels below that rider’s category (C) e.g.
          A C5 rider may compete in Am Competitions in Elementary, Medium & Advanced
          A C4 rider may compete in Am Competitions in Novice, Elementary, Medium & Advanced

   2. Rider Category Definitions
      Category 1     (C1) For riders who have never earned 15 or more grading points at any level above
                     Preliminary
      Category 2     (C2) For riders who have never earned 15 or more grading points at any level above Novice
      Category 3     (C3) For riders who have never earned 15 or more grading points at any level above
                     Elementary

  CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: Refer to General Conditions for the event plus for Para Classes please note:
    1. This event is run under ESNZ Para-Equestrian Rules, ESNZ Generals Rules and Regulations and ESNZ

    2. ESNZ, DNZ & Para-Equestrian rules apply from time of arrival;
    3. All riders must be current full financial members of ESNZ at time of entry current until at least 28

    4. All Three Tests count toward the title for each grade;
    5. All Riders are to display the Official Orange Para Badge on each side of their saddle cloth at all times
        while schooling, hacking or competing as well as the horse’s official registration number;
    6. Athletes may compete in a maximum of two tests per day per horse at the event
    7. All horses must be registered with ESNZ;
    8. All tests are the current 2017 versions that are on the FEI Website;
    9. A horse may not be shared by different riders between PE & AB classes;
    10. A horse may be shared by riders of different Grades in Para classes as per Article 125

11. While every effort will be made to accommodate riders wishing to compete in both PE & AB classes
    and to accommodate PE riders with more than one horse, the smooth running of the event is
    paramount and should there be excessive entries or timetabling issues, then riders may be asked to
    nominate which horse/discipline they want to compete in.
12. Depending on indoor timetable requirements classes may be held in a different daily order on
    Thursday and Friday.
13. A Riders’ Briefing will be held on Wednesday 25 March 8:30am in the downstairs Stadium area
    adjacent to office. All riders are required to attend

Elite Equine Young Dressage Horse National Championship
    1. Horses must be ESNZ registered and be 148cm or over.
    2. An annual dressage start is required to enter.
    3. For 4, 5, 6-year-old horses only, based on the official birth date, Southern
        Hemisphere born horses - 1st August Northern Hemisphere born horses - 1st January.
    4. Riders must be an ESNZ full competitive or life member.
    5. Riders may compete more than one horse in the Championship.
    6. No prior performance qualification required for qualification round.
    7. Proof of age must be supplied with entry or entry will not be accepted.
    8. ESNZ Identification papers will be accepted but must be completed and signed by a Veterinarian.
    9. Tests are available at www.nzequestrian.org.nz/dressage
    10. Sashes and prize money for age group winner, prize money rug and sash for champion.

NZ Hanoverian Society Awards
Two awards – Preliminary - Elementary and Medium and above, will be presented at the
Championships.

   2. Award open to horses registered with the NZ Hanoverian Society.

The Anamour Memorial Trophy
The Anamour Trophy will be presented to the Anamour descendant (by Anamour or out of Anamour mare) with the
highest open championship points at the event across all grades.
In the event of a tie, the highest-grade wins. Horse must be nominated at time of entry to be eligible.

Level 6 - Rider with no points at level 7 or above
Level 7 - Rider with no points at level 8 or above

All riders receive a complimentary ticket. This is your opportunity to thank your Super 5 League, Series and Event
Sponsors fantastic contribution by supporting this fun evening.
The Super 5 League prizes will be presented. All winners and place getters to be present. Prize Winners in Rider
Attire. Guests: Smart Casual or Business dress please.
Platters will be served alongside a complimentary welcome drink.
Riders are requested to pre book their complimentary ticket on their entry form, if they are attending.
Riders may also pre purchase additional tickets with their entry at $20 per ticket

Conditions:
   1. Open to teams from areas affiliated to Equestrian Sports NZ.
   2. Teams consist of four riders. At least three of the horses must compete in different grades.
   3. One rider may only compete on one horse, unless an area only has three riders, and then one rider may
        ride two horses.
   4. All horses and riders in each team must be from the same area, except that, if an area has insufficient riders
       competing at the Championships, up to two volunteer combinations from another area may be used
       provided they are not already in a team.
   5. The opposite island may compete as an island team if it doesn’t have enough competitors to make an area
       team.
   6. Points allocated are 10 for 1st, 9 for 2nd down to 1 for 10th. Placings lower than 10th are not allocated points.
   7. In the event of a tie, the combined points of the two highest placed horses in each team will count
   8. Teams entry must be submitted 20 March 2020.
   9. Teams must be nominated by area groups and entry form signed by two area officials.
   10. In the event of a team member scratching from the event a substitute horse and rider may be included in
       the team.
   11. Substitutions must be made no later than one hour prior to the start of competition Thursday 25 March
       2020.
   12. Only one rider from any restricted division is permitted on any team. e.g. CDIP, CDIJ, CDIY, AM, Para

Official Withdrawal Form
1.   There will be no refund unless this Official Withdrawal Form is completed & sent to the Event Secretary by
     Friday 3rd April
2.   Rider Event Levy: $50 refunded national riders, $100 CDI riders
3.   Stabling & Camping fees will be refunded
4.   Other refunds will be paid as follows

Notification of withdrawal received before 5pm Fri 21st March
Refunds: Less $50.00 per horse

Notification of withdrawal received after 5pm 21st March
Refunds: Less $50.00 per horse if vet or doctors certificate provided. If vet certificate provided, only the horse to
which the certificate applies will receive a refund. If doctors certificate provided all horses for that rider will be
refunded less $50 per horse. Other applications for refunds will only be at the discretion of the OC and if a refund is
approved will be less $80 per horse.
