Web: www.stirlingnorth.sa.edu.auPARENT INFORMATION Welcome to Stirling North Primary School and our wonderful school community. I truly believe that SNPS is a great place to be, with amazing staff committed to making a difference. The school works relentlessly to ensure we provide engaging learning and teaching programs, catering for the needs of contemporary learners. We provide a holistic approach with clear expectations and benchmarks that develop skills of lifelong learners. Stirling North is a relaxed and caring suburb with a beautiful family friendly country feel. It is located towards the base of the beautiful Flinders Ranges with Mount Brown as our backdrop. Our school grounds are vast, with amazing native plants and a large sporting oval. The school enrolment numbers have steadily increased over recent years and we currently have 366 students enrolled. Interest in our school continues to be strong due to its proud reputation, pleasing academic results and a vast array of opportunities and programs. An enrolment policy is in place to ensure that families living in Stirling North can access their local school. We highly value our relationship with our school community and go above and beyond to connect, inform and seek ongoing feedback from all of our stakeholders. Our parents and other community members take great pride and interest in our school. The Governing Council is passionate and highly motivated to ensure the ongoing success of the school, giving their support of the teaching staff and various curriculum programs. Our school culture and ethos is underpinned by a set of established enduring values and expert learner qualities. These are evident in all that we undertake as a school. We have high expectations regarding Respect, Responsibility and Resilience and take pride in our dress code. We challenge every student to be their best and celebrate their success. We believe that lifelong learning begins in the early years of schooling through the fostering of an inquiring mind, positivity, confidence and resilience. Our students engage in inquiry learning processes to help them become responsible and active global citizens. We offer a comprehensive curriculum from Reception to Year 7 with a tireless emphasis on building personal and social skills along with critical and creative thinking. We also have curriculum specialists in the Arts, Science and Physical Education. I value a personal approach, so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I am here to help. Kind regards Adam Wilson Principal adam.wilson36@schools.sa.edu.au
PARENT INFORMATION SNPS in Brief Stirling North Primary School opened in 1981 and is located approximately 300km north of Adelaide and 10km South East of Port Augusta. The majority of our students live in the Stirling North area, although a small number come from Port Augusta. Our Aboriginal student numbers are at approximately 50 and students are supported by a Aboriginal Community Education Officer and Aboriginal Education Teacher. There are 366 students currently enrolled at Stirling North Primary School, who are divided into 14 classes ranging from Reception to Year 7. The Site Development Plan currently focuses on Reading and Numeracy. Additional support is provided for students with learning difficulties and disabilities. We currently have 50 staff members, including teaching staff, School Service Officers, a Grounds person and Aboriginal Community Education Officer. The Leadership team is comprised of the Principal, Deputy Principal, Assistant Principal, Literacy Coordinator and Connected Curriculum Coordinator. The school receives some funding as a disadvantaged school and continues to maintain a focus on raising student Literacy and Numeracy standards. We are always looking for willing volunteers to support in a range of ways including (but not limited to): working in the canteen, library, classrooms, on Sports Day, listening to reading, transporting students on camps/excursion/sporting events, attending busy bees and representing families on committees, particularly Governing Council. The Canteen is run by a Canteen Manager and volunteers 5 days a week. The Manager coordinates a roster to keep the canteen running smoothly. The school community values its extensive grounds and members of the public use the grounds after hours and on weekends. The oval is a full sized Australian Rules Football/ Cricket oval and has an adjoining soccer field. We have a large adventure playground and a BMX track. More detailed information is available on the school’s website: www.stirlingnorth.sa.edu.au

DRESS CODE POLICY…...continued
WHY DO WE PROMOTE A DRESS CODE?
It is an opportunity for students to take pride in themselves and their school.
It is easier to get your child dressed each morning.
School clothing is often cheaper to buy than other items.
A Dress Code reduces the pressures on parents to keep up with current fashion trends.
Camp and excursion guidelines state that children should wear their school uniform as they can be
more easily identified as belonging to a particular school, in case of an emergency or mishap.
All students not wearing a wide brimmed hat will be sent by the yard duty teacher to a designated
shade area. Notes will be sent home to inform parents of this if it occurs on more than one occasion.
We provide and encourage students to wear sunscreen and we support the wearing of sunglasses
when students are outside.
PURCHASING DRESS CODE CLOTHING
Various stores in Port Augusta stock suitable clothing in dress code colours.
All official school uniforms are available for purchase online from
primesports.com.au/collections/stirling-north-primary-school
School bags, tracksuit pants and shorts with the school logo are also available from Prime Sports but are not
compulsory items.
Ordering and delivery timelines are published via the newsletter and Facebook and can be found on the
Primesports website.
Please remember to label all items. Lost, unnamed items go into the lost property
bin in the Front Office and are washed and recycled or donated to charitable organisations.PARENT INFORMATION

5. Classroom / Yard Supervision
Children will be supervised at school between the hours of 8.15am and 3.30pm by
teaching staff.
If children are on school grounds before 8.15am or after 3.30 pm they must be

adult supervision. Please book your child into OSHC or make other arrangements so that
your child is not at school unsupervised.
6. Bicycles & Scooters
We have two areas which have bike racks for children who ride bikes to school. One is
located near the gym and the other at the back of the school behind the playground. All
bikes/scooters should be secured. Bicycles/scooters are stored at the owner’s risk.
Children are allowed to ride their OWN bikes on the BMX Track at break times. Helmets
must be worn at all times.

8. Canteen
Stirling North Primary School Canteen operates under a Canteen Manager who is
employed by the Governing Council, with the help of volunteers 5 days per week.
Lunches are ordered through a classroom system. Each classroom has a lunch order
bucket and orders are written on lunch bags and placed, with money, in this bucket. The
buckets are then taken to the canteen before 9.30am. Monitors collect lunches from the
Canteen just prior to lunchtime. Any change (money) will be sent to the classroom with
lunches. A supply of lunch bags can be obtained from the Canteen.
An updated Canteen Price List is sent home in the first week of each term. Counter sales
are available at recess and lunch times.
Help is always much needed in the Canteen. Denise Riding, Canteen Manager,
coordinates the Canteen roster and is keen to hear from people willing to help, whether
on a regular or a relief basis. Please call or leave a message for Denise via the School’s
Front Office (08) 8643 6020 if you are able to help.
The canteen committee is continuing their work in developing a Healthy Eating Policy
that will further influence the canteen menu and promote and educate children about
healthy lifestyle options. Additionally they are working on introducing an online ordering
system.
9. Allergy Aware Site
Stirling North Primary School is an allergy aware site. We have children who are
anaphylactic and request that children don’t bring any products containing nuts to
school. If students present with other allergies through the enrolment process individual
classes, staff and the canteen are notified to enable us to support children’s health and
safety requirements.
10. Custody & Access
Custodial parents are required to provide the Principal with a copy of legal
documentation regarding custody and access arrangements. This is important to ensure
the safety and well-being of all involved. Additionally, it is a legal requirement for both
parents to be included on enrolment forms. Without legal documentation the school
cannot deny access to children from an estranged parent.PARENT INFORMATION
11. Medications
All students must hold a current Health Care Plan for any ongoing Medications (e.g.
ADHD, Asthma).
Other medications can only be held and administered at school if the parent/caregiver
has completed a Medication Authority Form - this needs to be done on a daily basis.
It is preferred for medications to be in a Webster Pack. If not in a Webster pack
medication sent to school must be in its original packaging with the dose and students
name on the pharmacy label.
12. Reporting to Parents
Student progress and achievement is reported to parents in the following ways:
Term 1 - Parent/Teacher Interviews, Term 1, Week 8.
Term 2 - Written Report distributed at the end of Term 2.
Term 3 - Parent/Teacher Interviews. Term 3, Week 3.
Term 4 - Written Report distributed at the end of Term 4.
Class teachers also regularly use the SeeSaw app to share students’ work samples and
achievements and invite your feedback and comments back to students.
Parents may request a meeting with their child’s class teacher to discuss any issues or
concerns about their child’s progress outside of this formal reporting structure using the
communication avenues provided to make a time with class teachers.
13. School Card
The School Card Scheme is administered by the Department for Education and provides
financial assistance towards the cost of educational expenses for full-time students of
low-income families. It is not meant to cover all costs incurred for approved students.
To qualify, applicants will need to demonstrate they fall within the School Card income
limits as determined by DfE and make application each year by completing an Income
Assessment form obtainable from the School Office.
