season for war, but David got a little sloppy and sent the army to battle as he relaxed in Jerusalem. Because he was out of season, he let down his guard and it cost him far more than he ever bargained for. When it is time to sow, you don’t reap. And when it is time to reap, you don’t sow! You have to know which season you are in. There is a time to fight, and there is a time to refrain from fighting. Knowing which is which, is crucial in following God’s Will. ALIGNMENT TO OUR TRIBAL ANOINTING God puts us in families or tribes, and each tribe has a unique anointing. An important part of alignment involves getting into sync with our tribe. Our vibe attracts our tribe. Israel was a composite of 12 tribes and each tribe had a very unique tribal anointing. God designed it that way. This is why we have different churches with different ministries. God loves diversity, and it’s alright to be different. Depending on the tribe we belong to, we will come under a different tribal anointing. . No matter which church we belong to, it is essential for us to know what the Tribal Anointing over our church is. When I was asking the Lord this question several years ago for my own congregation, the Lord spoke so clearly to me from Zechariah 10:4, “From Judah comes the cornerstone”.
I knew for a fact that we derived our prophetic anointing from Judah, and it was my responsibility to study and see how Judah was wired. It is the responsibility of the senior leader of a church to discover which tribe his church belongs to, because once we know our identity, our mission becomes clear. If we know who we are, then what we do will just 4:16, he says, “from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.” (NKJV) Alignment is key! When we are rightly fitted, we will not only be able to contribute to the whole body, we will be edified as well. But if we are not aligned well, everything becomes off, and that’s where I think a lot of Christians slip today – They are out-of-joint, out-of-sync and out-of-step with the whole body because they are not rightly fitted. But when we are aligned or connected to the right parts, we are energised by one another.
Every year, more and more responsibilities are added to our plate, and if we don’t get into proper alignment, fatigue sets in quickly and that’s never good for a church. Thus, if we plan to do some heavy lifting, the sooner we get into alignment, the better. Allow me to narrow down the organisational equivalent of skeletal alignment to three specific areas: B Alignment to the Season of God B Alignment to Our Tribal Anointing B Alignment to Our Assignment If we can get into proper alignment in these three areas, you’d be amazed how much heavy lifting we can accomplish! The goal of alignment is not getting everybody into lockstep. It is getting everybody to move in the same direction, towards the common vision and goal.
ALIGNMENT TO THE SEASON OF GOD God moves in seasons and cycles and it is important for the church to know the season she is in. The problem so often is that the Head of the church moves in one season or direction while the Body moves in the other. Being out of season can cost us heavily. Doing the right thing in the wrong season is the same as doing the wrong thing in the right season. In 2 Samuel 11, we see David being out of sync with the season he was in. It was spring, the flow out of that; our mission and purpose flow out of our identity.
ALIGNMENT TO OUR ASSIGNMENT Each person is different and uniquely wired. There are five things that are unique to us – our thumbprint, eye-print, DNA, heartbeat and footprint. Our thumbprint represents our work, and that there’s no one else wired quite like us. Each individual is unique and valuable to the Kingdom. Our eyes are unique too. Do you know that each of us sees things differently from everyone else? This again is a very special feature built in to each of us. We are each given a very special and unique vision from the Lord, – a necessary insight to help us accomplish the task that has been assigned to us by God. Our DNA and our heartbeat (which represents our passion) differ significantly too. Lastly, our footprints, which represent our walk with God, are different, as He has specially designed a path for each and every one of us. What has God called you to do? Each one of us is wired differently to reveal the glory of God in a unique way. I feel that a lot of Christians are out of sync with their assignment in life, which is why they never come into a place of convergence. Everyone in the Body must fulfill a purpose, and every purpose needs someone fulfilling it. Everyone must be activated and serving. Service for the Christian is not optional. A non-serving Christian is an oxymoron. If you are not serving or if you are not giving, you are not living the Christian life. There are no passengers on board this ship, only crew members. All hands-on deck, from captain to cook!
It is my prayer that all students of this graduating class find their perfect place in the Body. Serving the Lord by first coming into alignment is so worth our while and so necessary to fulfill His plans and purposes in our lives. REVYANG TUCK YOONG, Chairman of the Board, Tung Ling Bible School Senior Pastor, Cornerstone Community Church On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to first congratulate you, the students of the graduating class of School of Ministry Term 1, 2018. I am certain you have had many defining moments in the past three months. As you graduate, I want to encourage you to keep pressing upward and onward towards the goal of the high call of God in Christ Jesus.
It is an interesting theme you have chosen, ‘Posture’. When we speak of posture, we are actually speaking of alignment. And there’s nothing more important for us as believers than to be rightly aligned to the season of our lives. When we are rightly aligned with the Body of Christ, we will not only hear God more clearly but the problems we face will start to fall away. The key is in the alignment! So what exactly do I mean by ‘alignment’? And naturally, the next question is ‘To whom am I aligned?’ ‘To whom has God joined me and to which tribe do I belong?’ When we are aligned to the right people, life flows and there’s divine contentment. It is interesting to note that when Paul was explaining how the church functioned, he used the analogy of a human body. In Ephesians 04 TUNGLING.ORG.SG TUNGLING.ORG.SG 05 Alignment is key!
rightly fitted, we will not only be able to contribute to the whole body, we will be edified as well. C H A I R M A N ’ S M E S S A G E POSTURED a n d F o r T h e S e a s o n ALIGNED “ ”
Mulling over the whole incident, I am reminded of the promises in Psalm 91: 1-4 1. He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!” 3. For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence. 4. He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark. In the Bible there are conditional and unconditional promises of God. Psalm 91 is an affirmation of God’s deliverance and protection when we are willing to posture ourselves under His covering.
As I think about the intriguing theme ‘Posture’ for this issue of the Polished Shaft, I want to first, commend you for choosing such a captivating word-theme. But more importantly, I want to draw some lessons from the above passage on how we can come under the wings of the Almighty. I like to suggest three necessary postures required on our part to stay under God’s divine protection and deliverance. 1. MOVE IN. “He who dwells in…” Psalm 91:1a The Hebrew word for “dwell” is “yashab” - to sit down; to remain; to settle permanently. To “yashab” requires the action of moving in and the posture of sitting, settling in and remaining there.
The Psalmist says those who “dwell.” Notice that the requirement is not just a quick ‘drive-in’ or visiting there occasionally, but a continuous state of being in and remaining there. Moses was consistently found in the tent of meeting with God. Samuel literally dwelled in the temple of God. David took delight to remain in the courts of the Lord. Jesus taught us, “Remain in me and I will remain in you.” (John 15:4) What about you? Are you constantly living from edge-to-edge, rushing from appointment-to- appointment, from sunrise to sunset, that you neglect to dwell in God’s presence? We all live hectic lives, but in the midst of our busyness are we postured to dwell in His presence daily? It does take intentionality, requiring setting aside time and making a deliberate choice to continually move in and dwell in His presence. If you have not moved in with God, then you are neglecting the need to posture under His covering.
Are you postured to dwell in the tent of meeting like Moses? We must learn to move in His presence daily! 2. MOVE UP. “…in the shelter of the most High” Psalm 91:1b The word “shelter” in Hebrew is “say-ther,” literally meaning “hiding place” of the most High (el•yo•vn – the name of God). Psalm 32:7 says, “You are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory.” In the hiding place or the high places where God is, you will encounter His hands of salvation. That is where you experience God’s provision and His songs of deliverance. “For He will give His angels charge concerning you. To guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and cobra. The young lion and the dragon shall you trample under feet.” (Psalm 91:11-13) When God’s shelter is your refuge and fortress, “no evil will befall you, nor any plague come near your tent.” (Psalm 91:10) The shelter is the promise of God’s provision.
As I think about the heater incident at home, I cannot thank God enough for His intervention and provision. God had provided his angels charge over the whole incident. Despite human carelessness, the faulty heater as it were, like the lion and cobra, cannot consume us. It is God’s provision of rescue and deliverance. Are you moving up to the shelter of the most high place where God is? Are you postured to trust Him for divine provision? If not, I encourage you to move up to experience His provision! The company could not believe that the water heater tank had ripped apart at its joint as it is designed to contain 23 litres of boiling water. They immediately despatched two engineers to investigate the problem. The engineers were rudely shocked to find that the piping had been wrongly installed. The pipe connecting the heater was installed at an angle which had restricted the smooth outflow of steam from the boiling water. The excess steam trapped within the tank and the pressure built up within had forced it to rip apart at the joint. It was dangerous and the situation had to be rectified immediately. It took a full day’s work to replace the water heater, mend the ceiling board and restore the cabinet. I was really upset with the negligent contractor who had installed the system. On the other hand, I was thankful that we had discovered the problem early. I cannot imagine the consequences of a boiling torrent of wrath from an exploding tank.
As I try to write this message, I cannot forget the chilling thought about a harrowing incident that happened at our home recently. Let me recount the incident for you. One evening, I found the cabinet shelves soaking wet. Every carton box stored in the cabinet was inundated with water. My husband did a physical check and found that the water leakage was from the water heater tank concealed above the ceiling board. On further investigation, we were horrified to discover that the water heater had a small opening at the vertical joint of the cylindrical tank. It was like a zipper being ripped apart and water was seeping out of the joint. We called the water heater manufacturer to express our disappointment with the quality of the tank. It had been purchased barely a year ago and was already tearing apart at its seam. P R I N C I P A L’ S M E S S A G E 3. MOVE UNDER.
“…will abide in the shadow of the Almighty” Psalm 91:1c To abide in the shadow of the Almighty is to be under the shade and defence of God where you are shielded from the harsh heat of the scorching sun. On many occasions, walking with my husband at the East Coast Park under the blazing sun, I would often take cover and get under God’s shadow for shade. When you get under the shadow of God Almighty, He will cover you under His wings like a mother hen protecting her chicks from prey and stormy winds. There is ongoing protection when you remain under His wings. It is not something that the Lord will do once-and-for-all. It is something that He is continually doing.
Therefore, “You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, the arrow that flies by day, the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor the destruction that lays waste at noon. A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.” (Psalm 91:5-7) Hence, you can truly say, “He is my refuge and my fortress!” (Psalm 91:2), “His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.” (Psalm 91:4b) Are you moving under His divine protection? Are you postured to walk under the shadow of the Almighty?
My heartiest congratulations to you on your graduation! My prayer is that you will continuously posture yourself under God’s covering. May you be encouraged to move in His presence daily, move up to the shelter of His unending provision and move under the shadow of His divine protection! Having lived in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, for the past 12½ years, I returned to Singapore for an extended summer holiday. I was prompted to attend TLBS at the end of September 2017, and after much confirmation from God, I decided to obey His calling and position myself at Jesus’ feet to be refreshed, refuelled and renewed. IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH My friends in Singapore say it’s great that I can live overseas, but life is never a bed of roses, and we need to go through the different seasons. Personally, I have gone through three near-death experiences: In 1973, I had dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF). In 2002 and 2007, I went through two major brain tumour operations. Thankfully, I continue to stay preserved in His overflowing joy and strength daily.
I came to know Jesus at the age of 16. However, I seldom attended church, and only did daily devotionals on my own, without a community. It was only in my early 30s after my first brain tumour operation, through divine appointments orchestrated by God, that I planted roots in a local church. I had been hospitalised over Mother’s Day in 2002. My mum had an English teacher then, whom upon hearing about my condition, brought along her cell group to visit and pray for me. As they prayed, I was filled with a complete sense of peace. After the operation, the healing process was so quick that I 16 TUNGLING.ORG.SG TUNGLING.ORG.SG 17 F E A T U R E BYJESSICA HO Hillsong Church Brisbane (Queensland, Australia) and THROUGH recovered completely within the month. I knew at that point in time that our God is so real, and that He still heals today.
Upon my speedy recovery, my husband, then a backslidden Christian, came back to the Lord, and my mum also gave her life to Jesus. My mum’s teacher connected us to RiverLife Church, and all three of us were baptised in December 2002. It was indeed a celebration filled with excitement, tears, and joy. I thank God that I came out of the tests, pain and sufferings in victory, and I know that nothing is too difficult nor too big for God to handle. He is always ahead of us, not just in preparing the way, but also in fighting for us and giving us the best. Truly, God is good.
‘The LORD your God who goes before you will Himself fight on your behalf.’ (Deuteronomy 1:30, NASB) IN MIGRATION AND SETTLEMENT Amidst all the blessings and favour, our family underwent various trials and tribulations, which helped us to grow stronger, wiser, and completely dependent upon our Heavenly Father. In 2005, my husband’s job required him to move to Brisbane. As an only child, I had to leave my parents, my church in Singapore, and my whole network of friends. It was a difficult ‘The LORD your God who goes before you will Himself fight on your behalf.’ (Deuteronomy 1:30, NASB) Our stay in Australia has been continually and abundantly blessed. Aside from the prayer ministry, God has blessed my husband and I with the opportunity to provide counsel for young couples preparing for marriage. I also oversee a women’s cell group, and another ministry that helps migrants gain conversational skills in the English language. By the grace of God, both my children are now in university, walking closely with Him.
THROUGH THE DARK VALLEYS When I look at Psalms 23:4, the dark valley is not just about death, but about all the trials in life where the shadows cover the light. I believe that the valleys I’d been through were purposeful, as God, the Good Shepherd, had guided me out of the valleys into a better place each time. He brought, and is still bringing me, to a place of refined faith where His glorious image can be reflected through my walk with Him. Through these valleys, I have learned to draw close to the Shepherd, to talk to Him and hear His voice. Through the valleys, I also learnt to press on and keep walking. Let us never stop praising Him through it all, because I know without a doubt that God will lead us out of these valleys eventually.
time. Upon moving, I had very few friends and had trouble finding a church for my family. My two children were very young then, and we needed to help them settle down emotionally and spiritually. But God is indeed faithful. Within three months of my stay in Brisbane, I found a local church to call home, which is now called Hillsong Brisbane. After we were connected to the church, another trial was presented to us. My family experienced four months of spiritual warfare. In that season, we learnt to put on the full armour of God and prayed fervently for a breakthrough. Through this ordeal, we came out of the battle victoriously, praise God! Little did we know that this experience had opened doors for my husband and I to lead a prayer ministry that facilitated the work of our Healer and Deliverer.
18 TUNGLING.ORG.SG TUNGLING.ORG.SG 19 F E A T U R E ERIC AND GEORGE The New Charis Mission “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” (Luke 9:23-24 ESV These were words spoken by Jesus to His disciples before His death, and they were also the same words that convicted Eric of his choice to take up the programme at TNCM after he was released from prison. At his first exposure to drugs when he was 16, Eric knew he was addicted to heroin, and this habit put him in and out of prison multiple times. By surrendering his life to Jesus, Eric overcame LiViNG iNFREEDOM We sat down with our classmates Eric, 60, and George, 61, both ex-drug offenders, to hear their stories. Both of them are currently part of a residential programme at The New Charis Mission (TNCM), a halfway house that enforces a lifestyle based around a fixed daily schedule, as well as work therapy, spiritual therapy and counselling. The programme has helped Eric and George experience a brand new chapter in life upon their release, and paved a way for them to attend TLBS’ SOM this semester.
Thinking that the end was near, having been caught in possession of 450 grams of heroin (the Misuse of Drugs Act provides for death penalty if the amount of pure heroin trafficked exceeds 15g), George recounted seeing another inmate praying in the cell as if he was talking to the wall. “To who?” he inquired out of curiosity, and received simply in reply, “Jesus.” “I asked him how to pray and he told me to talk to our Heavenly Father, and told me to tell Him whatever problems I have.” Out of desperation, George said his first prayer, “God, give me this last chance.” And from that moment, he began his relationship with his Lord and Saviour. This was in 2011. When the sentencing came around, it turned out that the 450g of heroin substance contained only 10g of pure heroin, allowing George to narrowly escape the death penalty. George was then sentenced to seven years – a fairly long sentence, but to George, this was an answered prayer. He then started attending counselling sessions, Bible classes, and chapel service in prison, and said the Sinner’s Prayer for the first time at a Christmas celebration in 2013.
“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” (1 John 4:18, ESV). Having lived a life of constant fear from the law, without purpose or direction besides the next shot of heroin, a life transformed and filled with gratitude was how George described his encounter with the living God. He acknowledged that if not for God, his life would have been lost, either to the hangman or just to his own depravity. “Without God, I am nothing. My life is saved by God, I can say that lah (sic).” With Jesus at the helm, George has been empowered to live every day without fear. Life now is very peaceful, aligned to a posture of complete surrender, choosing to follow wherever his Saviour may lead. TRANSFORMED AND SET FREE Although the temptation to return to old lifestyles surely came knocking at times, God has proven Himself to be Eric and George’s refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1, NIV). “It is when you think “ “ Only Jesus can change me. No other people.
Without God, I am nothing. My life is saved by God, I can say that lah. ” ” Eric George the temptations to return to the drug habit that had landed him behind bars. Each time Eric was incarcerated, he would identify himself as a Christian on paper. His sole intention then was to meet his friends at the weekly chapel service. While the preacher would go on, they would be having their own conversations at the back of the room. Although his sister, who is a Christian, had shared Christ with him at a young age, he never really knew God.
In his heart, Eric recognised that he did not have any true encounter with God. “Every time go out [of prison] I say I want to change, but [there’s] no way to change, when going out I just put Jesus inside prison and ownself (sic) go.” Everything changed at one of the chapel services, after a sermon on how one man should not serve two masters, when he felt a strong urge to respond to an altar call given by the preacher. Internally, he could feel the judging looks drilling into his back, and imagined the snide remarks made when his friends saw him going up. Still, he finally mustered the courage to respond. When prayed for, Eric felt God reaching out to him, and immediately broke down in tears. So convicted was he of the need for change that from that day on, he would be in the front row of every chapel service taking down notes, and would spend his free time studying the Bible. “Only Jesus can change me. No other people (sic).” For Eric, a freedom from the bondages of the past and the need for self-reliance has defined his new life.
NOTHING WITHOUT JESUS George’s faith journey tells of God’s relentless love and pursuit. Drugs had been a regular part of his life for almost 35 years. Having been in and out of prison 13 times, George lived in constant fear of any further run-ins with the law. So frequent were the visits from the police, it came to the point that he would not even dare to open the door whenever salesmen knocked. Still, one cannot hide forever, and fatefully, it was when George was caught for drug usage for the 13th time, while waiting in remand for his sentencing, that he met God.
difficulty in communicating with the other students, they have found the whole environment to be warm, welcoming and nurturing. Going forward, George hopes to use his skills to help out in prison ministry, and share with the inmates all that he has learned and experienced. Eric hopes to enter the mission field and has plans to go to Fuzhou, China, after the SOM term ends. “I want to testify of God’s love, give glory to God, tell of how God changed me and gave me a new life,” Eric said, “and I pray that my testimony will affect people and change people, that they will come to know Jesus”.
We concluded the interview by asking for a favourite verse, and John 15:5 came up: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (NIV) Truly, Eric and George are branches that have borne fruit. With their continued reliance on Jesus, abiding in His presence as He abides in theirs, we believe and pray that they will continually grow in their ministry as they walk in step with Him, and bear even greater testimonies about our gracious, loving and merciful God.
20 TUNGLING.ORG.SG to bring up the gospel. In mending broken bonds, Eric also had to learn to communicate with his sister, and has since gotten much closer to his family. For now, life at TNCM is a structured one, with allocated timings for morning devotion, meals, chapel services and volunteer work. While this may appear rigid, Eric believes that it is necessary and beneficial: “If not ah, like that I come out [of prison] and didn’t have the direction to go, I’d still go back [to drugs] again.” As part of the volunteer work organised by TNCM, Eric and George regularly visit the homes of elderly each week, speaking to them and sharing their personal testimonies, as well as helping to clean their rooms and paint their walls. Eric believes that the time spent serving the elderly has been very rewarding, and finds immense joy and peace in caring for them. “Last time I didn’t know how to love people, take care of people. Whatever thing is me (sic). But now I know that Jesus so loved us, so we also want to care for people.” TLBS’ SOM is one of many steps towards fulfilling their God-given destinies. While worried at first that their English language skills would not be up to par and hence cause you can, that you really cannot”, Eric told us in his own paraphrasing of Romans 7:19, and elaborated on how he learnt to swallow his pride and surrender his reliance on his own fallible human willpower in the fight against drug addiction. He recalled God giving him the strength and will to rebuke temptation in the face when he bumped into a friend from his past. For George, it is in these struggles that God’s faithfulness shone through. Whenever he prayed about having these struggles, God would tell him to stay in TNCM, a place where he could grow strong enough to gain victory. He has since learnt to trust and depend fully upon Jesus, whose “grace is sufficient… for [ His] power is made perfect in [our] weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9, NIV).
With God’s mighty hand upon them, transformation did not stop at these two men. God’s endless grace has also helped Eric and George find reconciliation with their families. Deeply moved, George recounted to us how his family had never given up on him over the years: “After I was in and out of prison many times, they still supported me.” He now visits them every Sunday, when given home leave from TNCM. Eric, whose mother had received Jesus before passing away from cancer, has been trying to reach out to his father. Once, when offered a cigarette from his father, Eric refused, saying, “Cannot, Jesus changed me”, and took the opportunity SIGN UP NOW! Registration is open for July 2018
22 TUNGLING.ORG.SG TUNGLING.ORG.SG 23 F E A T U R E W hat does it look like to “trust God with every fibre of my being”? How does it feel like? This is my story. I grew up staying at my grandmother’s place, and I never had a close relationship with either of my biological parents. I remember that although my mother visited occasionally, I had never felt her love nor presence in my life. After a bad dispute with her when I was in Secondary 2, I packed my bag, left the house, and never stepped in again. I wandered around on my own for close to a month, before receiving a call from my father inviting me to live with him. I did not know my dad personally. In fact, I knew nothing about him, but I was desperate and needed a place to lay my head.
So I went on to live with him, and got to know him as a father. He drank, smoked and gambled. We rarely had conversations. On many occasions when I leave for school, he would return home drunk, and by the time I got home, he would be out drinking. One day, he came home very drunk, and touched me. I woke up and left. Soon after, the police and the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) were involved, and I was sent to a home under the Child Protection Act. I stayed in When insecurities and memories hit me hard, it got easier every time I whispered:“God I trust you. Show me what it looks like to trust You totally.” the home for the next two years before I was adopted by Pastor Ian, whom I now call daddy. Because of my past hurts, I never truly understood what it looked like to trust God wholeheartedly, even though I had been a Christian for close to 12 years. In fact, it got harder as I grew up, because it is inevitable to get hurt by the people around you. Building a wall and protection around my heart was a natural thing for me to do, to protect myself against further hurts and disappointment. Ask me, maybe six months ago, I wouldn’t think that I would have attended TLBS’ SOM. I visualised myself going to Thailand for missions, or even working before thinking about what’s next after graduation, but God had other plans for me - I was offered a scholarship to attend SOM.
I remember sitting in class one day and the lecturer mentioned this verse: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways, submit to Him and He will make your path straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) I realised that all this while, I did not know how to trust God. It scared me that I had not been able to trust God wholeheartedly. Right there at my seat, I knew I needed to make a decision. It was not easy. It was really tough for me to recall all the pain, hurts and disappointment at the back of my head.
But since making that decision, I can gladly say that everything does get easier. It really did. When insecurities and memories hit me hard, it got easier every time I whispered: “God I trust you. Show me what it looks like to trust You totally.” Therefore, I am excited to continue this journey of discovering what it looks like to trust Him with every fibre of my being. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my adopted parents, Ian and Lilis, for loving me and being patient with me. I’m sure it has not been easy to love me, especially when I am really insecure. Especially to daddy, I thank God for using you to mend the wound caused by my biological father. Thank you for showing me glimpses of how a father loves his daughter unconditionally, so that I may come to know how much more our Heavenly Father loves and cares for me.
TRUSTING Every Fibre BY ROSLINA CHUA 3:16 Church I would like to end this story with a song written by a dear friend, Darrell. The lyrics speaks a lot and it is my heart’s prayer: KEEP ME ON FIRE Give me a vision Don’t let me settle for something small I make a decision To believe the impossible Unlock heaven As I shift my world Keep my eyes on the prize I press onwards to the call Keep me on fire, Lord Molten hot, never going cold Through the highs and lows I’m surrendering my will Turn my pain into passion, Keep my heart ablaze To do your will Help me see How my vision will unfold Give me courage I will not leave a story untold Spirit move If I believe I must pursue More than visions and dreams I will make it reality Bend me, Lord Have your way with me Shape me, Lord Into the man you want me to be I press on to the end Till the day I see you face to face And run into your arms w i t h “ ”
OVERhaul TUNGLING.ORG.SG 25 F E A T U R E T he date 29 September 2017 may not be meaningful to others, but it was a date of great significance to me. That afternoon, I was informed that my Information Technology (IT) job was deemed at risk as a result of organisational restructuring. I was assured that it was not performance-related, but rather the removal of an entire management layer globally to reduce costs. I had the option to seek alternative jobs internally or leave the Bank where I had worked for almost 39 years. “ For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV). ” This pronouncement jolted me from my life on the fast lane. It was time for a reckoning - to take stock and deliberate on my next steps. With my increasing work commitments, I had not gotten round to addressing gnawing issues in my Christian faith. It lacked spiritual power and breakthrough. I was in bondage to work and it took priority over family, health and sadly - God too. I was running on empty and wished to have my Biblical fundamentals revalidated BY RAYMOND YUE Bedok Methodist Church and realigned. Most of all, I yearned for the joy that comes from knowing that I am in the centre of God’s will for my life. The same elation that comes when a child successfully fits a piece of a puzzle into its rightful place – Wow!
“The God of Christians is a God of love and comfort, a God who fills the soul and heart of those whom he possesses, a God who makes them conscious of their inward wretchedness, and his infinite mercy: who unites himself to their inmost soul, who fills it with humility and joy, with confidence and love, who renders them incapable of any other end than himself.” Blaise Pascal. “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. Psalm 139:13,14 (NKJV).
I weighed my options, their opportunity costs and risks. I felt that this was the season to address my spiritual gaps even though it meant leaving “Egypt” and into the unknown. I prayed, sought counsel, left the Bank and entered retirement on 29 November 2017. I immediately enrolled myself into the SOM course in TLBS, to embark on my much needed spiritual overhaul. On orientation day (8 January 2018), Rev Yang, in his opening address, spoke on Divine Alignment and reminded us of our uniqueness and urged us to fulfil our God given assignment and destiny. In the first chapel devotion, Dean Ju announced the theme for this term: Posture – Sit, Walk and Stand, based on the book of Ephesians. I was amazed – the teachings and focus were exactly what I needed – as though it was customised for me. Praise the Lord! I have received confirmation that I had made the right decision. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV).
Every day was a revelation and blessing. The SOM curriculum is foundational and capable of rebuilding and transforming lives. To quote a few lessons learnt - True worship (by engaging oneself); The power of prayer and practical fasting; Being aware of the voice of reasoning when we hear God; Knowing our identity and the Father’s heart; God’s Word revealing our spirit, soul and body; Discipline, as part of character formation; Formally confronting moral sin as part of conflict management; Knowing our “elder brother” as part of digging into Jewish Roots; and the personal bible study process of Observation, Interpretation and Application. Such anointed teachings had opened my eyes and contributed to my spiritual overhaul. Hallelujah. I know my new season had just started and I could only map out my undertakings up to a year ahead with the rest of my journey open to the Lord’s leading. There will be challenges, doubts and adjustments to be made, but I am reminded of the biblical handles available for such times. They include Managing Your Thoughts (Proverbs 4:23), Personal Discipline (1 Corinthians 9:27), Community Support (Hebrews 10:25), and keeping in mind that we are worth more than sparrows (Luke 12:6) as we trust and obey our Lord in our calling (Matthew 28:20).
“When we walk with the Lord, in the light of His Word, what a glory He sheds on our way. While we do His good will, He abides with us still and with all who will trust and obey. Trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey”. John H. Sammis. I am grateful to the ministry of TLBS and would recommend SOM to anyone who is prepared to step away and invest in a life transforming encounter with the Lord. I know it happens because I had my spiritual overhaul done here. Shalom.
SCHOOL OF MINISTRY TERM 1 2018
Aaron Kwok, Church Of Singapore (Marine Parade) Coming to TLBS was a somewhat natural step to take, as I have just finished my university studies. It was easily a few years since I’ve received a “direction” from God and I wanted more. Through prophecies spoken upon me and open sharing with fellow brothers and sisters, these few weeks impacted me greatly, reinforcing the fact that God can be accessed and conversed with daily and with much joy. You never really “know” how real something is until you really feel it for yourself, and I look forward to an overflow!
Akhrieno Kuotsu, Zion Church (Nagaland, India) Starting off my year with TLBS was undoubtedly going to be an immensely blessed one. I came here expecting from God and through the weeks, God opened my spiritual eyes to a whole new level to see His unfathomable love in a deeper sense, and that only by adhering to His word will a believer develop a Christ-like character to stand firmly unchangeable in faith during any situation. “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11, KJV) Albert Emmanuel, Yishun Evangelical Church I heard about TLBS through my pastor and was interested to be part of this Family. I have learnt so many things through the exciting and engaging modules. I feel that God has a special plan for me and that He is willing to use me to build His Kingdom in a unique way. I can see so much change in my life and I am very sure that I am willing to go through any situation just to glorify the name of JESUS. All Glory and Honour to Christ Jesus! Alicia Tan, Hope Church Singapore By God’s grace, I was able to take time off work and attend TLBS in a bid to cut out the noise in this world and focus on my journey with Him. As I studied the Bible and understood more about God, I was left in awe of His love for mankind. I am now anchored to the truth that God is always for me, and I can praise Him every single day, regardless of my circumstance. “I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.” (Psalm 104:33 NIV) Amos Wong, Church of Singapore (Marine Parade) I decided to sign up for TLBS based on the thought that I wanted to better equip myself for my ministry, but I’ve learnt so much more than just that. Every module has impacted my life in such a personal way that I find myself hearing God’s voice almost daily. He has shown me hope and guidance in my ministry, as well as in my own personal life. Anthony Cunanan, Cornerstone Community Church (Marikina, Philippines) It was in 2013, a year after I was saved, that I had this growing desire to study at a Bible school. One day, a minister visiting our church prophesied that I would indeed be going to Bible school. From then on, I believed that this desire of mine would come to pass. Lo and behold, in June 2017, my pastor messaged me saying that she would send me to TLBS. Truly an answered prayer!
I got more than I expected, as I continually find myself growing from glory to glory, being transformed by the encounters I have with God. Benjamin Huang, Church of Singapore (Marine Parade) God has set me on a path to transform my worldview to a Christian one, and I have since begun my journey to seek out Truth in the person, Jesus Christ. In coming to TLBS, the lectures have either affirmed, anchored and/ or expounded, on my current foundations, continually strengthening them each week. I have also experienced daily the deep presence of the Lord amidst willing and burning hearts as we worship in Spirit and in Truth. Through much sharing of lives, I have found new hope in my God’s sovereignty, to remain steady in every struggle. Caleb Yam, New Creation Church I felt God impress upon my heart to enrol at TLBS. Returning to school after forty years was challenging. God knew I needed to learn afresh from the diverse and anointed teachers here. I enjoyed and loved every module! It was a rich experience and it opened a new vista of biblical truth that I would not be able to receive if I had not obeyed God. “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NLT) Aaron Kwok, Church Of Singapore (Marine Parade) Akhrieno Kuotsu, Zion Church (Nagaland, India) Albert Emmanuel, Yishun Evangelical Church Alicia Tan, Hope Church Singapore Amos Wong, Church of Singapore (Marine Parade) Anthony Cunanan, Cornerstone Community Church (Marikina, Philippines) Benjamin Huang, Church of Singapore (Marine Parade) Caleb Yam, New Creation Church You never really “know” how real something is until you really feel it for yourself, and I look forward to an overflow! Carol Sim, Faith Assembly of God Church “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:19, ESV) Courage and Isaiah 43:19 were the promises I held onto when I stepped into TLBS on Day One. How amazed I was to hear these same words declared over the class that day! From then on, every session was an adventure of digging deeper into the Word and discovering the richness of God as I learnt to sit at His feet.
Charis Koo, New Life Community Church (Malaysia) For years, I’ve had the desire to attend bible school, but the timing had never been right. It wasn’t smooth sailing, but God kept reassuring me that this was the right step. TLBS has been a much needed time of sitting and resting in His presence, as well as a humbling and inspiring experience. I’m excited knowing that He has much more in store for us all! “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19, NIV) Charmaine Lim, Wesley Methodist Church Coming to TLBS was part of my process of discerning what the next step in my life would be. I’ve found it to be a truly transformative experience – it has aligned my understanding of Kingdom values, convicted my spirit of areas in my life to improve on, and deepened my faith and my relationship with my Father. I am so grateful for this time of drawing away from my regular life to be closer to God, and TLBS has been such a safe and nurturing space for me. To God be the glory! Cheyenne Kong, Light of Christ Church Woodlands I decided to attend TLBS because of the exponential spiritual growth that I had experienced the year before, but I was unsure of what to expect other than being in an environment filled with people who love God. However, the song we sang on the first week, “The More I Seek You”, truly reflected my walk with God through 2016-2017 and how that had led to the deeper relationship that I have with God. Hence, I want to continue seeking God, so that I will find and know more about Him, and eventually fall deeper in love with Him. Chris Seow, Christ Methodist Church I had signed up for TLBS because my church thought that it would be good for me to attend some kind of theological training. I was totally blown away after finishing my first week! As described by a friend, every day was like Sunday - I get to worship God and I learnt new things. But most important of all, my relationship with God was deepened. Thanks to the many God-anointed speakers, my understanding of God grew in ways it would never have if I had just stuck to attending sermons, conferences and reading books. Thank You Jesus!
Christine Ho, Trinity Christian Centre With a desire to intentionally seek God and build a more intimate relationship with Him, I enrolled into TLBS. In addition to all the head knowledge gained, my heart was being changed daily as something was stirring within. I felt His love, reckless yet faithful, which left me in awe. Here, I’ve learnt what it means to take delight in Him and trust Him for His ways are higher. I am ready to let my Father God mould me into the child He wants me to be! Clarissa Kang, Cornerstone Community Church Trained as a designer, I relied on my own mind whenever it came to decision-making. The joy in seeking God for direction and answers never occurred – I was constantly striving. “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 3:16, NIV) This verse came like a project brief, except that this brief wasn’t from a client, but from God – a brief for my life, to commit to Him daily, and be in complete surrender. If God knows the Who, What, When, Where, How and Whys, my only duty then is to act forth in faith. Daniel Lam, Bedok Methodist Church I’ve heard about TLBS from friends and family, but attending it is a whole different story. Right from the first day, I was bombarded by inspirational lessons from lecturers who not only know the Word but also live the Word. God has been making major changes in my life the past few years, and these three months have equipped me with more tools that will help me deepen my relationship with God, and enable me to serve Him wherever He calls me to. God calls me firstly to be His son, before I am called to serve Him.

Emelita Dorias, Singapore Christian Canaan Church The desire to draw closer to God, hear His Word, and the aspiration to share the Gospel with my household and people in Philippines have motivated me to study in TLBS. I want to build a church in my hometown for Jesus! At TLBS, the presence of God is so strong, especially during worship, that I am able to talk to Him. The lesson taught on Character Formation impacted me most. I learnt that sinning is detestable to God and it affects my future generations. I learnt to trust God and rest in His provision instead of doing things my way.
Eric Lim, The New Charis Mission It has been my greatest desire to enrol into TLBS. My life was like a roller coaster. To be in TLBS is one of the greatest experiences and decisions in my life. TLBS helped me to discov er who God created me to be, and gave me the opportunity to focus on God’s Word. At school, I learnt to submit to God’s will and wait upon Him in every situation and circumstance in my life. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105, NKJV) Evangeline Prasanna Joseph, Yishun Evangelical Church I’d just finished my national examinations and had three months of break before continuing my next phase of education. I had never once considered going to TLBS. My pastor encouraged me to join TLBS but I was still doubtful. Eventually I decided to study in TLBS, a decision I’ll not regret to this very day. In TLBS, I’ve learnt that the hand of God is upon my life and He shapes us into a better person. I’ve been blessed abundantly. “We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8, NIV) Elaine Yam, New Creation Church I heeded God’s call to join TLBS. I thank God for this season to be away from all distractions and routines that I may still myself to hear and understand God’s Word and His ways, through His anointed servants. Their teachings brought a fresh and rich dimension to my understanding of the Word. Through the weeks, as I listened with a hunger to learn more, the Word became what Psalm 119:105 says “… a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” (NIV). It is God’s Word that gives me hope and life to walk on life’s journey. Elizabeth Pushparaj, Cornerstone Community Church I thank the Lord Almighty for choosing me and setting me apart even from my mother’s womb. He has given me an opportunity to come and learn in TLBS to equip me and to fulfil His plan. The lessons taught are moulding and transforming my personal life. The worship, devotions and “Early Bird Catches the Word” sessions were really encouraging. From Day One, I heard the Lord asking me to sit, wait and receive from him. “Wait on the Lord and keep his way and he shall exalt you to inherit the land.” (Psalms 37:34) Elshaddai Jeevanathy, Yishun Evangelical Church I have always wanted to be a worship leader but never had the opportunity to until I came to TLBS where I was given the chance! I was initially afraid and failed to trust in Jesus. That was until I learnt that fear is from the devil, and I have to rebuke it in Jesus’ name. I did so and my fear left me immediately, allowing me to fully embrace the gift given by God! Now, I feel nothing but joy whenever I worship the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Faith Kwok, Church of Singapore (Marine Parade) I am thankful for the opportunity to attend TLBS, and for my family who encouraged me and my brother to come together. Here, I learnt to posture and realign myself to God, and keep my eyes focused on Him instead of the things of the world. I learnt discipline in doing my daily quiet time, completing my readings and journaling weekly. I met many people from different places, of different ages, who shared their testimonies and gained a new perspective. Also, through being willing to step forth and sharing my experiences with these people, I gained valuable insights. George Ong, The New Charis Mission For 35 years, I was in bondage to drug addiction. I encountered God in prison and wanted to turn my life around. Upon release, I enrolled in a one-year programme at The New Charis Mission, where my pastor challenged me to attend TLBS. I feared talking to strangers or making new friends. My breakthrough came at TLBS. Through the lessons, I learnt that with the right attitude, I can posture myself for the blessings of God. Since TLBS, my beliefs were challenged, faith strengthened, and foundation deepened. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Germaine Koh, Living Sanctuary Brethren Church “Unending love, amazing grace” sums up what time in TLBS has been like. To be very honest, I first decided to come simply because it seemed like the ‘right’ thing to do in this season of figuring out where to go from here. But day by day, I find myself growing closer to Father God, distancing away from mere religion, and coming into His grace and presence just as I am. My identity is no longer in what I do or do not do, but in who I am and to Whom I belong, and for that I praise the Lord!
Gideon Chong Ying Song, Church of Singapore (Balestier) Initially, I was reluctant to attend SOM despite experiencing countless promptings in my heart. However, after various attempts of wrestling with God, I decided to yield fully towards this calling. As I adopt the posture of realigning with Him these three months, I thank God for His unchanging love that restores in wholeness. Whenever I weep over my failures and shame, God convicts me of His everlasting love instead of condemnation. Indeed, He is my God, my joy and my delight. “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.” Psalm 51:12 (NKJV) Gloria Lai, Bedok Methodist Church I had just finished a 3-month mission stint in Cambodia and was praying for direction for the next step. Initially, I was considering going onto Logos Hope but ultimately had to step away from that door. Soon after, I heard of TLBS and knew it was God prompting me to apply for it. He confirmed that decision to come here through people and scripture, and I know that He wants me at TLBS to learn, grow and be postured to hear His voice. Since being here, God has opened my eyes to the different facets of His character.
Grace Lee, Emmanuel Baptist Church (Kuching, Malaysia) I found myself stuck in the same routine every day and I desperately needed a change in my life, an answer to my calling and direction. Then I heard the call to come to TLBS. It wasn’t easy for me to leave the comfort of home but when you honour God, God will honour you (1 Samuel 2:30). Life in TLBS has totally stripped away my preconceived idea of who our God is, and has strengthened my walk with God and deepened my relationship with Him. I believe that God is healing hearts and transforming lives in our midst.
Holmberg Richard Paul, Every Nation Church Has anyone found it difficult not to be overly anxious when you are overwhelmed with storms in your life? I have. I cried out to the Lord for help and He reminded me to be still and that He is in control. I fully understand that even in my darkest moments, God has never forsaken me. All I need is to seek him. By faith, I enrolled at TLBS to listen and understand His word. I find this journey spiritually fulfilling and I am so thankful being here.“Be still and know that I am God”. (Psalms 46:10, NKJV) Hope P. Calo, New Life In Christ Fellowship (Philippines) It is my great desire to know God more and grow deeper in the understanding of His Word; this is one of the main reasons why I came to TLBS. To go out from my comfort zone is actually the hardest part of my life, but it is also the most fulfilling decision that I’ve ever made. In TLBS, I have learned to position myself in Christ, that in Him, I should surrender my whole being to have absolute victory. I thank God because I have been renewed and refreshed by His Word. (Psalm 23:1-3) Huang Guang Ci, Changi Baptist Church I had largely given God the backseat in 2017. I was primarily concerned with my own worldly pursuits. I knew I needed to experience God richly in 2018. Attending TLBS showed me that God is faithful, even when we’re not. He has not hidden Himself from me despite my disobedience. Instead, He speaks to me daily and reminds me of how there is fullness of joy if I would just seek Him. God has a good and perfect plan for me; moulding me daily, sharpening my ears to hear Him, and shaping me into a vessel that will bring Him glory. Isaiah Tan, New Life Baptist Church My time at TLBS has been nothing short of amazing. Through the various lectures and emphasis on the Spiritual Disciplines, TLBS has grounded my faith firmly through more than just an intellectual knowledge of the Lord, but also an experiential knowledge of Him. On top of that, the daily worship and devotion sharing, as well as my own quiet time in the evenings have truly immersed me deeply into the presence of God, saturating my inner life and filling up my spiritual tank. “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” (James 4:8, ESV) T E S T I M O N I E S Gloria Lai, Bedok Methodist Church Grace Lee, Emmanuel Baptist Church (Kuching, Malaysia) Holmberg Richard Paul, Every Nation Church Hope P. Jael Ong, Chapel of the Resurrection “Every branch in me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that does bear fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” (John 15:2, ESV) God has led me into a season of pruning; shaping, disciplining, and teaching me how to position myself humbly in a posture that aligns my heart to His. I have learnt to trust and have faith that He will make all things well for me. Nothing is impossible with our amazing Abba Father! My journey in TLBS has been fruitful, growing together with such an inspiring community and lecturers!
Janan Lim, Wesley Methodist Church I have been truly blessed throughout my time here in TLBS. The lectures have challenged, built, and got rid of certain ideologies that I believed in. TLBS has led me to take steps to correct the things in my life that have not been pleasing to God, and to start practices that honour our Father. It has provided me clarity towards my calling and affirmed me in the steps that I am about to take as I begin a new phase in life after my graduation from university, and has given me lifelong spiritual siblings to walk this journey with. Jeanne Liew, Grace Assembly Of God I received Christ at age 12. God blessed me in so many ways, and I tried my best to serve Him. However, I still felt that I lacked something, but could not pinpoint what it was. I began to realise later in my life, that I had difficulty having an intimate relationship with Papa God. All my attempts to please Him only frustrated myself. Then in His mercy, He placed a desire in my heart to enrol in TLBS. I have unlearnt many things, and God has renewed my mind and helped me to refocus on ‘the being’, rather than ‘the doing’.
Jedidiah Genesis S/O Velmurugan, Yishun Evangelical Church I was encouraged to go to TLBS by my Pastor. The past three years of my life have been a winter season for me in which I had a lot of disappointments and discouragements. However, once I came to TLBS, I felt that God was calling me back to stop depending on my own strength and to surrender myself to His purpose. Every day in TLBS has been such a refreshing experience! “The steadfast love of the lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23, ESV) Jereza M. Tenio, New Life in Christ Fellowship (Philippines) Going deep into my relationship with God is the main reason for coming to TLBS. While choosing this path has meant leaving everything behind, including my job, desiring the Lord with a sense of sacrifice is indeed a decision that I’ll never regret making. I’ve learnt the posture of resting and waiting upon the Lord, fully trusting His plan, for they are better than mine. I’ve learnt the need to know God in a deeper sense because it determines my response towards Him. The time in TLBS is my season of realignment, learning and preparation, to do God’s work in ministry. Jessica Ho, Hillsong Church Brisbane (Queensland, Australia) Every day in TLBS is a day to remember God’s great love, as I could sit at His feet to receive and rest in His presence while breathing in every bit of His promises for me and my loved ones. God works in great ways that fit me perfectly. He is such a loving Abba Father. Each day in TLBS is an experience as God puts His words and beautiful people in my life. God’s amazing love and grace have been washing over me, as if my oil is always refilled and never runs dry daily... His love endures forever! Job Lim, Living Sanctuary Brethren Church I was hesitant to join TLBS when I heard about it from my mother, but now I know that God has placed me here to encounter Him. These three months have changed my perspective in my walk with God and my attitude towards the people around me. TLBS has set a new fire in my heart to seek God more and more each day. I came to TLBS feeling dry in my walk with God, but through the different lectures, God has shown me what He wants me to do, and I am truly grateful for this experience in TLBS. Joel Lee, Living Sanctuary Brethren Church I left my church’s youth program and started to attend adult service and help in the children’s ministry, where God began to heal my heart. I was encouraged to attend TLBS since God had set aside enough time for me to attend. TLBS taught me the reality of God’s Love for me and it’s so comforting! I’ve had a renewed conviction to live my life as Christ did! “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” (Ephesians 1:7, NIV) T E S T I M O N I E S Jedidiah Genesis S/O Velmurugan, Yishun Evangelical Church Jereza M. John Cheong, St. John’s – St. Margaret’s Church My mum enrolled in TLBS a few years ago and after how she spoke so wonderfully of the school, I decided to enrol too. Throughout the course, there has been a theme of “posture” and it has been very apt. After a long period in National Service, it’s been great to have the chance to simply sit and receive from the Lord. Being exposed to different Christian perspectives and a refreshing depth in scripture has done a lot for my Christian walk and as I transition into adulthood, I feel ready for the journey ahead.
Jolene Cheng, Grace Bible-Presbyterian Church “How long will you lie there, O sluggard?” (Proverbs 6:9a, ESV) My response: “No longer!” From a position of passivity and laziness, God roused me into a position of proactiveness and alertness. It was the desire to know my Shepherd’s voice that gave me the push. God is transforming a sluggard into a soldier! I see this season in TLBS as an opportunity to sharpen my thoughts through discussions, deepen my faith through studying His Word and discipline myself through cultivating godly habits. With the Holy Spirit’s help, I look forward to be equipped for His Kingdom’s work.
Jolene Song, New Life Baptist Church It was a last-minute decision for me to come to TLBS, but truly it is by no accident that I’m here. I’m really grateful to be growing alongside God-fearing and loving people!! I’ve learnt that God can and will take care of all my fears as long as I come in total surrender to Him. When I acknowledge that God is Lord and King, there I am found in His perfect peace. God has done so much for me, yet we can only offer so little! I therefore choose to live in obedience and an abundant, overflowing joy.
Joshua Chang, Ang Mo Kio Methodist Church I came to TLBS feeling incredibly tired, burnt out and feeling very far from God. I resolved to use these three months to draw closer to God and learn about His plan for my life. These three short months have been life-changing for me; I have been blessed by my fellow siblings in Christ, the speakers’ stories of God’s work in their lives, and by God, who has been so real to me. “…and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8b, ESV) Joshua Pwee, City Harvest Church Since I came to TLBS, God has been speaking to me in many ways, from the loud words that the ministers pray over me, to the soft whispers that permeate my heart as I worship. He has been using both my victories and my mistakes to convict me of areas of my life that I had to deal with and improve towards Christlikeness. I thank God for His continued guidance and I pray that as I continue to surrender my life and my ministry to Him, He will lead and guide my every endeavour. Joshua Tan, Living Sanctuary Brethren Church “My child, listen and be wise…” (Proverbs 23:19, NLT) Initially, I enrolled in TLBS as I had three months of free time and my mom had strongly encouraged me to sign up. I had imagined TLBS to be like any other school, where I had to sit and listen to boring lessons being taught. But as soon as I stepped into TLBS on orientation day, I realised that it was nothing like what I had imagined. In fact, it was the complete opposite. During my time at TLBS, I’ve found myself so eager and excited for each new day of learning.
Julian Toh, Cornerstone Community Church Lonely. Ordinary. Struggling. Tired. Prior to studying at TLBS, that was how I felt: LOST. Notwithstanding my vehement reluctance towards attending TLBS, I have come to appreciate my time here. I have seen several positive changes in my life, one of which includes my changed “posture”. Strengthened. Optimistic. Affirmed. Renewed. This is how I feel now, and indeed, TLBS has helped me SOAR. “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31, NIV) Justus Soh, Bethesda (Bedok-Tampines) Church I came to TLBS seeking God for His plans for me in the future. However, during my time in TLBS, He instead revealed to me how much He loved me and how much of my heart He wanted: All of it. He has taught me what it meant to surrender, to be obedient and to live for Him. It was only when I chose to obey Him that I saw how God could use me. Through TLBS, God has revealed Himself to me in such a real and personal way. Seek Him and you will find Him.

Juuko Dennis Kisaakye, Cornerstone Community Church (Uganda) God called me into the teaching/pastoral ministry nine years ago, but I never had the desire to attend Bible college then. In 2010, I attended Zion Ministerial Institute, where God began moulding me into a golden vessel for future use. Clearly and strongly God spoke to me that He wanted me to go back to school, and little did I know He meant Bible college, hence making a way for me despite the opposition and challenges, to attend TLBS in 2018. God has continued to confirm His call upon my life, through the lessons and experiences at TLBS.
Kahvina Chandra, Cornerstone Community Church TLBS has made me realise how God cares about each season of my life and prepares me to face them only to come out stronger. My ‘O’ Level results could have been a bad start to 2018 but God changed it. Prior to receiving my results, I received a word to seek God first despite my results. I prepared my heart for the worst but still trusted in His perfect plan for me. True enough, my grades weren’t what I expected, but it became a platform for my faith to be tested and to choose to put The One first.
Keith Leo, Singapore Christian Canaan Church It was during my Polytechnic internship period in 2017 that I had decided to enrol into TLBS. At that time, I was serving quite extensively in church and was looking for a refreshing encounter with the Lord. At TLBS, I was recharged, with a new and growing spiritual hunger and thirst for God. The modules were enriching, and the lecturers were engaging! Kelvin Ng, Glad Tidings Church It never crossed my mind to attend TLBS. However, with the encouragement of my pastor and my two children, I decided to take the leap of faith despite my busy work schedule. The course has blessed me; especially in knowing God better, and gaining a deeper, broader understanding of the Christian faith. I learnt from my classmates as they shared about their experiences with God. The inspiring devotions and teachings have renewed my inner self and refreshed my soul. I hope to have the right posture as I walk with the Lord in the next part of this life journey. Kenneth Tan, Bethesda (Bedok-Tampines) Church I came to TLBS to prepare myself for the mission field. But my utmost joy since has to be a deeper understanding of the gospel. That Jesus did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped but came down to live a perfect life, saving us from the death of sin, substituting righteousness for sin on the cross. A love that is self-denying, looking for our interest above His own, so that we who were enemies of God, were reconciled to Him for His glory alone. My only response then is to love Him and others self-sacrificially. Kevin Choo, Covenant Evangelical Free Church After finishing my National Service, I felt spiritually dry. A desire to grow close to God was borne out of the lacking in my heart. However, I had become so deeply entrenched in my daily routine that I found myself helpless to my flesh. While I must establish that TLBS isn’t a cure-all for spiritual weakness, I personally did experience significant change after joining TLBS. In the company of like- minded believers, I found, more than anything, a positive influence to seek God anew. “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” (Psalm 23:1, NIV) Kevin Chow, Hinghwa Methodist Church I had time while waiting for school to start and I wanted to draw closer to God. As I was not close to God, I didn’t really pray except for mealtimes and during emergencies. Also, I never really thought that God would talk to me as He wouldn’t answer my pleas for help at times. However, I’ve learnt to take God seriously and that it would take time for healing to occur. I also learnt to talk to Him all the time, pray not only in emergencies but always, and praise Him no matter what, wherever and whenever.
Kezia Young, Gereja Bethel Indonesia LA (USA) I attended TLBS as God had led me to come here. It was quite a challenge for me to come because I am still studying in the United States, and the start of my university term had coincided with TLBS’ Term 1. Personally, I would never have thought to be studying in Singapore of all places, but I trust that God has a great reason for me to study here. God has been speaking, guiding, and teaching me through every lesson, more than ever before. I am very happy to be here, surrounded by my brothers & sisters in Christ! Leslie Choudhury, Eternal Life Assembly In 2017, I found myself preaching more than I had ever done before, by God’s grace. I also started leading a Cell Group; being a part of the EXCO (Cell groups) and receiving an invitation to join The Navigators Singapore in 2018, as an Associate Staff. Matthew 6:33 says “But Seek First the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and All these Things Shall Be Added Unto You.” (NKJV) God convicted me to treat 2018 as a sabbatical to sit at His feet, soak in His Presence, and learn because having deeper roots will result in greater fruits! Lilly Lee, Faith Methodist Church It is by God’s divine intervention that led me to TLBS through their website. From our morning devotions, the word Posture was introduced. The Holy Spirit convicted my heart that in this season of my life, my posture is to rest and receive – to have a spiritual rest that is found in Christ alone, and to sit at Jesus’ feet to listen to what He has to say. The Holy Spirit has since helped me break free of a baggage that I’ve been carrying with me. Now during worship, instead of tears, I’m praising God with joy and love.
Li-En Fok, Living Sanctuary Brethren Church Over the past year, God laid two things on my heart: get into the Word, and connect with other believers. I knew it was time to leave my job, so I enrolled in TLBS looking forward to sit at Jesus’ feet and rest. Since the first day, God has been speaking so clearly to me from the devotions, lessons, and Bible verses, affirming my decision to go to Bible school. My biggest takeaway is learning to recognise the voice of God and act on it, and I’m convicted to practice the spiritual disciplines and truths in my daily life.
Lim Seok Ching, Church of Singapore (Bukit Timah) I thank God for this season of my life that I can attend TLBS to learn to be still and be like Mary sitting at the Lord Jesus’ feet listening to His word. It’s a season of being in a “posture” of surrendering all to Him. The journey in TLBS has been an eye-opening experience for me. The revelations of the Word of God from anointed teachers deepened my love for Jesus. “You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am” (Psalm 139:3, TLB) Looi Ming Sheng, RiverLife Church My family converted to Christianity when I was in kindergarten, and that was when I started to experience Christian living (going to church, saying grace, reading the Bible, etc.). However, I only received the revelation of God being real when I was in secondary school, and things changed from there. God became more real to me through TLBS and I started to embrace the love of God, seeing how He actively pursues me. He truly is indeed a personal and relational God. Christianity being a relationship and not a religion had never been so true to me. Luke Ong, Faith Community Baptist Church As an individual who had been in church for a long time, I expected TLBS to teach me the Bible like how a textbook would, but I came to realise that many of my basic spiritual disciplines and knowledge of biblical truths were not strong enough. The lessons have helped me to not just rekindle my longing for God and in so acting on the Word, but also be able to reason the importance of such truths. I had the opportunity to learn about topics that I’d always questioned, but never had someone to bring me through, such as conflict resolution. Mabel Wong, Paya Lebar Methodist Church I had spent much time and money on physical pleasures of the world while neglecting my relationship with God. Though I was busy serving Him, it had been out of my own strength. I came to TLBS to sit at Jesus’ feet so that I can truly know and love Him with all my heart. TLBS has taught me how to truly worship God with my whole self and re-connect with God while spending time with Him. I’m on my return journey to Father God who loves me with an everlasting love, and never gives up on me! Matthew Leng, Cornerstone Community Church After much uncertainty and resistance to His call, I finally decided by faith to give these three months to a time of seeking God in TLBS, a decision that I have not regretted. God has been dealing with my heart and has challenged me to give my all for Him, not settling for mediocrity. It has been a time of rebuilding key truths and foundations of my relationship with God, and also discovering more of who He is. I have truly been blessed by the community in TLBS and I’m expectant for the next season in my life!

Matthew Loo Jun Kuan, Living Sanctuary Brethren Church Despite hearing wonderful testimonies from others, I enrolled into TLBS distracted by other pursuits. However, this term’s theme of Posture has prompted me to focus on discovering more about God. Indeed, it was eye-opening to be exposed to the many facets of the faith, but yet at the same time, I was also reminded not to neglect the fundamentals that make up my walk with God. I am now more equipped and encouraged to delve deeper in the word and live out the life God has purposed for me.
Mhalevinuo Tsurho, Zion Church (Nagaland, India) I am beyond blessed and fortunate to be a part of TLBS. Truly God has led me here to fulfil His plan for me in ministry by equipping me with the Word. In both spiritual and social aspects, it has simply been a blessing. God has renewed and shaped me to be aligned to His Word through thick and thin. “All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17, NKJV) Michael Carl D. Barcelona, Evangel Tabernacle (Iloilo City, Philippines) I had been called by God to be a pastor and a missionary, but I never knew how to get there. I prayed to God for a way to equip me, and God answered by having my pastors chance upon TLBS. Knowing my call, they got me enrolled. Indeed it was God’s plan to have me in TLBS. Here I learned to go deeper with God by fervently praying and waiting upon His voice. I am so blessed, and have also become more equipped for the mission field. Through His promises in Jeremiah 29:11, I believe God has more plans for me.
Michelle Tan, Bethesda (Bedok-Tampines) Church As 2017 came to a close, my soul was desperate and weary from the disappointments of the year. At the start of 2018, I told God that if it was His timing for me to attend TLBS, He would smoothen my path despite the circumstances that stood in the way. When God flung the door open, my heart was tested to undivided obedience and surrender, to fight the world’s logic, and to go – in faith. My journey to and during TLBS has enlarged my faith and postured me to align with the Father’s heartbeat and dwell at the Living Water.
Natasha Lim, Church of our Saviour Attending TLBS has been very refreshing and renewing to my inner man, as I sought to return to the Father in childlike faith, grow deeper in His truth and yield to His Spirit. In a season of seeking answers amidst much unrest and confusion, God touched me through various speakers, classmates and worship sessions by revealing His character and heart for His children. I learnt to surrender and trust Him daily. Through this posture, God has been renewing my mind, bringing clarity and peace by His grace. As I drew near to Him, He truly did draw close to me.
Noel Lim, Bethesda Pasir Ris Mission Church I have always felt that God wouldn’t talk to me. God seemed so distant and my prayers became one-sided conversations. I felt empty and confused. Why couldn’t I hear His voice? Coming to TLBS has taught me that God speaks to everyone – even to the immature believer and the unsaved! The only difference is the ability to discern His voice from the distracting background noise from the world and our flesh. This learning point, along with the many other lessons I’ve already learnt, has aided me in my understanding of God and my faith.
Ong Shi Juen, Church of Singapore (Marine Parade) After the first day of TLBS, I understood why my friends were so excited when they were there. There is just something about being and learning in the presence of God together with believers who are on fire for Him. Thus, I looked forward to the weekdays – something that was unusual for me. “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6, NIV). I now understand and can relate to this verse better, and I don’t mean using it as an answer in my exams.

For 2018, the theme is ‘Grow deep and wide’. Once again, it’s timely that I’m starting the year growing deep in God right here in TLBS. I have learnt so much and God has deposited His truths, insights and revelation through all the various lecturers. I’m enjoying every moment in TLBS. I’m forever grateful to Him! Owh Mee Yong (Hou MeiRong), Church of Our Saviour Since I was introduced to Christianity from young, I had always longed to attend Bible college. However, I had to put off the thought again and again because of family commitments. The big decision to enrol with TLBS came after my health took a drastic turn last year. I really wanted to fulfil this desire of my heart to draw closer to God, as well as to emphasise the need to seek Him for my children while we still have the time and strength, for indeed God is very good to us.
Rachel Chia, Living Spring Fellowship “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5, NIV) This verse was one reason why I enrolled for the SOM Course in TLBS; to draw closer to God. Interestingly, the words given to us by Rev Yang and Dean Ju from the start of the course were “Alignment” and “Posture”. Through the lectures, I came to the conclusion that when I am able to love God wholeheartedly, which is the right posture, divine alignment will take place.
Raymond Yue, Bedok Methodist Church I had been busy with life and running on empty for a while. As such, my desire to step back to refocus became increasingly urgent. I thank God for the opportunity to attend TLBS where I had my spiritual posture realigned. The curriculum is practical and addressed foundational principles that I needed to be reminded or assured of. I sat and allowed all the anointed teachings to renew and inspire me. I have been blessed and for that, I am grateful. “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit’ says the Lord Almighty”. (Zechariah 4:6b, NIV) Rebecca Jani, Yishun Evangelical Church 2017 was an arduous journey, with many obstacles, disappointments and heartbreaks. I was upset that I couldn’t enter TLBS then, but continued to have faith and prayed, while proclaiming His Word daily: “I will not cause you pain without allowing something new to be born, says the Lord” (Isaiah 66:9, NCV). By God’s grace, my prayers were answered in 2018, and He has been moulding me ever since. I feel privileged and honoured to be in God’s presence, seeking His face daily. TLBS has allowed me to posture and align myself to Jesus. Praise and glory to our Lord Jesus. Roslina Chua, 3:16 Church Ask me, maybe six months ago, and I wouldn’t even have thought about attending TLBS. God has been so amazing. Having “blow my mind” moments every two to three days is just crazy and exciting. I remember sitting in class one day and the lecturer quoted Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV). It dawned upon me then, to think about what it looks like to trust the Lord with all my heart. I’m excited to go on this journey with Abba to continue to discover what it looks like to trust Him with every fibre of my being. Ruth Lam, Hakka Methodist Church In my late teen years, I gained a greater interest in the Word and Spirit. I desired greater knowledge of the Word, and I desired greater intimacy with His Spirit. Yet, I struggled with busyness and the lack of discipline to sit at His feet. This season is an opportunity to do just that – sit and soak in His Word and Spirit. I am extremely grateful for the insightful sessions, daily corporate worship and plentiful testimonies. I am reminded to ‘do life’ from a posture of rest – in His love, grace, peace and power. Praise the Lord!
Ryan Ong, St. Andrew’s Cathedral I came to TLBS to deepen my relationship with the Lord, raise my spiritual awareness and solidify my conviction in God. At TLBS, I’ve learnt how to hear God more clearly and reflect Christ in my ways. My time at TLBS has been a spiritual experience. “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:6, KJV) Samantha Koh, Elim Assembly of God The first few weeks at TLBS was really a roller coaster for me. Even though I knew that this was exactly where God wanted me to be in for the first three months of the year, I was still apprehensive as I was struggling to surrender different areas of my life to God. But I thank God for His faithfulness in never giving up on me through it all. God began to do a work in my heart through the different modules. T E S T I M O N I E S I thank God for the opportunity to attend TLBS where I had my spiritual posture realigned. The curriculum is practical and addressed foundational principles that I needed to be reminded or assured me. Seah Sin Peng, Kingdom Community Church I thank Abba for His extravagant love and grace to allow me a time of resting and feeding at TLBS, which has been my deep desire and dream. Sitting at Abba’s Feet, feeding on His Word and fanning myself “hot” in fire for Him is a heavenly indulgence! Better is a day in His courts than a thousand elsewhere. The lecturers at TLBS not only taught us but showed us how to love and live for God. I am so inspired and captivated by God’s love that I stand obediently before Him and say, “Daddy, launch me for Thy Kingdom!” Seet Choon Chien, Christ Methodist Church God affirmed my decision to come to TLBS with Psalm 27:4 - “To dwell in the House of the Lord and to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him.” This was in line with this term’s theme on Posture. I thank God for this divine invitation to come sit and soak in His presence daily, to experience His intimate love and to go deeper with Him through the teaching from the many inspiring teachers who have experienced close intimacy with God.
Shawn Tay, Salem Chapel “The Lord is my shepherd, and I lack nothing.” (Psalms 23:1, NIV) Before I made the decision to attend TLBS, I was confused and disarrayed by my own prayer walk. I started drawing away from God and eventually ended up lost and spiritually dry. However, He has never drawn away from me and going to TLBS really opened up my eyes to the grace and mercy that He has poured out over me. Let us continue to seek Him daily and dwell in His presence, for His grace is sufficient and His mercy endures forever!
T E S T I M O N I E S Slevin Chua, The People’s Bible Church Entering TLBS, I expected God to equip me greatly for His purposes. I wanted to run fast, soar high and reach for greater heights. However, before I could soar, God led me to the place of brokenness. He searched the crevices of my heart and surfaced out areas He found wanting. He convicted me to reconcile my relationship with Him, with family and with people. It was excruciatingly painful but by His grace, He gave me strength to overcome. Indeed our Father disciplines the one He loves. He restores me to wholeness and now my soul delights in Him alone. Soong Li-Anne, Bethesda (Bedok-Tampines) Church I took interest in TLBS after hearing many testimonies from my church leaders. I resolved to set aside time seeking God but more importantly, to gain in-depth knowledge of the Word. Yet, through the first few sessions, God clearly told me to first seek after His heart and worship Him in spirit and truth. It’s one thing to know about God, but it’s another to be in an intimate relationship with Him. With the change in posture came a new joy, encountering God every day and a renewed purpose in loving God and drawing near to Him as I serve Him. Stephanie Loy, Living Sanctuary Brethren Church At the beginning of my university summer break, I felt that God was bringing me into a new season of rest and restoration, in preparation for the upcoming school year. Through His divine plan, He opened the door for me to attend TLBS, and it has been an amazing experience. Each and every teaching has spoken to me, and I have gained much from just this short period. I thank God for His goodness that exceeds all expectations, and I look forward to what He is going to do next in my life.
Syaza Agape, Cornerstone Community Church Attending TLBS was never something I’d thought of, yet God always has better plans. In 2017, my life was in shambles. I received words that 2018 would indeed be the start of something greater. I was hopeful. God threw a curveball and I ended up in TLBS but I’ve gained so much from simply knowing His heart, His people and loving everyone here. In times of loneliness, God never fails to reassure me with this verse, “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed for I am your God.” (Isaiah 41:10a, NKJV) Timothy Lim, Cornerstone Community Church I thank my Father God for leading me through His Spirit to TLBS. Right from the first worship session, God’s presence was so tangible amongst His children as we worshipped and lifted up His name. This journey of posturing at my Father’s feet and aligning my ears to His voice was transformational and extremely precious before I begin my career. Thank God for His goodness and faithfulness! “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passion and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” (Galatians 6:24-25, NIV) Seah Sin Peng, Kingdom Community Church Seet Choon Chien, Christ Methodist Church Shawn Tay, Salem Chapel Slevin Chua, The People’s Bible Church Stephanie Loy, Living Sanctuary Brethren Church Syaza Agape, Cornerstone Community Church Timothy Lim, Cornerstone Community Church Soong Li-Anne, Bethesda (Bedok-Tampines) Church I thank Abba for His extravagant love and grace to allow me a time of resting and feeding at TLBS, which has been my deep desire and dream. Timothy Sim, Impact Life Church As the new year came about, I felt that God was doing a new thing in me for a new season in church, the various ministries I serve and lead in, my lifegroup, and even my job. Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV) kept popping up all over my life prior to and even during the first week of class. This was no coincidence! As I venture forth into this new year, I pray for God’s Word and direction to become clear and for it to nourish me as I feed on the spiritual manna and realign myself for the season ahead! Tony Soh, St. James’ Church After working for 27 years, I wanted to take time off from work to go deeper in my spiritual walk. As I pondered enrolling at TLBS, I was reminded of Luke 10:38-42, where Mary adopted the posture of sitting at Jesus’ feet to listen to his teachings. I realised that I had been like Martha, busy with many things, including trying to serve God. In this season, God has graciously set apart time for me to sit at His feet, to experience restedness and the joy of soaking in His presence. This has been “Mary” time for me!
Valerie Chang, Bethesda (Bedok-Tampines) Church I was seeking God for a direction and a fresh encounter with Him during this season, and I chose to attend TLBS to experience Him first- hand. I heard testimonies after testimonies of encounters with God, but I had wanted my own. As I waited on God’s guidance for which university course to take; I was pleasantly surprised when told that “posture” and “aligning with God” were the themes for this term. This was where I could rest in Him and know that I will find Him when I sought Him (Jeremiah 29:13). This is where I experienced MY God moment.
Van Khaw Nem, Pattamya Christian Church (Yangon, Myanmar) I thank my gracious Father for this privilege to attend TLBS. I came to know how important the posture of sitting before God was. He revealed my struggles and freed me from my fears, pessimism, and envy, renewing me to pursue Him again. By experiencing how deep the Father’s love for me was, I have been reminded and strengthened to love the people at my ministry in Myanmar. I thank God for equipping me to continually walk in this spiritual journey with Him.
I’m so over- whelmed by the inspirational and revelational teachings each day. It feels like a drop of fresh and life- giving water falling to the depths of my heart, causing me to cling more strongly unto God my loving Father. Viola Nanziri Vanessa Wang, Church of Singapore (Marine Parade) I decided to come to TLBS when my cell leader recommended me to go for this course for three months. Since my graduation was in the month before school started, I figured that I had to spend time seeking God before moving on to the next phase of my life. Having struggled in my relationship with the Father, I am thankful that He has provided me this opportunity to learn more about Him and seek Him earnestly with brothers and sisters from other churches. This course also allowed fellowship between brethren in Christ I would never have experienced otherwise. Vanessa Yeo, Church of Singapore (Marine Parade) I came to TLBS seeking direction for a new season ahead. Personally, it is a time to know more about His Heart, Word and Purpose for me. He has, time and time again, revealed that His love is enough, and that He is there to guide me in my paths as long as my heart was in the right posture. He has proven to be faithful in unearthing fears that I myself was unaware about. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear…” (1 John 4:18a, NKJV). To God be the glory!
Victor J Wong, Immanuel Pentecostal Church (Indonesia) As a full-time ministry worker in church, I attended TLBS to be edified and better equipped. As a soldier coming down into the battleground, I took TLBS as the best arsenal for me to get geared up. But what I had gone through in the early weeks at TLBS was simply beyond my expectations. I could sense the presence of the Heavenly Father in every single second spent in class. My only regret is that I should have come to TLBS a long time ago. Viola Nanziri, Cornerstone Community Church (Uganda) I’m so grateful for the opportunity granted to me to study in TLBS. I had desperately yearned to spend my days in TLBS this year, abiding in God’s presence and experiencing His intimate love. I’m so overwhelmed by the inspirational and revelational teachings each day. It feels like a drop of fresh and life-giving water falling to the depths of my heart, causing me to cling more strongly unto God my loving Father. John 15:5 has become so significant for my destination that I should never forsake it.

T E S T I M O N I E S Wang Weishun, Cornerstone Community Church 2017 was a year of changes and transitions. Starting the year looking for a church, it wasn’t until June 2017 that I finally settled in Cornerstone Community Church. It was through God’s perfect and divine timing that I am here today in TLBS. Looking back, 2017 would have been impossible without the grace and favour of God. I was constantly reminded to keep my eyes on Jesus! “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, ESV) Wange Li, Church of Singapore (Marine Parade) Last year, because I knew that I would have a long holiday in 2018, I asked God if I should spend three months studying in TLBS. I heard a very definite yes and knew it’s God’s will for me to be here. The verse that God gave me for this year is Psalm 32:8 (NIV) “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” I believe TLBS is the place where God will use to teach me His will.
Wendy Tan, Hope Church Singapore I thank God for leading me to TLBS through my friends, to help me get out of my comfort zone and have spiritual discipline; drawing my heart closer to seek Him more! In line with this term’s TLBS theme - Posture! A shift and change is really uncomfortable and painful for me, but I’m getting better with God’s training for me in TLBS, dwelling in His presence during worship every day, prayer and through His word. I want to continue to have this posture walking closely with God and knowing my Father’s heart even after my time in TLBS. Wilbert Tang, RiverLife Church Having just finished Junior College, I came into TLBS simply wanting to be refreshed and recharged before I enter a new season of serving in the Army. However, as I began to allow God to speak into my heart through the different speakers each day, my posture slowly changed. As I learnt more and more about the nature of God, especially the heart of the Father, I found both my outlook towards life and my character becoming more Christ-like. I’m really thankful that He has revealed more of Himself to me each day. (Philippians 1:6 ESV) Yap Kai Xing, St. John’s – St. Margaret’s Church TLBS has been a point of inflexion and a resting place in a time of transition. Being here has taught me to entrust an uncertain future to a certain God, and has helped me find that coming to the end of myself is not frightening but freeing. “I pray...that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him.” (Ephesians 1:16-17, ESV) Zayienuo Zaphou, Christian Revival Church (Nagaland, India) Signing up for SOM has been a confirmation as the word of God speaks to me; “My ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9, NKJV) God promises that there’s something better up ahead and we just have to trust Him, as He brought me here at a perfect time, a perfect place called TLBS. In this journey of seeking direction for His higher plans, I learnt to walk in His will to hear His voice, and walk in obedience, and that will draw me nearer and deeper to His side.
Zowie Chan, Living Sanctuary Brethren Church God indeed is a great Father! Initially I was not able to enrol at TLBS but He made the impossible possible! At TLBS, I was reminded again that REST does not mean doing nothing but it means to REST IN HIS PRESENCE. God revealed the true meaning of Psalm 27:4 to me and it refreshed my soul. Surely the only thing I need is to dwell in His house all day long and gaze upon how great, how beautiful and how loving my Father in heaven is. Thank you TLBS for providing such an incredible experience for me.
Joanna, St. John’s – St. Margaret’s Church I feel very blessed to be able to attend TLBS. Just picking up gems of gold from men and women of God who have been, and are still living their lives doing what they do for His glory, refreshes my spirit. Their lives, how much they know the Word, and how they love the Living God is truly stirring me up, encouraging me to do likewise. All simply because He is Worthy! Wirul, City Harvest Church I have learnt to recognise God’s voice more and more and many of my theological doubts have been cleared. The experiences I had in TLBS make me want to always live a life of obedience to God and also to actively practise spiritual disciplines so that I can have more of His anointing and His presence wherever God has called me to be. I also am thankful for the divine connections that I have made in TLBS, may we never lose our wonder in the things of God even as TLBS alumni.
