Southern Cross University is a different kind of university. We combine academic and research excellence
with outstanding learning opportunities and a commitment to what matters, from protecting and managing
our precious natural environments to understanding and advancing our human world.
All three of our main campuses at Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast and Lismore offer something unique, thanks to
their locations and the vibrant communities that live in these subtropical areas.
Whether you study at one of our beautiful campuses or online, we are focused on developing the industry-
relevant skills, experience and knowledge you need to forge your 21st century career.

Site of the Larval Restoration Project at the Marine World pontoon, 45km off the coast of Cairns. The globally significant project, led by
Southern Cross University’s Professor Peter Harrison, aims to regenerate the reef by harvesting coral sperm and eggs, growing new larvae
and releasing them back onto heavily degraded sections of the Great Barrier Reef.
Southern Cross University acknowledges and pays respect to the ancestors, Elders and descendants
of the Lands upon which we meet and study. We are mindful that within and without the concrete and
steel of buildings, these Lands always were and always will be Aboriginal Land.

“My grades weren’t very good in high school. After graduation I entered the
workforce and almost completed a trade apprenticeship, however what I really
wanted to do was to follow my passion for the ocean and turn it into a career.
When I found out about Southern Cross University’s Preparing for Success at SCU
Program I wasn’t sure if I was even capable of studying. I really went in with no
expectations, but to my surprise, I did quite well. It prepared me for studying, got
me the grades I needed to enrol and taught me the skills to do well at university.
I’m over halfway through my degree now and the subjects are really interesting. We
go on field practicals to rockpools, beaches, rivers and I’ve also done my scuba dive
instructor course down in Coffs Harbour. I was also selected for the New Colombo
Plan Scholarship and this has enabled me to study extensively overseas.
I want to be a coral researcher so I’m planning to do my Honours and then a PhD
after my degree.”

Quick Course Guide 25See the world while you study
You don’t need a gap year to see the world; you can have
fantastic travel experiences while you study. It might even
count towards your degree.
From Sweden to Indonesia, Southern Cross has partnership
agreements with dozens of universities abroad for a session-
long exchange.
Most courses also offer short-term programs or study tours
abroad – some even have generous scholarships to pay for
your travel and living expenses. Studying overseas provides
you with amazing opportunities to expand your unit choice,
travel, meet new friends and form global networks.
If your course includes an internship, consider an overseas
placement – the experience of living and working in another
country is invaluable in a global career market.
