Impact of research
• Dr Zhang’s research findings that investors require a higher
rate of return as a compensation for holding illiquidity stock
have important implications for both corporate managers and
policymakers. Corporate managers can lower their cost of capital
by taking steps to increase liquidity. For policymakers and
regulators, reforms to increase the liquidity of financial claims have
the potential to stimulate economic growth by lowering the hurdle
     rate for investment projects.
