National Seminar on Sustainable Rice Production Technology
for Increasing the Farmers' Income (NSRT-2018)
January 20-21, 2018
Theme
Rice mechanization, System of Rice Intensification, Innovations in rice production
technology, Conservation and managements of engineering inputs, Soil and water
conservation, Agro processing and value addition, Precision agriculture and economics
of rice production system.
Background
Rice, the main cereal crop of India is grown under varied agro-ecological situations. It is
a key element of Indian food security contributing 42 per cent of the total food-grain
production. Mechanization of rice cultivation is the proven method to increase land
productivity by timely completion of farm operations. It increases labour productivity,
reduces drudgery of human & animals and increases production by precise & efficient
utilization of inputs. The country has developed considerable rice technology and there
is still a yield gap. The average yield of rice in India is much lower compared to the world
average, in spite of 52.3% of rice production area being under irrigation. Rice
cultivation methods have gone through numerous alterations from traditional (Biasi)
to modern such as System of Rice Intensification (SRI) under puddled soil condition and
drilled or planted rice in pulverized seedbed, all providing comparable output. As the
food requirement increases with the increase in population, greater production rate
will be required. Thus, by developing technology which not only improves the
productivity, but also provides a chance to boost the cropping intensity and further
helps in increasing the farmers' income.
Keeping in view Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV), Raipur, Chhattisgarh
and Tata Trusts, Mumbai is organizing National Seminar on Rice Production
Technology-2018 (NSRT-2018) at IGKV, Raipur during January 20-21, 2018. The seminar
will bring together scientists, engineers, technologists, government personnels, NGOs,
industries, stake holders, farmers and students working for the benefit of rice growing
farmers.
Objectives
1. Discussion on the innovative technologies in rice production and mechanization in
      System of Rice Intensification.
2. Selection of energy efficient and cost-effective mechanization technology to
address the priority mechanization issues of rice production systems for increased
      productivity.
3. Sharing of the experiences of the stake holders in sustainable production of rice to
      increase the Farmers' Income.

Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya was established on January 20 , 1987 in Raipur to
provide a new dimension to the agricultural development of Chhattisgarh state, which
is known as the "Rice Bowl". The main aims of the university are to provide education,
research and extension in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering and Horticulture
subjects. The university is working for entire state comprising 27 districts in all the three
agro-climatic zones. The university is known nationally and internationally for its rice
research especially in rainfed ecosystem and large germplasm collection of rice and
Lathyrus. It conducts the region specific basic and strategic research and transfer of
technology apart from quality agricultural education to the farming community of the
state. Currently university offers UG, PG and PhD programme in all the subjects of
 Agriculture, Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering.
