FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS
Apprenticeships Queensland, in conjunction with training partner TAFE
Queensland, is excited to announce the next project house for Certificate I in
Construction, a work ready program for school students.
Students will learn a broad range of practical skills including, tiling, plastering,
painting, carpentry, cabinetmaking and landscaping. Also, students will
experience how an actual job site works and the importance of work ethics,
reliability, attitude, enthusiasm and initiative – all the qualities host businesses are
looking for in new start apprentices.
KEY POINTS OF THE PROGRAM: Students will gain experience working on a live job
site, assisting qualified tradespeople with the renovation.
The course will be run Monday to Thursday with students required to attend 1 day
a week over 4 terms, 7:30am - 2:30pm.

Bridging courses to meet UNI subjects

prerequisite or assumed knowledge subjects at school can gain this knowledge through
a bridging course before they start university.

QUT Update for VET Qualifications
For entry in 2022, QUT will continue to accept AQF VET qualifications (Certificate IV and above) for
any Year 12 student who graduates with a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or
equivalent, ATAR or International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBD).

Students will also be able to use the selection rank from their VET qualification for entry. As a guide,
minimum selection ranks for AQF VET qualifications are 87.00 for a completed diploma and 74.00
for a completed certificate IV. QUT will use the strongest of your ranks for entry, which may be your
VET qualification, ATAR or IBD.

This option is available for entry in 2022 only. Students who wish to          Visit QUT's Website
take a gap year should still apply for 2022 and then defer their offer.               HERE

QUT Diplomas and Undergraduate Certificates
In 2021, several pathway programs were introduced for domestic students through our QUT
College. Students can apply for a diploma in business or engineering and upon completion, will
have a guaranteed pathway directly into second year of the relevant QUT degree.
Undergraduate certificates were also offered in information technology and nursing for students to
develop foundational knowledge in these areas and use as a taster to help them decide further
study options and career pathways.

Griffith University Tertiary
                        Access Payment Plan
Griffith University is offering a Tertiary Access Payment (TAP) Plan FOR SCHOOL LEAVERS IN
YEAR 12 IN Outer regional areas who are relocating to study at institutions at least 90
minutes away from home via public transport. The bursary is for students accessing tertiary
study in the year immediately following their completion of Year 12 or equivalent and plan
to be enrolled in an undergraduate fulltime study load.

The bursary offers a total of $5,000 paid in installments to support undergraduates.

Eligibility to apply would mean:
    o You are an Australian Citizen
    o You come from an outer-regional area
    o You are accessing tertiary study in the year immediately after graduation of year 12
       (or the first available trimester of your chosen program if the course has a mid-year
       start)
    o You are commencing an undergraduate Griffith degree in trimester 1 2021 - must be
       studying face to face, for at least part on the degree
    o You demonstrate financial hardship - Students will need to be below a parental
       income threshold of $250,000

The Motor Trades Association of Queensland (MTA Queensland) have developed Auto Camp, a non-
accredited course for high school students aged between 14-17 years.

Taking place over three consecutive days, Auto Camp will give students hands-on experience in a range
of different automotive skills, from new technology such as Hybrid/Electric Vehicles to the principles and
maintenance of a vehicle.

This course is a great experience for those that have an interest in electronics, engineering, design, or
mechanics as a career pathway or simply working on cars as a hobby.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Traineeship
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Traineeship is an opportunity for First Nations
Queenslanders under 25 to earn and learn with our department.
Trainees receive:
   • paid work at a real job
   • a nationally recognised qualification
   • hands-on learning
   • training
   • mentoring

The traineeship program is delivered by a registered Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander training provider. Students in years 10, 11 and 12 can work part-time around school
hours and count their certificate toward a Queensland Certificate of Education.
Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples between 16 and 25
years can apply online.

Benefits
The traineeship program aims to create work opportunities for First Nations peoples between
16 and 25 years of age.

Apply for an apprenticeship with us for the chance to join a company
that runs one of the largest electricity networks in the western world and
employs thousands of people. We're building the network of the future
to power Queensland’s economy and we're looking for passionate
team members.

What are the requirements for applying?
To apply for an apprenticeship you must have at least one of the following:

   •   completed Year 12 and passed Senior Maths A or General Maths, English and a
       Science subject is highly advantageous, or
   •   completed equivalent pre-vocational studies including a 1Certificate II in
       Electrotechnology, or
   •   have relevant work experience.

Our next apprenticeships intake will be advertised from 2        August 2021 to commence

Apprentices work in depots in locations throughout South East Queensland. Even though you may
start your apprenticeship in one location, you may spend time in other areas during your
apprenticeship to experience a range of task environments.

A range of apprenticeships will be available each year and may include
our Electrician, Communications Technician, Distribution Linesperson and Underground Cable
Jointer Apprentice Distribution Linesperson, Apprentice Mechanical Fitter roles. Not all trade types will
be offered in every apprentice intake.

Apprenticeships set to commence in November 2021. These four-year apprenticeships will see

Short Course Funding with (CSQ) Construction Skills
Queensland
Are you looking to learn new and important skills that will help you to further your career in
construction? Construction Skills Queensland’s (CSQ) Short Courses Program 2020-2021, with its
focus on safety and licencing training, could be for you.
The Short Courses program provides funding to assist with upskilling and cross skilling existing
workers in the building and construction industry. The training focuses on the safety, regulatory and
licensing requirements of the industry and can provide you with a range of competencies that
employers need. And as the program name suggests, the Short Courses are designed to get you
up-skilled fast.

For the 2020-2021 program, which runs from 1st Oct 2020 to 30th Sep 2021, each eligible
participant is able to access up to eight (8) CSQ funded General Construction short courses, and up
to five (5) CSQ funded Civil Construction short courses.
For the purposes of eligibility, participants under this agreement must meet the following criteria:
1. They must be an existing eligible worker in the building and construction industry who has a one
month or more working relationship with their employer OR be an unemployed eligible worker who
has been unemployed for a period of not greater than four (4) years, who would otherwise meet
the requirements of an eligible worker. The working relationship can be built up through full-time,
part-time, or casual employment or engagement as a contract worker.
Evidence requirements – As evidence of employment status, we require a signed letter from an
employer on company letterhead for a working relationship of at least one month. As evidence of
unemployment within the last four (4) years, a copy of a separation certificate or letter of
resignation/termination will suffice.
2. Proof that they are either (a) Australian or New Zealand citizen; or (b) a permanent resident of
Australia; or (c) a refugee and humanitarian visa holder. (Please note this does not include 457 visa
holders)
Evidence requirements – As evidence, we require one of the following: a) Full birth certificate or
birth certificate extract, b) Passport, c) Medicare card (green only); or d) Visa
3. They must also (a) permanently reside in Queensland, or (b) be permanently employed in
Queensland. Evidence requirements – As evidence, we require one of the following: a)
Queensland drivers’ licence, b) telephone account, c) bank statement, d) statement from a real
estate agent; or e) any other formal documentation stating the participants’ full name and current
residential address and/or their employment status.
